Pretty much. I don't even know why those two games get compared. It's ridiculous.

Not sure about Halo, but Killzone 3 has a lot of languages including audio then it has 3D too. No idea why 3D takes extra space though. They must use some lame tricks to get the 3D effect to work on console's old hardware.

Custom games is all I care about, the rest is fluff in my book ... Fire Fight and Online co op was so extremely laggy for me I didn't even bother with those modes in Reach. As for the 41GBs I'm sure you can find your answer with a simple google search, we're not devs.

Most of the stuff you list has abolutely nothing to do with the amount of GB on disc. KZ2 even had some of those features (custom games, server browser), but for whatever reason they wanted to streamline the multi-player for KZ3. However the one thing that did surprise me about KZ3 is that it's all 720P, even the cutscenes. Now obviously the gameplay itself is going to be native 720P as that's the practical limit for current gen console games, but you would think with 41GB on disc that all the cut scenes would be fully uncompressed and natively displayed 1080P video. Maybe they're stored on disc as such, but they only output at 720P. Of course it all looks great even at 720P, but it is a bit odd.

I remember reading something about The Force Unleashed that like, they had copies of every asset, so that it would load faster or something. I believe that takes up a lot.

I don't know. They almost look too good to be real time. I'm thinking alot of them must be pre-rendered.

Of course alot of this stuff might actually be stored on the disc in 1080P resolution anyway, but when it outputs it is downgraded. There's probably also duplication of data. I'm sure I read somewhere that there was duplication of data on disc for the game engine, so that it can "stream" data for more efficient loading rather than require install.

Implying anything in red is even important.... and I also have a strong feeling they will be patching in Custom Games and Online Co-Op.

*Just a sidenote: Plenty of good FPS games do not feature vehicular combat, and they are great. Just because it works for Halo doesn't mean everybody needs it. Also, I could care less about a map editor. I'm not about to spend hours in development of anything, and it would've merely delayed the game.

Additionally I will say that you should've put "Vechicular Combat" on your list not a lack of.

Probably native at 720p for technical reasons. Not everyone's televisions can display 1080p, so I'm assuming that that is part of it.

Well I enjoyed everything that's red... If it adds to the game & is fun, think it's pretty important in a comparison. Just because you don't care about Forge Modes/Map Editors & like being restricted to what GG gives you doesn't mean everyone doesn't like the option.

Reach has more modes, not more content. KZ3 has amazing physics in both gunplay and gameplay and tons of audio and visual effects. The online has dedicated servers, which trumps p2p always, and is more valuable than any modes a dev could add. A single map on KZ3 has more detail than a level in Halo.

What is more important to people will vary, but saying a game has more content than another isn't easily justified when they are very different.

I can't even imagine a map editor for KZ3, the maps are so detailed I imagine that any map editor would produce some fugly concept designs in comparison.

3D doesnt require more disk space, some extra code that sets up 2 scene cameras instead of one. Because disk space is so abundant, they take advantage of it by repeating code, speeds things up a touch.

OP: Really, you were really dissappointed with Killzone 3?? Seriously?

No it doesnt, its extra code, a few kbytes at best, doesnt require anything additional beyond that. No extra textures, assets, sound.

Thats because the Blu-Ray discs are packed with loads of uncompressed junk to increase the filesize. The reason for this? Maybe to help prevent piracy (40GB download could be a bit off putting for some people) or maybe its so the PS3 fanboy can go OMG KZ3 is 41GB!!!!!

I don't know what you are arguing. Yes, it's extra code. No, it's not a few KBs. There's nothing to argue here. The 3d demo size vs the 2d demo size conclusively shows that whatever you think about the situation is wrong.

I'm telling you, adding an extra camera to a scene is a few extra kbytes, its a fact not what I 'think'. Beats me what else they put in there.

im not 100% on this but i think the following is eating up space. 1) the game uses 720P FMV in places. that eats up a bit. 2) every bit of FMV has a 2D and a 3D version. when it comes to videos/movies i think 3D does require more space. it doesnt for in game graphics though. 3) is the audio uncompressed? if it is then that is going to eat up space. uncompressed audio is big. if the disc has several languages on it then audio will take up even more space 4) dummy/redundant data to optimise loading times. as i understand it KZ3 either has no install or a tiny one.

It's not like they're charging you per GB, who cares how big each game was. I enjoyed Killzone 3 way more than Reach so good job GG.

Also why would you want vehicular combat?.

Forget Reach, Killzone 2 had more features: -custom soundtracks -32 players -custom gametypes -online bot mode -search for games (matchmaking sucks) Just give me those back and I'll be fine.

Of course it all looks great even at 720P, but it is a bit odd.2Chalupas

Not odd at all really. Gone are the days of mediocre graphics jarringly spliced with cutting-edge CGI cutscenes. Developers are trying to create a more homogenous experience.

Well KZ2 is still a better FPS than any Halo this gen. Reach is boring me to tears, haven't got KZ3 yet.tomarlyn
i strongly disagree. the halo games this gen have tons of quality content, while KZ2 only has dead MP and horrible controls. from what ive played of KZ3, it continues this trend.

Not sure about Halo, but Killzone 3 has a lot of languages including audio then it has 3D too. No idea why 3D takes extra space though. They must use some lame tricks to get the 3D effect to work on console's old hardware.

3D takes more space since they (GG) have to cut the res in half and render the same scene twice at that resolution and THEN store both versions on the disc

I was extremely disaponted GG.

killzone 3 lacks

Forge Mode/Map Editor
Custom Game Types
Custom Games
Horde Mode/Terrorist Hunt/ Fire Fight
4 Player Co-Op
Online Co-Op
Lack of focus on vehicular combat
Theater

and please do not say graphics because crysis on pc is only a 6gb game.

So where is this 41gbs going to? im confused

But then again Reach looks like a Wii game in HD.
