Skyward Sword, how'd everyone like it?

When Skyward Sword was reviewed with a 7.5, everyone attacked the review. The argument that a few people used was essentially "wait until you play it before you decide what you think!" I'm just curious to know, now that most of you have played it, what did you end up thinking of it? I am about to start playing it, so no spoilers please! What do you agree/disagree with about the review score? What do you like and dislike about it? I'm just curious, and haven't seen much about the game lately.

I was offended. I essentially kept a Wii six years for nothing.

Terrific game, definitely slow at the start, but at its best is easly one of the best games this year, a solid 9.0 for me and my personal GOTY.

Personal GOTY, very fun, has very intuitive controls.

I'm about in the middle of it right now. It's freaking awesome.

There's easily room for some improvment, but that's true for every game. This game is a solid 9.0-9.5

Technically false, there are only 3 surface areas, there's also the sky with skyloft.

It was average. I'd give it a 7.5/10.

My childhood dream of 1:1 swordfighting (in a proper game) came through, much faster than I thought actually lol.

I though it was really good. I don't really understand the perfect scores that many critics and fans gave the game, but I also can't really see how people have been indifferent about the game as well. It's just a great game plain and simple, and I definitely rank it above Twilight Princess.

Disappointed, I'd give it a 7 or 7.5

I liked it more than TP, not by much though. It has too many problems and the padding really took away from the experience. Nintendo really could have improved in alot of areas with this game. The controls are fine though.

Awesome game .. I still haven't finished it yet but I'm close .. it is not perfect but in my eyes it is AAA material :)

The top 3 games I liked in 2011 are: 1- Portal 2- L.A. Noire 3- Skyward Sword

Im only 3 hours in, so Im probably not allowed to say. But its definitly put a smile on my face, no game absorbs me like Zelda. SS seems to be as good as the other console adventures so far.

Well I actually got a wii and this game for Christmas. I'm maybe 4-5 hours in and, well, it's pretty good. There's a few issues I'm having though. The sword swings aren't really 1 to 1 totally perfect bestest ever, and sometimes if you swing too wide the sword gets stuck behind you and you have to hold it out in front of you to fix it. Also it can be frustrating to alternate between horizontal and vertical swings without telegraphing the attack. Controlling your bird is maddening as well. Your bird is supposed to be the best around and the bastard can't stop getting stuck midair because you try to fly up. For god's sakes when he flaps his wings he should ascend. And it's really really sensitive to rolling so when I try to pitch up and down I frequently end up flying in a downward spiral.

Also Fi is shaping up to be the most worthless and annoying Zelda character since Tingle. Almost everything she says is blatantly obvious or completely pointless, and she always has to give you a percent chance or everything that happens like that somehow makes her more robotic.

People seem split from things I've read, I've no doubt even a bad Nintendo game could still get the score it got but that doesn't mean it didn't earn it... again people seem split. I'll probably get it eventually, form my own opinion later, people complained about Other M and I actually enjoyed it, people just can't think for themselves, X Play gave it a scathing review and everybody regurgitates it like its an opinion they would have come to on their own.lamprey263

People are not "split" randomly. It's that people have different opinions of what "Zelda" should be about.

In other words, linearity is inherently bad for some people. It's not bad linearity, only the fact that it is linear. Scores are pointless because of that.

SS is a quality game at what it does, but you need to do research and learn what exactly it's doing to know whether you will like it, because it's different from previous Zelda games.

I just got to Lanaryu desert and so far I haven't had any problems with the controls. I stillhave no idea what McShea was whining about, the game plays great.

Slow initially, but definately feels different enough from previous Zeldas. And had me completely hooked later on. I would rate it 8.5

Very good game that I gave an 8.5, BUT a dissapointment never the less. I think McShae had some good points, BUT also some terrible ones. IMO neither him nor IGN are right, although in this case I actually would pick GS's review over IGN if I had to, because this game is CERTAINLY not a 10. Again it is a great game though that is definitely worth playing and fully of enjoyment.

For the most part I agree. There are a few things motin felt a tad shoehorned in, and there is the need for recalibrating. That said, McShae was certainly blowing it way out of proportion and in the end I find that the controls are a step forward (although not perfect). It is the shining part of an otherwise dissapointing Zelda IMO.

I only played a demo at a BestBuy but it seemed all right. The controls take some getting used to, though. My little brother couldn't figure them out at all and gave up after about ten minutes. I guess its not really a good game to introduce people to motion controls on, but I've gotten a little play time in on the Wii so I could manage. I'll probably buy it later since I'm playing some other games right now (mainly Saints Row), and I have a few games coming up in the next couple of months I want instead. Still, it's Zelda, it's not like the game is going to disappear from the shelves any time soon.

They made the bosses in TP and even Wind waker look brain dead in comparison

Personal GOTY, very fun, has very intuitive controls.

Awesome game, better than a 7.5, I would say in the 8.5- 9 range. Some flaws that are pretty noticeable but the overall game is just too good to pass up.

I hated it but not as much as I hated Twilight Princess. But I am tired of Nintendo franchises with the exception of Mario Kart, DK, Starfox, and F-Zero. I would also like another Waverace but it is hard telling how bad they would screw it up.

You expect me to play every trashy 7.5 that gets released? There are too many great games out there to waste my time on games lucky to get 7.5. I mean that was probably riding on reputation somewhat.

7.5 is a "good". It's just I'm used to the finer things in life like HD graphics and deep worlds with more than three small areas. 7.5 is "good" for certain games, and best of luck to them. Zelda, angry birds, whatever. I just haven't the time to delve that low.

A rather harsh assessment. This is all very personal for you isn't it? This 7.5 is eating away into your soul.

Don't worry, maybe they will evolve the franchise into an 8 next time.
