So I finally played a Halo game...

So I finally played Halo 3 , my first playtime in a Halo game ever , I was kinda excited since all the 9.5 reviews and all the hype around it , all the sales , etc.

I played a bunch of multiplayer matches and I must say... this is the most overrated game ever .. seriously , the game is a lot of fun but , I think N64 Perfect dark is far superior than this... I was dissapointed with the guns in the game .. they were not very innovative (anyone remember the Slayer gun in PD ? now THAT´s innovative)

Now I know what a massive ad campaign can do...

It's not that bad... Especially seeing how you've never played Halo 1, I don't see why you wouldn't like Halo!

you have to play it from halo 1 and read the books to appreciate the franchise. not that many people would get interested in doing that so halo 3 if only for the real halo fans who are realy like to get into it. If you dont want to do that, then this game is not for you.ICollegeStudent

I've read all 5 books, the graphic novel and am collecting uprising as it slowly comes out, and this game still fell unprecedentedly short. it had the worst twist of the games; the twist was also poorly executed.

BTW, IDC what people say about Halo 3. Call it overrated if you want, it's not gonna stop me and the millions of others from enjoying it for the next three years.TMontana1004

Am I the only one who found that bolded statement absurd? You don't play CoD, or any CoD for innovativ, new guns, you play for the realism. I don't see too many soldiers in Iraq carrying around needlers or gravity guns.

Nah. To really appreciate and respect the series, you had to be around during the dark ages (you know, the days when the cows ruled sW).

thanks for making a thread that has been done hundreds of times over...

I always found the Halo franchise to be unique in it's gameplay. Sheild+health/only 2 guns at a time/epuipment/making melee and nades very important to gameplay. I do not play that many FPS games but if anyone would like to point out other games that did this first go for it.ModernTimes

That's why people think Halo is generic, it stuck to the formula of the first game, which is a formula many games have tried to copy.

No. You can still easily jump into Halo 3's MP without playing the first ones,and enjoy it. But it's true,Halo is incredibly overrated. And reading the books? Come on,that's no excuse for the games to be bad.

No game should require you to read books to enjoy it.

Why would you start with Halo:CE now? It's not fun anymore. Paying money for that game in 2008 is basically just burning money.

Older games can be fun now,but only the ones that still have engaging stories. At least that's the way I find it. Half-Life 1 for example. The gameplay is awful and dated now,but the plot is still very engrossing even by todays standards. Same with System Shock 2.

I liked Halo:CE's story more than Halo 2 and 3:|

Besides, you can pick it up cheap, and it's got some real challenging parts and is worth the money to get to know the story more.

Why only 3 years? if the game is so good, why don't you guy play it for the next 10 years ? Like people are doing with game like Counter Strike, Soldier of Fortune 2, Ultima Online, Everquest, even Meridian 59 lol.

Totally agree, TC. Between Halo CE (PC) and Halo 3 I have come to appreciate Halo for what it is, a generic FPS that was well executed. However, it is not the be-all-end-all it tends to get hyped up as and I would pick Perfect Dark (still my favorite FPS ever) over any Halo game any day. Halo is the definition of overrated. That doesn't mean it's bad, just that people make it out to be much better than it is.Hoffgod

That's what many people don't understand when the game is called generic. Generic doesn't mean bad, generic means tried and true.
