So I bought halo wars expecting a 6.5-7.5 game, plus the amazing mythic map pack. I was incredibly surprised! Halo wars is actually really good.

I feel it is a good 8.5-9.0 game. Halo wars shines in Multiplayer like halo 3, it is a simple RTS but it is hard to master. The graphics are superb, and overall it is a great game. I feel the demo isn't an adquate representation of Halo wars. You must play multiplayer to fully feel it's greatness. I recommend at least renting it.

PS: I use the arbiter, any tips?

However, Halo wars isn't complicated enough to warrant a buy from the hardcore group, I'm pretty much new to RTS's.

Halo will always have presentation going for it.Halo Warshas good balance, it's fun, it's a good game...9.0? No. Real Time Strategy, not really. But then again most RTS's are not actually strategic. E:TW, or hell any of the TW games aren't very strategic, since 95% of PC games are typically following the idea of amassing large forces and crushing your opponent, I.E. not very strategic. Dawn of War suffers from this. Starcraft suffers, as with Warcraft. Halo Wars, because of it's limitations strangely enough, forces you to be strategic. With that said, it's just an above average game.

Story blows. 7.5 here.

lol exactly it sounds quite obvious that halo wars is one of the first rts's you've ever really played and got into, and if you think its that great, then it would be a crime for you not to look into and explore the rts market on the PC, instead of being a little snob about it

True but for an RTS i'm expecting more. Maybe it's just because RTS have higher standards than other genres i guess.

You can perform many tactics in SC while in Halo Wars you can't. Such as Hydralisk stacking, mutaballs, burrow jumping

I played the demo and at a friend's house, and I gotta' say Halo Wars is amazing (I want it SOOOO bad but I'm broke), the focus and combat is really enjoyable. Nobody should listen to my insight though, the only other stategy games I play are Civilization ones (and thats not even real-time!).

It don't take depth for someone to be better them someone else at a game. Is Halo a deep game? No. Yet it's used alot fo the time for highly competitive matches. Same with StarCraft. Is football a "deep" sport? No, it's simple, anyone can play it.

In Starcraft, yes it does. Strategy is everything; one slip-up, and you're gone. The smarter person is the victor ;)

Same can be said about most games. Using football again, why slip and you can concede a goal, leading to a loss. Also, since Football is a national sport also, i guess it's SUPER deep.

I didn't say football is super deep, nor did I say SC's depth is because it is a sport, nor did I even say SC's depth is proven because it is a sport in some far-off tiny little country.

Starcraft is deep because the sheer number and variety of strategical options available to you at any given second is ridiculous, short and simple. No matter what your opponent does, you can counter, but only if you've made the right decisions -- if you're smart.

Gamestop gave it a 6.5 because they were expecting it to be a PC RTS.

PC RTS and 360 RTS are completely differant, cause pc has a mouse and keyboard while 360 had a more complex controller.

However, Hermits should just stick to their PC and play Starcraft.

I was reading the post thinking that we finally have a reasonable argument to discuss, until I got to this line and lost all motives to debate. You guys carry on.

I enjoy this game, although I haven't played many RTS's I don't see it being that simplistic. If anything that's something to achieve for console RTS's right? Considering you don't have a whole bunch of buttons to work with like on a keyboard.

However, Hermits should just stick to their PC and play Starcraft.

Why don't you just go all out and give it AAAA GOTY..? Just face it - compared to other strategy games Halo Wars is very average. Do yourself a favor and go play the new TW.

So if I put a blanket over my PC and pretend I've never played a RTS on it, I might like it. Otherwise don't bother?

*sigh*

I didn't really like Sins - the graphics..... (yes I am shallow...) put me off : ( Regardless OP is trying to say that Halo Wars is a borderline AAA strategy game and it just isn't.

True. But HW should be around the 7.5 - 8.0 range though.

If you are expecting Halo Wars to try and compete with those RTSs, then that might be the best choice for you. If you go into Halo Wars expecting to have fun and introduce yourself to a simpler type of RTS, that won't be necessary.

Now this I agree with.
