I was just at the store and noticed a (working! omgz!!) PS3 demo unit. Some kids were playing a basketball game on it and boy did it look sharp! After seeing that, how can sheep keep saying that graphics don't matter? Don't they realize that a game can be both fun and look nice to boot!?

It seems that the only games that look decent on the Wii are the ones that have a bright and vibrant color scheme. Other games that want to take a more realistic tone tend to look pretty crummy. To illustrate my point assume that a typical 360/PS3 game would look like this

A Wii version of the same game, in comparison, would look something like this (with less polys of course)

This is assuming that you're playing on a nice HDTV, so those of you who play on SDTVs don't bother.

How can the sheep stand this?! If there's such thing as a 'blind' fanboy, it may as well be sheep because they would have to be blind to choose a blurry mess like that over the sharp HD graphics of the other 2 consoles.

True. The Wii version would probably have less polygons, smaller maps, dumbed down physics, and inferior AI because of its woefully underpowered (relatively speaking) processor and graphics chips.

But with an intuitive control scheme,it could be a lot of fun.

EDIT: It's not like the AI,physics, and graphics will be dumbed down to N64-like capabilities.

Don't they realize that a game can be both fun and look nice to boot!? PikaPichu

It's just that many games have been hyped mainly because of their graphics. You know, because the graphics are the only thing we see of pictures, but then the game ends up like Motorstorm, which is a good game, has great graphics, but it could just be much more.

So now methinks that the devs focused too much on the graphics, when they should have added more depth to the game. I don't think Motorstorm would be any better if it had even better graphics.

Also, I don't think Excite Truck would suddenly be critically acclaimed, had it the graphics of Mario Galaxy.

If the control scheme enhances the experience,it doesn't matter what the graphics look like as long as they aren't incredibly ugly and unbearable.

Why? There's nothing wrong with picking a game with tried-and-true controls and sharper visuals over a version that offers a different means of control and poorer visuals. :)

though graphics do have calue(eye candy) they don't superseed gameplay.

imagine you have the greatest looking game in the world but all you can do in the game is open and close a door.

I am not saying that a game can't have fun gameplay and be fun as well i am just saying that i think people think graphics are much more important than gameplay which (As stated above) is not true.

Interesting point. The PS2 has tons of 3rd party support and the DS has quirky games like Pokemon. The Wii seems to be a bit lacking in 3rd party support and its Pokemon games typically suck and are nowhere near as deep as the handheld versions. The PS1 beat out the N64, the PS2 beat out the GC and I have a good feeling that the PS3/360 will (EVENTUALLY) beat out the Wii in sales.

I haven't played either so I'm not sure. I don't think 3D Sonic games are as good as the 2D ones. My logic would pick the PS3/360 versions of Call of Duty and Far Cry over the Wii versions of those games. (assume those games exist on all said platforms)

Wii 3rd party support is growing, and DS didn't even have Pokemon until recently, it was games like Nintendogs and Brain training that rocketed it ahead, so to say that Wii won't have similar successes as DS and PS2 is premature, especially since PS1 and 2 started with leads, and PS3 is far behind

If gears of war was made on the N64 it would be a 2/10 game. That is because the main draw of the game is the physics, textures, AI and the way that intensifies the gameplay. Because of this Wii games will never deliver the same experience as PS3 and X360 games. That doesn't mean wii games can't be as good, but if they are rated as highly as PS3/360 titles it will be for very different reasons.

When you consider of the hardware they are running on, no they are not.

The Wii is not capable of doing things like Gears, so obviously, comparing Wii game graphics to those of Gears is pointless.

In terms of the hardware, the Wii will not really be lacking in the visual department.

There's no real interactivity in them though. Just because Nintendo introduced the Wiimote, doesn't automatically make older control schemes a thing of the past. I'm just saying that games can still be fun with classic controllers AND have nice visuals too. If games could look as awesome as the movie 300, and be as fun to play as God of War then I'd be in heaven!

i agree that graphics do matter they matter in terms of sales, and enjoyment to some extend i don't think graphics need to be sacrificed to improve gameplay the fact that all game reviews take graphics into account proves that one measure of how good a game is, is its graphics

[QUOTE="gnutux"]Wait ... a Wii version of GRAW2 ... when did they announce that? Graphics matter, always, it's just less important than gameplay but will always be important all the time. gnutux

I was just using that pic as an example. As far as I know, GRAW hasn't been announced for the Wii.

Both graphics and gameplay matter. If given the choice between playing WoW on a cheap, low-end, Dell vs a high-end Dell XPS/Alienware, I'd choose playing WoW on the high end rig.
