Hate Argument #1 - The A.I
For some reason, everyone on here was ripping on Crysis's A.I because they saw a 30 second tech demo on gametrailers.com. I tried to explain to the people (there was like a 10 page thread on it) that it was simply to show the difference between DX9 and DX10. But no -- they were positive that in the final game, the enemies would stand still as trees and hesitate to fire.
Well the final game still isn't out, but the demo is. If anyone has played the demo they would know that it has 4 different difficulties -- and personally i found Normal to provide a satsifying challange.
Quote from GS's impressions, "The AI is challenging because it doesn't simply just stand and shoot at you or run straight at you. Enemies move, use cover, throw grenades, and make your life pretty difficult."
So, to the 50 people in that thread - you've been owned.
Hate Argument #2 - Crysis is all graphics
I used to think this as well back in the day, but having played the demo and watched all of the amazing footage, I'd go far as to say that Crysis's gameplay is its main selling point.
There is simply so much value in this demo alone. There are countless ways to approach combat situations. Should I cloak and take out guards one at a time? Super speed through the camp causing mayhem? Or maybe punch down buildings and throw stoves at Koreans? Or maybe I'll mix it up a little...
I wasn't expecting to have so much fun with the demo. My graphics settings were on medium and the game looked great -- but dissapointing compared to the videos. But the explosions were pretty sweet =p.
I can only imagine how fun it will be using all of the nano-suit abilities on multiplayer...
Hate Argument #3 - Just a Farcry clone
The only thing this game has in common with FarCry is that it takes place on a tropical island. And if you played the demo, you would know that the entire setting is going to change drastically later in the game.
Jumping out of the plane of was badass, and the story reminded me a lot of the first Dino Crisis (which is a good thing). The cinematic quality of the cutscenes are pretty sweet, and the ending part of the demo made me jump.
Hate Argument #4 - Too bad no one can run it
My computers aren't amazing. They are high-end, but nothing special. I tried to run it on max settings (or the demo's max settings at least), and I didn't get too far with all of the slowdown. So I went with medium and it ran fine, and I still had a lot of fun with it. If you are complaining about not being able to run it on max -- man up and play on lower settings, it's still a great looking game.
But if you can run the game on high settings, that definatly is a nice plus -- afterall, it's the best looking game ever made when played on the proper machine.
I think Crysis will score 8.5.-- Gamespot has a history of undercutting games because of steep system requirements, and PC FPSs are scored on a higher-standard.
