I just completed SS the other day, and I must say I have been disappointed for the 3rd time in a row by a zelda game. I was so excited for the game, the reviews and everything Nintendo was showing and talking about were great, but after completing the game I must say that the Zelda formula needs to be drastically shaken up.

Here are my problems with the game:

-THE PADDING. dear god did this ruin the experience for me

-Inconsistent graphics. It looked great in some places but bland in others. I feel the developers could have gotten more out of the Wii for this game.

-The Sky. It was empty, and flying itself wasnt very fun.

-The sidequests. They were just somewhat glorified fetchquests. More could have been done here.

-The harp. Nintendo could have done more with Wiimotion+ for the musical instrument in this game.

-The music. Not up to par with the other games.

-Enemy variety. WHY SO MANY BOKOBLINS. Seriously the variety was horrible in this game, especially compared to other Zeldas. When something else was thrown at you it was rare and usually in a dungeon. Nintendo also reskinned the enemies alot in this game.

-Lanayru province felt like the only good area in the game. The forest and volcano were nothing special.

-The new races were not very good. They all felt too lighthearted in this game. I would have liked the creatures to be designed less "cute".

Thats about all I can think of for now, but they all really hampered the experience for me. I also agree with the score this game got here on GS.

Dear god no. Wind Waker is my favorite in the series. Although I do have to say Ocarina is the best. TP, ST, and now this all left me disappointed. I did somewhat enjoy Phantom Hourglass, so maybe not 3rd time in a row :P

Edit: Don't get me started on TP...I've ripped that game to shreds on here multiple times. I still enjoyed it though. I enjoyed SS too, but the games dont compare the the first 3 3d zelda games to me.

Glad someone agrees. I mean it is a very good game and has some parts that shine, BUT pretty much everything you said I agree with. ALthough I do like the Kikwi and the graphics were pretty good (not the best though).

Lanaryu really was the only place that was pretty good, and even then the environments were not that great and were too linear. Too bad the sky didnt even begin to make up for it.

***SPOILERS***

Here is my take:

First time going out to the sky: dissapointment

First time going to the surface to find its so linear: dissapointment

Getting the harp: dissapointment

Unlocking the gate to the past just to figure out you don't get to do anything in the past except see those two rooms: dissapointment

Trying to fly at night and not being able to: dissapointment

I find it hard to believe SS has inconsistent *graphics*. The texture's are all horribly low resolution throughout anyways, you probably just liked the visual design of some area's more than other's.

Haven't played SS yet, but I should play it sometime. I don't think i'll get to until the Wii U comes out though. :(

As for the other's, MM > TP >>> WW.

I won't even list OOT because it has aged so terribly :P I still love the game though.

It is not perfect by any means but I really do like the game. I can't agree with the music comment, I think it's fantastic. Using the harp is real fun and I think the game looks good throughout. Enemy variety is a real disappointment though.

I actually really liked SS. My only problem with the game was as you said the padding(it didn't get all that bad until the very end) and the fact that most side quests were fetch quests. Other than those 2 problems I thought everything else was excellent.

IF you didn't like WW or TP why would you even bother with SS. Myself I hate motion controls. I don't care for swinging the wiimore around. Take the plants in SS for example. You have to swing in the direction of the plants mouth to kill it. I'd rather just push the a button and be done with it. Motion controls are the worste thing to happen to gaming since online games and shooters. Both are like a bad case of herpes they just dont go away.

I disagree, I think the 3D zelda games get better and better. My favorite is still LttP.

I must say that your critique is valid and I thank you for giving the game a chance before judging it unlike most people on this board.

moving your arm back and forth is fun? There is nothing to using the harp. Playing a different song is no different. It is the lamest instrument in Zelda history and its unfortunate, because I love the harp. I was so excited when I heard there was a harp, and I really missed having an instrument in TP, so when I got the harp in SS I was quite sad to see it was nothing more than a glorified key.

Just finished the 2nd boss ( volcano area). This game needs to kick it up soon or I'll be sorry to say this is the 2nd zelda game I've been dissapointed in(spirit tracks sucked.) I absolutely loved twilight princess( and still do.) It felt to great playing it back in 2006. I feel nothing with SS.

Naveed, would you rather the next Zelda have a grittier visual style and dark atmosphere or bright and colorful visuals with a charming atmosphere?

If the next Zelda has the latter I just don't want it to be cel-shaded, they can still have bright and colorful visuals without being cel-shaded. I'm tired of Zelda using cel-shading :P

Depends what is bothering you. It starts to get better when you get to the third area, especially after it. But it still has all the problems TC listed.

