Yup, Im always on Gamespot preaching to people to not bash a game if they havent played it and yet I always bashed Fallout3 without giving it a chance. Anyways, I decided to go out today and buy the game to see for myself (My brother has the X360 version but I got the PC version anyways...If you are gonna play a game, might as well play it right :) ). So anyways, now that I have finally played the game I can say this, it is definitely better than Oblivion. Yes, It does have an "Oblivion with guns" feel to it, but the combat is far more exciting than in Oblivion. This is partially due to the more modernized weapons and the inclusion of the VATS system. Action Points are semi-usless in this game (because you can still attack even if u run out of action points...u just cant use VATS) but I think the VATS system does for sum great kills.

Anyways, before you all tell me "uhh..blog it noob!" I just wanted to admit ownage. No, I dont think this game should have been Fallout 3. I would rather have had the classical more tactical Fallout gameplay with great 3D graphics, but at the same time, this game isnt bad at all. Its an enjoyable game in its own right, I just wish it didnt have to go and take the Fallout name while at it. Anyways, this is by far Bethesda's best game in my opinion. The fighting system seems far better than in the Elder Scroll games, and the inclusion of VATS, while it feels pretty superficial, is still a nice touch.

I would personally give this game a solid 8.

*accepts ownage*

You're supposed to combine VATS with regular FPS'ing, that's the whole point.

Yeah. Hunting Rifle + VATS + Head shot = Win. Try using a hunting rifle without VATS, it's like trying to catch a mouses tail with a pair of toe nail clippers.

yeah I know, its just that I miss the old tactical gameplay where i used to think "Ok, should i try to attack that guy. I mean just walking to him take 5AP...will I have enough to attack or should I wait till my next turn?" With this new system it feels there isnt much of the "tactical" feel. Its more "ok im just gonna use VATS and if that doesnt kill him, I can just blast him to death." Its a good system, no doubt about it, just saying i prefer the old one :P

I say it's a worthy compromise. I think I would get annoyed if it wen't into a turn based battle system everytime I try to kill something, it would slow down the action, and the game is pretty long as it is. It's probably quite difficult to simulate that style of turn based combat for game designed in 3D and from a FP perspective.

It had a very strong opening with the stages of life and stuff, but it seems to be lacking past that point, its definatly better then oblivion, and I can't just literally kill everything in 1 hit before they see me, most enemies have guns, unlike oblivion where few had range, and I could either snipe them with a bow or sneak up on them always, I still sneak around in Fallout 3, but its definatly harder to just get 1 hit kills without ever being seen, I do run out of health potions way too much though, damn those armored super mutants with their mini-guns.

Here's a tip. If you wan't to be stealthy, don't engage Super Muties up front. Pull back and plant mines as you go. Works almost every time. Otherwise it can take forever to kill them, and they hurt like hell.

I actually did that once, lol, there was a group of about 5, but it was while they saw me, I tossed them then ran, then they all died a long the way.. now I ran out. :P
