So I started playing Mass Effect on PS3 today.....

.....and to be honest, I couldn't be more bored.

I love the lore, but the gameplay and mechanics couldn't be worse. I am worried...because I got the Trilogy Pack. Is ME2 any better in terms of gameplay and mechanics? What about ME3?

Also....is a tiny bit of texture pop-in normal in any of the Mass Effect games? Specifically, the first one.....

The first ME game has massive pop-in on all 3 platforms. The later games turned into a shooter with RPG elements rather than an RPG with shooter elements.

Yes. Both ME2 and ME3 are better mechanically.

I got a PS3 because my 360 had been suffering from major graphical pop-in issues after years of use. (sorry if that sounds stuck-up, I am just super OCD when it comes to pop-in). The PS3 is pre-owned, so I was really really concerned that it had the same issues...

Mass Effect 2 sub substantially improved the mechanics. All 3 games are great though. You may never get the same wow factor you might have if you started playing them when they came out like 7 years ago.

The gameplay in 2 is very different from 1. There is no inventory to manage and no equipment to customize. You collect ammo from enemies and from the level around you, instead of waiting for your gun to cool down.

You also get into the meat of the game much more quickly. The game doesn't bother with elevators or airlocks in between the places you want to get to. Action and roleplaying are better paced early on compared to the first game.

I only played 3 once, but I can tell you it's similar to 2, like most second sequels, it settles into a certain groove without many huge changes. But the weapon system in 3 is definitely an improvement. You'll be able to use any type of gun with any class, creating a tradeoff with how fast you can use your powers.

I think 1 has best world and environment but 2 more streamline gameplay. Sadly they remove RPG element but controlling is better.

The gameplay is pretty average at best across the first 2 games. You need to play it for the story and the story alone.

Everybody loves ME for the story and RPG.

Stick to the main quest in Mass Effect, don't worry about the side missions, they're a distraction at best. The main game is fairly short and the plot was quite good, in my opinion.

Also the texture pop-in on the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect was hilariously bad. You're not missing out there. :)

Nothing is more mediocre than the Mass Effect series. Good thing Microsoft let this garbage go to EA.

Mass Effect has a great lore and universe, it's just too bad Bioware couldn't execute the game correctly.
