Smash 4: Lucario returns (meaning: no Mewtwo)

Any Melee fans who wanted to see the clone of Mew return will most likely be disappointed as his replacement in Brawl, the Steel/Fighting Pokemon, Lucario is confirmed for return.

Having played Melee and Brawl, I'm not sure I believe that.

Why would Lucario Returning mean no Mewtwo?

That was the line of thinking people had when Lucas was revealed before Ness.

This time around they are being strict with the roster. And if I remember correctly, they are going to try and avoid clones. That doesn't necessarily Mewtwo won't be in it, but it does mean it's less likely

They said the same thing last time and we still got Capt. Falcon, Ganondorf, Toon Link, Link, Fox, Falco, Mario and Luigi.

Seeing how they have Toon Link and Luigi still there I'm willing to bet there will be more to follow.

Besides Mewtwo and Lucario's Movesets are incredibly different.

Mewtwo - Teleport, Confusion, Psychic blast, and Disable.

Lucario - Aura Sphere, Force Palm, Extreme Speed, Double Team.

Only move there that people can relate to Mewtwo with Lucario is Aura Sphere and Psychic Blast because they both behave the same. But they are two complete different characters.

Fair enough. I will remain in the "Mewtwo will not be in the game" camp. But hopefully he'll be in it. I enjoyed playing as him.

Youre jumping to conclusions. Mewtwo was going to be in brawl but just didnt make the cut. The only thing it and Lucario have in common is an energy ball move. Mewtwo isnt deconfirmed until the game comes out.

I don't think Luigi's a clone. I've used him since the N64, and in Brawl, he controls very differently from Mario. The only thing he still has in common with Mario as far as moves go is the fireball. Everything else is different, even his recovery special (B-up).

Although Mewtwo would be great to have in the game again, if there's any concern for me it's that I hope a new Pokémon will still be introduced into the roster. The original had Pikachu and Jigglypuff, Melee had Pichu and Mewtwo, but Brawl took out those two and introduced Lucario and Pokémon Trainer. With the continued inclusion of Lucario it leaves me wondering if they'll bring a new one in or not.

Not like fighting games ever removed characters before, but still may end up better received than previous installments? Looking at you, Mortal Kombat 9.

There are still a few slots left, so there's still a chance at seeing someone new, adding some missing legacy characters (Falcon and Ness haven't shown up yet).

Luigi is more of a Mario clone than Lucario is to Mewtwo.

Why is Lucario returning? That seems like an odd decision. I figured he'd be the most likely to be cut from the roster.

Indeed, but this is a franchise brawler, even clones are welcome as far as I'm concerned. why should I not still be able to put Fox vs falco or wolf? even if they are similar... its better than fighting 2 other foxes... same with ganon/captain falcon ect.

unless they plan to milk with "skins" or unlock "alternate character skins" e.g change fox to falco and vice versa.

seems lazy to me, I can't see a scenario where its "too time consuming, or too much effort" to do these things...

Sucks that Lucario is coming back, I hated fighting against him in Brawl.

Honestly, given how clonish some of them are, they could drop some of them if they aren't willing to give them their own style of moves.

What I don't get is why they make a big deal about revealing characters that were in the previous games. That shit should be information they give away early. Also would be nice if this time you don't have to do the boring solo player stuff to unlock the people you want to play as. Kind of misses the point of what the game is actually good at.

I would've preferred a new pokemon like Zoroark or something. Lucario is fine though, his mega evolution better be in it.

Mewtwo still has a chance, but I still get this feeling that it got lowered because of this, even if it might have not. I mean... they aren't really the same but the first thing I think of is clone characters. Of course the reason why realistically he may still have a good chance is that Ness and Lucas are similar in that way.

I like Mewtwo a lot more than Lucario tbh as a Pokemon at least. For Smash though, Lucario's moveset was way better than Mewtwo's imo probably because they actually worked with it more. They could probably make Mewtwo pretty unique if they give him a chance. If they don't add him though, I won't be too bummed since Lucario is still fun to play as.

Mewtwo could be in, his Final Smash could be him turning into Mega Mewtwo or something.

Mewtwo could still make it back in simply because SSB is a genwunner.

Why don't they just offer costume changes for characters with cloned movesets?

Mewtwo aint appearing, Because he's going to be the star in the next PlayStation all stars game.

Yeah, but not quite compared to Mewtwo, probably one of the 5 most iconic Pokemon.

Cloned movesets usually have stat changes (Ganondorf is slower and heavier, but backs a bigger punch than Captain Falcon)
