How is it
A breaktrough in console MMO design or just a gimped down game destined to fail?

PC version:
-Interface is consolized and makes you do simple things the hard way. Needed a PC Interface, I guess $50mil only buys you so much.
-No crafting whatsoever
-Graphics are quite nice
-The large budget shows. Lot's of story, voice acting, cut-scenes etc.
-Runs well, very few bugs. Butter smooth for an MMO launch
-Playing from Aus, the lag in almost non-existent. I'm not sure what wacky science Sony were using for their netcode, but it's brilliant. It makes an action game MMO more than playable in PvP, which was most unexpected.
-Character creation is so so, CoH and Champions Online's character creation system's are significantly more advanced. Pretty disappointing.
-Grouping is more awkward than it should be, and I still haven't figured out how to formally share quests.
-City environment's are very sizable. Gotham and Metropolis are probably twice the size of CO's Millenium City. Both look good.
-Quests are usual MMO fare, though there is a little more meat behind them with the voice acting. Mark Hamill is awesome.
-Instances are a lot of fun and are pretty flashy with you getting to battle various DC characters which leads to more character specific cut-scenes.
-It's the first MMO I've played that's succeeded in fusing an action game into MMO combat. Other games have tried, or implemented it partly (CO, even Age of Conan), but it genuinely works here. The combat is a breath of fresh air for MMO's in my opinion.
-Game is a lot of fun.
Too early to put any kind of rating on it, but I'm enjoying it and see myself continuing to sub as long as the content is there to support the game.
After having played both CoH/CoV and Champions Online, I have to say that DCUO is the best of this lot. It plays very much like the other mentioned super hero games. The character creation is deep enough that I cant imagine ever seeing an exact look -a- like. I also love the fact that you have a real DC super hero/Villain as your mentor/role model. That means the good guys get the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc.. and the Villains get The Joker, Lex Luthor, etc..The questing is usual fare. Go here, kill those and come see me. The loot drops are nice and are visible when you change them out. I haven't tried any instances or anything yet, so I cant speak to those experiences. keep in mind if you are looking for a WoW-esque experience that involves crafting and such, then this game is not for you. In all honesty, if you played and enjoyed either CoH or Champions online, then this game will please you.
was in the beta and loved it, although the beta kept freezing on me and was glitchy but i would pay monthly for it

I just pulled the trigger on this game for PS3. Normally I would have bought it on PC but I keep hearing how it was consolized so I bit the bullet. Ive tried city of heroes and I hated it...I couldnt play for more than an hour. Everything about it just bothered me...the graphics are very OLD looking, even WoW still holds up to this day. The camera is all wakcy from the getgo unless you go into options and adjust it...very werid. And I had quest bugs on the first few missions...so all in all I had a meh experience. Hopefully this game sets itself apart from COH/COV. I figure if I dont like it, I get the free month, and most normal singleplayer games dont last me longer than a few weeks anyway.
