We all know Rare for their work on the SNES and N64. Many claimed that the N64 era was the Golden Age for Rare (with games like Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie, Goldeneye, etc). Then in 2002, Rare became a First-Party developer for Microsoft.

Many would agree that Rare has hit hard times while working for Microsoft's Xbox and Xbox 360.

So I'm going to ask everyone here this: Do you still have hope for Rare.

a. Yes.

b. No.

c. Maybe.

IMO, maybe. Because the Viva Pinata games (on the 360) were awesome, but I kinda lost a bit of hope for them with Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts (still a decent game though).

Discuss.

As long as they don't take something that works magnificiently (Banjo Kazooie), and try to fix it (Nuts & Bolts) then I'm ok.

Nuts & Bolts is the only Banjo game I can't get into. Let's just hope they don't do a spin-off of Conker in the near future :(

I REALLY hope that Rare doesn't "Improve" their other old Franchises too.

About the Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie XBLA releases, those weren't handled by Rare. They were handled by 4J Studios.

and rare had nothing to do with it right? you mean they just handed to code and every thing and said hey bye now *walks out of development studio* no likely 4j was in constant contact with rare with questions and help on where to go and what to do. then you have the reintroduction of stop n swop which likely was heavily handled by rare in some form.

I lost all respect/hope for rare after they made me wait 8 years for a sequel to my favorite game franchise as a child, then mess it all up. Horribly. I mean really. "Guys its been eight years since Banjo Tooie, waddaya say we release a awesome teaser showing off the new graphics. But where going to let the excitment soak in until we tell them we made it a car game'.

That went well.

Ive never been more dissapointed in a game company.

The only 2 Rare games I liked not on the snes was Goldeneye and Kameo. I've always felt they were middling with occasional standouts for the past 15 years.

I don't know. Rare has been really "ugh". I loved their games with Ninty, even Star Fox Adventures (that game would've had me trust them to make a Zelda), and they used to be my favorite second second party developer. Their Xbox days, no.

I've lost pretty much all hope for them. Nuts and Bolts was hardly Banjo, and most of their recent games have either been uninteresting or just flat out lame.

I agree that Nuts & Bolts isn't a Banjo-Kazooie game (especially with Kazooie being pretty useless now).

That's one game though. Compared to their others, pretty much 90% of what they did with Ninty were AAA. Their only games that were lower were Conker's Pocket Tales, and Star Fox Adventures.

Consider how far back that was though, games were simplier and it was easy to create something innovative and special, but the market is croweded and it's harder to do something different.

Also their style of game isn't really liked anymore by gamers.

Maybe not, but also consider that most of the top ranks left when Microsoft bought Rare the top ranks left, so Rare has had some issues with that, they've talked about it when Peter became in-charge of Microsoft Game Studios Europe.

Rare are fine. They're just as good as ever. Maybe MS could give them more freedom, but that's nto there fault. They're still talented devs with or without the Stampers.

Kameo was great. Viva pinata is one of my favorite games this gen.

Yep lost hope of them ever creating any quality games ever again... Their just a tool for microsoft now, they'll probably have them working on some other gimicky crap.. Regardless.. They've lost their talent as game developers. I don't care what they do now. The old RARE is dead.

I think Rare needs to hire more talented people, look at Guerrilla Games, KZ1 flopped and KZ2 lived up to the hype because of more people, it's pretty obvious. It's sad that their best game this gen is a updated port of Perfect Dark.

i know they fired people last year. Hired some this year And Peter Molyneux suddenly took interest in RARE. I wonder what we'll see out of RARE
