After having kicked around the idea for a while, I decided on getting one. I figured $250 plus the VC and a steady release of good Wii games will keep me entertained until the PS3 is damn near free (lol). Well, I went to Wal-Mart. They're sold out. I then went to Circuit City. They're sold out. I went to Target. They're sold out. I went to FYE. They're sold out. I went to EBgames. They're sold out. I went to Sam's Club. They're sold out. I talked with employees at EB and CC and they both said that they sell out of Wiis within hours of getting them.
This is insane. It's 4 going on 5 months since release and it's still selling out. I didn't really think the demand was THAT high until I saw so for myself. PS3s were readily available and sitting bored in each of the stores. From the other customers I overheard, some people were talking about 360 games while other people were talking about the Wii and it's games. Then there were the usual people looking over PS2 games. There was no talk at all of the PS3.
Just my observations today.

I've been trying to get one for my brother in law since xmas with no luck, funny thing though is he lives near St.Louis and says he sees them in stores all around him, I should just give him the cash so he can buy it for himself.

I havn't owned a Nintendo console since the awesome N64, but the Wii reminds me of it in alot of ways. The VC is a cool addition too.

thats why im glad i camped out. i had mad fun just chillin and playing football in the middle of targets parking lot at 3 in the morning. plus i got the wii.

i've been looking since november....thing is impossible to find. I don't even bother to call anymore. I'm just gonna wait it out. When May comes, then I'll begin looking hard again. No way will I camp out or wake up at 6:00 AM just to get a system.

i've been looking since november....thing is impossible to find. I don't even bother to call anymore. I'm just gonna wait it out. When May comes, then I'll begin looking hard again. No way will I camp out or wake up at 6:00 AM just to get a system.redban2

If it's still selling out in May, that would be REALLY freaky. I've never heard of a console selling out all the way through March. If this continues, which seems to be the case, we may not start seeing extra Wiis on shelves until July.

They're apparently trying. Nintendo doesn't want to sacrifice hardware quality (which is one thing i like about them) but have still made and sold 6 million units. Not too bad.

I've heard that people have a better chance queuing on a Sunday in the 4am hours or something. There are also some amazing GC games which would help you through the drought (which are getting cheaper btw).

Nintendo is producing about 50,000 Wiis everyday, yes I said everyDAY. How about you cut them some slack?

My expectations arn't too terribly high for the Wii. The VC is about 40% of my reason for getting one. However, after a long day at work the Wii itself could be fun. I'm kinda interested in just seeing what it's like over a long period of time. The 360 seems to be lacking something. I don't know what it is. Perhaps it's because I've played PC games similar to what's currently on it that turns me off a little. I still think the 360 is a good machine.

then you should have no hesitation to get it.. it can play GC games and there are a lot of highquality exclusive GC games

from Nintendo themselves

they said 1 million in one month until april (production)

they will increase production in april.. this means 50 000 a day (20 workdays)

That's your opinion. Over the past decade I've played Diablo 2, Doom 3, FEAR, Oblivion, Morrowind, all of the UTs, Quake 4, WOW, on and on and on (Xbox and PC games share many traits). While still fun, it's just not quite as entertaining as it used to be. I guess I'm looking for a change of pace.

Update: Today I went to another, larger city and searched 10 different places. Everywhere was sold out. They also confirmed what was said in my own town, that when they do get shipments of Wiis, they're sold out within hours.
I guess I'm just going to have to wait. I'm not desperate for a Wii, but the demand for it is really interesting.