I loved Wind Waker. It does have its faults, but the positives heavily outweigh the negatives for me. I also liked TP, but i was disappointed. I loved the motion controls in SS, they were amazing and added real depth to the combat system for the first time in a Zelda game. The simple button presses have made combat a joke in the past Zeldas.

AVOID ST. I forced myself to complete that game 100%. Why I did that, I do not know. That damn train ruined that game for me. The dungeon design I must say is excellent, but that is the game's only redeeming quality.

Also, I started a new game in TP last year, but I just don't have the time to play through it again. I'm sure I'd enjoy the game more now, possibly even more than SS, but my problems with the game would still stand.

I really enjoyed ST, i think it is a solid handheld game, and i didn't find the train parts as annoying as i thought they would be, if anything i really hated how you needed to play the songs since the timming was ridiculous, but other than that, i really enoyed it.

theuncharted34

I like both, but I hope the next one is more gritty and realistic. People act like that was TP's problem, when in fact it was not its problem at all. TP has two big problems. One, that it is too empty. Two, that some of the items rarely get used in the outside world as there are so many items. If they had taken the time to add more to the world and make the towns more lively, it could possibly be the best Zelda game ever.

SS, while its graphics are nice at times, are my least favorite. TP was just behind its time because it came out so late. WW ages well and is a beautiful game, but I do want more realistic graphics next, especially with the tech the WiiU will have. I want them to amp up the cinematic feel. Now I know most people will probably read this and think I want it to have MGS length cutscenes and no gameplay (MGS has great gameplay BTW lol), but what I mean is that I feel Zelda has always had a naturally cinematic feel to it, but is getting stuck in a rut with SS. TP did it quite well if I remember. It's adding in all the things like foreboding clouds ahead above death mountain. I can just imagine what they could do on the WiiU.

Agreed. It clearly has its issues, although I think SS does have more issues personally. The one thing there is no denying is both TP and SS have far more issues than OoT, MM, and WW. Although I have my preference among those three, I can see why someone would pick any of those as their favorite. They are all so amazing with very little to note wrong about them.

I want this game pretty badly now :(

combat: again no contest

items: All of them are sued consistently compared to TP where they would be used maybe one or two times and thats it

Now SS cerainly isn't flawless but if there was any evidence of the zelda cycle exsisting, this would be it

I disagree. Windwaker was more of a disappointment, along with the DS games. I think the style was far more bland in windwaker...WAY to much water also.

Skyward one of the best since the N64 games.

Better than Wind Waker?! NEVER! My problem with the SS soundtrack is that the good songs are rarely used compared to the not so stellar ones. The boss themes are great, but honestly wouldnt feel out of place in many other games. They just feel generic.

It definitely has good music. And how can anyone say if its worse or better? It is of course an opinion. MY opinion is that it is very good, but feels like music i could hear in other games. I think other tunes like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unwvjNclZ3A

these are more unique and memorable. Again that is just my take. BUT I will say that its a fact that the harp could have been much more. They missed out on the opportunity to have memorable and fun little tunes like:

Myself I hate motion controls. I don't care for swinging the wiimore around. Take the plants in SS for example. You have to swing in the direction of the plants mouth to kill it. I'd rather just push the a button and be done with it. Motion controls are the worste thing to happen to gaming since online games and shooters. Both are like a bad case of herpes they just dont go away.

This 1000 times!!! Motion controls, online & shooters all need to die!!!!!! All at once, buried out in the desert with ET!!!!

Pratically every facet of this game aside from exploration is a step up compared to TP

Characters: Midna was the only memorable one. So essentally her vs. Groose, Zelda, impa/grannie, etc....yeah no contest here.

sidequests; TP barely even had any sidequests. SS wins by default

difficulty: While SS isn't hard, it certainly puts up more of a challenge than TP. Same applies to the bosses

combat: again no contest

items: All of them are sued consistently compared to TP where they would be used maybe one or two times and thats it

Now SS cerainly isn't flawless but if there was any evidence of the zelda cycle exsisting, this would be it

Shinobishyguy
The problem is that every facet of this game is a step up from TP but a ten steps down from every game in the last six years. SS lives in a time bubble where there has been zero movement forward in the genre or gaming as a whole.

Every game? really?

I can tell you off the bat that it's combat and animations are better than skyrim.

But go ahead and keep on talking sh*t about a series you know nothing about

I take back what I said, they're all about the same. All 3 games have some amazing tracks here and there, mixed in with some adequate one's, it's just when I hear something amazing for the first time I forget about everything else :P

None of them can touch MM's haunting score though.
