I totally forgot about the other thread and now its closed : (, but yea. I think HD monitors are out but its all about the 65+ inch HDTV's.

I guess PC's did do HD 10 years ago, but it was hard to tell on the crappy monitors at the time. Oh well, now PC'rs have to hook up to HDTV's, which belong to the consoles, in order to compete now.

Consoles made gaming on HDTVs popular. LCD TVs helped bridge the gap between computer monitors and tv's. Its not impossible for me to play games on a small computer monitor. 46" DLP is the way to go!

A lot of people use their xbox 360 with their monitor because it is a lot cheaper then spending 1k+ on a HD tv.

Dude, I never thought youd come back.... The main reason why it wasnt hyped earlier is because TV's back then mainly broadcast and displayed interlaced images.. PC monitors have been doing Progressive ever since. Only when TV's started doing Progressive images at higher resolutions, did the term "HDTV" come into use. In reality PC's have been doing high resolution for years. High Resolution = HD.

Monitors give MUCH higher resolutions than HDTVs do. My 21" and 19" Samsungs do 2036* by 1536* res. I play my 360 on them sometimes but it can't take advantage of those high resolutions anyway.

Chance to catch up? How do you catch up when you've been ahead for a decade? And the fact monitors are smaller is nullified by the fact you sit a lot closer to them.

OK. You're obviously not understanding any of this, asshat. My current monitor is a 19' LCD. Most HDTVs are LCD. This monitor displays at 1280 x 1024 in progressive scan. HD. My $200 (AUD) monitor can output the same resolution as a $2500 (AUD) HDTV. No lose of quality, it's the same type of screen. If anything, high resolutions run better on a PC monitor because you haven't got the large pixel sizes you find on a TV.

Technically consoles did make HD gaming popular, by default really. HD is called "HD" because it's a huge leap up from "SD" or standard definition. PC monitors and games have "gradually" escalated in res so the difference wasn't nearly as drastic and sudden as the TV going from SD to HD. Sure PC monitors have "technically" been doing the equivalent of "HD" resolutions for a while now but were they ever called HD? No, they were merely called "high res." Yes I know it's the same thing but the term is directly linked to the popularity. I guess the TC does have a point with the topic title even though TC is naive about the subject.

Actually, PS3 can run in 1920x1080, and that's widescreen 16:9.

they were never called HD because they have always been HD, there is no possible alternative, and no such thing as a non-HD monitor. HD is a relative term.

Monitors have better picture quality bud. They've had HD resolutions for 10 years. They can have MUCH higher resolutions than any HDTV. Wow, you've gotta be kidding me........

Even the crappy 17" Dell LCDs that they have here at my work have a native resolution of 1280 x 1024.
