I was just thinking, since that thread about GTAIV might get downgraded because of the PS3.
That might be true, that the PS3 might not be able to run the same level of graphics as the 360.
But because of the 360's limited DVD9, would it not be right to asume that the game world will be smaler then if it was only for PS3's BD?
I know of the compression stuff, so please don't bring that up, cause the same compression can be used on the PS3.
So will the game suffer because of both platforms?
Lower graphics because of the PS3
Smaler gameworld because of the 360.
Both are just maybes and thoughts, but are both just as likly.

Crackdown also says no.  Say what you want about the game, the fact is that it's a massive city  with great graphics that's got plenty of cars, people and explosions without any frame-rate drops or pop-in.

If they sat down and said "lets fill a blu-ray" as their starting point for designing the game then yeah the 360 would be holding it back. Otherwise its impossible to say.

No need. Oblivion was huge and was less then half the size that a DVD9 holds.

Mass Effect also proves this wrong.

It would hardly be the end of the world. GTA has never been the most immersive of games anyway.

I think a restriction on size would actually be benificial for GTA. It really needs focus, so for GTA, less would certainly be more. Work with the available space instead of giving us 4 million miles of road, and make it more coherent, and focus on improving the combat, and driving.

I remember when some Sony fanboy said Oblivion would have to be on multiple discs and look how that turned out for the Blu-Ray vs. DVD argument.

Until I hear of a phenomenal game on PS3 that was only possible on it due to disc capacity...no. Oblivion seemed to work just fine with over 100 hours of game content. I'm sure GTA will be just fine on 360, thanks.

yes a smaller world. As the last GTA game was so big, and was only around 4 or 5 gig. Not to mention the size of oblivion.... These guys are top quality, and will make lines of code to repeat most of the world. Like most game devs would do with such an open world. It saves time, and disc space. Thus putting more time into missions.

Dont forget it will also have a PC port.

That would be fun. You could play across the entire east cost:D Could realy make for an open ending. and have so you would have to build up your own crime empire takeing over whole citys, having to fight of ramdom attacks from other factions etc.

Oblivion is at least a third of the size that GTA4 will be and Oblivion will also most likely have better graphics yet oblivion only takes up 49% of a disk.

i love how you think they would do a sloppy port job to the 360 if this was the case. If they messed up GTA4, rockstar would have their head on sticks, end of story.

i dont know where you get the idea that the ps3 is graphically inferior to the 360. Because its not. Yeah the 360 might have a gears of war which is the best looking game ever so far. but its already been said that ut3 will look like gears of war except in first person and thats comming to ps3.

For a last gen game, GTA: SA took up a crapload of disc space.  4 to 5 gigs is a lot of space considering the lower end graphics, sound, physics.  720p and 1080i game as large as San Andreas will take up much more space than San Andreas did on PS2.  GTAIV will have much more complicated graphics and physics applied.  Yes, compression methods improve over time...and yes, Oblivion only took up half of DVD-9...But Oblivion on 360 chugged along with a shoddy framerate at times...also there were ultra low res textures in the distance.

I'm worried that GTAIV on 360 will once again have a short draw distance just like the other GTAs..Saints Row even had massive slowdown when using a rocket launcher on several vehicles at once, and that game is probably nowhere near the size or quality that RockStar is trying to accomplish with GTAIV...I'm fully expecting terrible graphics and low draw distance just like every other GTA game on consoles from last gen.

that's true. most of the buildings are just there, you can't go in, and if you can, it's not too intricate. besides, they could always do single player on one disk and multi on the other.

No. They've never said that.

However, there is a rumour saying GTAIV will be 9 times bigger than SA's map! That would be interesting.

GTASA took up 4GB from memory, which is massive for a last gen game so I'm sincerely hoping GTAIV is not limited because of the 360 since it's my most anticipated game of this year. I would have liked them to make it on PS3 first so they can focus in on it and make it the best it can possibly be but I still trust Rockstar enough to know they can deliver another outstanding GTA despite being on 2 systems at the same time.

It depends on how deep they want it to go. Sure, they could make it so many times bigger than San Andreas, but San Andreas felt small to me. The reason? It might have been big in size, but the amount of detail or interaction with the environment seemed minimal to me. If anything I would take about half the size of SA if it felt deeper and more detailed than bigger than SA with empty space.

they will have the same content for part IV on both consoles. if ps3 sells a good amount of consoles, and throws in some $$$ they could convince rockstar to fill a blu-ray. do remember they do have a better relationship buisiness-wise than microsoft.

That explains the senseless post.

j/k

Oblivion worked on 360's dvd so why not gta? And the only downgrading due to PS3 would be due to lazyness (but Rockstar is awsome so im sure they wont do that)

There is a game on the 360 that is virtually really big but with a little bit of compressed files it turns out to be no more than 5gigs(oblivion). I mean, the only reason why a game would need multiple discs is if the devs don't compress the game or they add lots of high-res movie-like cut-scenes. The new GTA would have to be really really really big...I mean if they decide to make every single building have an inside and let the player go inside it...then sure it can be on two discs.
