[QUOTE="Dynafrom"][QUOTE="macmutt"] I went to school for computers, i know how to use them, build them , upgrade and repair them, both Mac and PC's, don't believe me the IRQ setting for a sound card is 7, i have configured endless amounts of new hardware in the bios, upgraded sdram, ddrram, installed various cards in parallel ports, master enslaving 2 hard drives to work as one, made windows boot disks to install Windows 98 and XP, manually adjusted a pentium processor to run at max mhz when they were in mhz, doing complete reformats and reinstalling an OS. So guess what i know what i'm talking about and i also know that the countless hours i've spent working on virus ridden, frozen PC's have turned me off of them forever. What a surprise though because once i did switch to Mac, i never, ever needed to fix one of them be it hardware or software, the Macs always worked flawlessly.macmutt
Enslaving 2 harddrives? LOL

You know nothing.

I havent heard anyone using the term enslaving in a long time. If I remeber correctly it is the same thing as setting up a RAID.

I wasn't aware Dell was the computer of choice for gamers. Thanks for making me aware of that :| Silly me, thinking most PC gamers build their own PCs :|

They arent. The TC though an article from June 2007 that said they were laying off 8000 workers meant that they were going out of business.

So you can perform all these things with PC's and their components, but you can only find a nearly 2 year old article from some backwoods blog to support your claim? I bet you just googled it. SMH.

[QUOTE="MarloStanfield"]you realise that a lot of PC gamers are savvy enough to make their rigs? the only people who buy pre-packaged PC's are non PC gamers such as yourself

I wouldn't say that there's always an association between building your own and being a PC gamer. I built my own PC, and I really don't identify myself as a PC gamer anymore.

LOL @ "Dell" and "gaming computer" being used in a sentence together, thats a first

Most pc gamers will either 1. Build a computer on there own or 2. Buy the parts yourself and have someone put it together (a friend, the place you order the parts from sometimes only charge 25-50$ to put a computer together for you if you bought all the parts from them).

Dell computers are not gaming computers buddy!:P

This is as bad as the post comparing console prices to Alienware PC prices. It just shows a staggering lack of knowledge about PC gaming in general to think that any serious PC gamer would ever waste their money on such overpriced, underperforming systems. Even if you don't build your own there are much better and cheaper places to order ready built gaming PCs.

Dell makes some great laptops and monitors. Their desktop line isn't the greatest, but they're improving. Their XPS Studio line that released recently is actually quite decent. A Core i7 system with 3GB of DDR3 for $949. The video card isn't super great, though.

Man, I grew up on a Dell, and it's a little heartbreaking to hear they're doing tough. Still, I agree that you buy basically brand name...I got this laptop that's $200 cheaper, and does amazing things my Dell couldn't. The only thing I had to give up was Microsoft Works...pretty good deal, IMO. On topic, why are you bashing Dell? From the dozens of people I know that own one, I don't hear a negative thing about it...and when I used to own one, it's been better than Alienware and Vaio.

So if Windows is so stable then why is Microsoft rushing out this new Windows 7 O.S. only a year after Vista's release ?macmutt
God..your posts are so full of fail:

-Vista was released in 2006. Windows 7 will come out 3 years after Vista. Apple releases new OS every two years, I guess according to your logic it must mean they suck as hell

-Apple is doing great, but this is the result of ipod and iphone success. Their computers are still far behind major PC manufacturers and the only place where Apple is making any progress is US. Heck..the last data for first half of 2008 has shown their laptop market share has dropped worldwide

-Dell isn't going out of business, they've been doing very well recently. You're just jeleaus because Adamo is sleeker than any Macbook ;)

I think he -used- to know what he was talking about. Boot disks are largely a DOS thing, which was killed off in Windows 2000. We're talking a decade ago, back when graphics cards were a relatively new thing and LCD's were still a horrifically expensive luxury that most people had no use for.

Dell sucks. Their computers arecrappy and their customer service is even worse. What they had going for them was good customer service and cheap low end computers. Now their advertising sucks and there are cheaper brands out.

for the record dell is cutting jobs not going out of business.

laughingman42
thanks for clearing that, i thought they were actually going out of business. that's because PC gamers usually custom make thier own computers from newegg and tigerdirect.

Depends which, they laptops actualy are very high quality nowadays and they make some of the best monitors in the business (they make Apple monitors look like a joke in comparision, despite costing half of what Apple charges)

Dell is gone....out of business? Well someone should inform the stock market immidately because here is what their shares are selling for at the moment: http://finance.google.com/finance?client=ob&q=NASDAQ:DELL THere are a lot more companies in worst shape than Dell. I know a ton of people that work for Dell so it's intresting that you make it seem like they went out of business.

exactly. IMO it's a shell game. Yes, games have actually produced postive growth this year (which is saying a lot considering the economy). But looking closer all of the developers are taking huge losses. Most games under perform at retail, it's really just a select few that are doing very well. If you were to take a couple of those Wii games and accessories (like WiiFitt) out of the picture my guess we would be talking negative growth instead. Wii is hiding a lot of the problems in the industry right now. All of these developers going out of the business or announcing huge losses are the proof.

I'm going to assume you're talking about PCs for gaming, since this is a forum about video games, and the thought of PCs not being great for overall use is just entirely ignorant and embarassingly stupid. The only thing bad about gaming with PCs is that you have to update your computer every so often to play the latest games, whereas with consoles things are a lot more convenient. With people who don't know anything about upgrading computers, and people who just don't want to take the time, money, and effort to do that (including me) -- most people generally go with consoles for their gaming.

1. Dell is not going out of buiness

2. Alot of PC gamers make their own PCs from parts, its cheaper.

3. there are other retailers than dell

4. there are other retailers than dell!!!

5. Dell is not the best place to get a pre-made gaming PC.

6. compaines go out of buisness, even if dell was that is no reflection on the system as a whole.

7. DELL IS NOT GOING OUT OF BUINESS

It's not true? With custom, the choices are limitess. I could use cardboard if it worked. Of course it's a cheaper option if the builder wants it to be a cheaper option.

Dell is almost as bad as Alienware. For the same price as one of their "Gaming Rigs" you could put something together that would outperform their top of the line models. They do have awesome cases though...

[QUOTE="ahmedkandil"]Dell is almost as bad as Alienware. For the same price as one of their "Gaming Rigs" you could put something together that would outperform their top of the line models. They do have awesome cases though...supercubedude64
Does Dell own Alienware? Or is that Gateway?

Dell owns Alienware

HP owns VoodooPC.
