i wouldnt buy it...thats really too short a time for me..even the ps1 to ps2 to ps3 had a bigger gapstereointegrity
It would be a 5 year gap (2005-2010 ) which was the same gap between the PS and PS2 in America (1995-2000 ).
The only reason the past consoles didn't last more than 5 years is because you couldn't exactly update them like you can with services such as Xbox Live and PSN.
Look at how Sony, via updating, is continously upgrading and lengthening the life of the PSP. These consoles are going to last a few years longer than their former past, and there's still a lot of untapped potential left in them, believe it or not.
If I was you, I wouldn't expect them to be replaced in 2010. 2012 or maybe even longer is more reasonable.

I gotta debate you on that.
PS1 launched in 1995. PS2 launched in 2000. PS3 launched in 2006. Xbox 360 launched in 2005.
If Xbox 720 launches in 2010, that means 5 years since the last Xbox console.
PS1 - PS2 is 5 years and thus equal to Xbox 360 to Xbox 720 (assuming Xbox 720 comes in 2010).
PS2 - PS3 is 6 years and thus more than Xbox 360 - Xbox 720 (assuming Xbox 720 comes in 2010).
Thus, while PS2 to PS3 had a bigger gap, PS1 to PS2 didn't.

Let's throw all the math out the window please.
do you REALLY believe that this gen should already be ending? This is a gen with way more promise than any other to date and i am appaled that ms is thinking of leaving it already.

i have to agree. the first year for the xbox was NOT good and most think the gen really started when the ps3/wii release alongside the release of Gears on the 360.[QUOTE="ice144"][QUOTE="trakem"][QUOTE="stereointegrity"]i wouldnt buy it...thats really too short a time for me..even the ps1 to ps2 to ps3 had a bigger gapGunSmith1_basic

Uh dude your not going to have that attidude 2.5 years from now trust me. This gen isnt "already" ending its only half over.
I'm probably not going to buy it when it comes out, im going to give it 2 or 3 years for 2 reasons:
I wanna make sure it doesn't have a failure rate as big as the launch 360s andi'm satisfied with curent xbox games

Me too. I bought the PS3 at launch it was a mistake. Next time I will wait before I buy.
What disaster it would be if a new Xbox is release in 2010. No, Nintendo will not release a new console for sake of a new Xbox. Different demographic, so no fear of losing their customers. Sony will and must continue to back the PS3 at a minimum of 8 years, that's right, 8 years before the release of a new Playstation. With the development time of 1.5 -2 years to make a game, the gaming industry can not support a new system every 4 years. I think MS is smart enough to know this as well.

While next gen started with the release of the Xbox 360, it didn't get good untill Gears of War came out. Xbox 360's launch line up was crap.
I don't see Sony releasing another console until around 2014 or 2015. But we could see another M$ game system later this year or sometime next year, reason being is the space game developers are begining to want to use is getting far to large for the DVD9 and even with a standard HDD it's going to need a much larger HDD drive than what M$ has out now for the XBOX.jimm895
They could always release a bigger harddrive, and I don't think the next Xbox will use disks at all.

The 360 launch was better then the ps3 launch.
Condemned. I liked PD0. DoA4. And I also liked Kameo.
And before the end of the first year we already had games like Dead Rising. One of my favorite games so far this gen on any platform.
So far for the ps3 I have only really liked Heavenly Sword. Uncharted was ok. But I despise Resistance.
360 had a quality first and Gears was just icing on the cake. Even though I am not a Gears fan. Sony fanboys have definitely missed out the most of any from the console crowd.

Well us Europeans had it worse. The Xbox was released in March 2002. Yup a 3 year cycle till we had the 360. Well 2 and a half years because the last six months of 2005 saw nothing come out for the original Xbox as Microsoft and seemingly everybody else dropped their support for the console. Oh and guess who got an Xbox in March 2005? Yeah I wasn't pleased at how quickly support was dropped.
I hope Microsoft have learnt their lessons and will ensure no next gen RROD oh and hopefully the 360 won't see the same "dropped as quickly as a hot potato"treatment that the original Xbox got in its final year.
As for Sony: well they are unpredictable but are starting to break into a stride in terms of software quality and hardware sales and if that trend continues I doubt we will see a PS4 for a fairly long time.
Same thing for Nintendo I doubt we will see a Wii 2 until sales drop significantly or demand for HD increases.
I predict a new Xbox in 2010, PS4 in late 2011 and Wii 2 is too hard to pin a date in my estimations.

then they get no games :twisted:naa oj there will probably be a blu-ray drive..
i see microsoft possibly doing that. but nintendo and sony wont. nintendo will probally be the last to release its console because it see's no threat. unless of course microsoft takes the motion sencing thing. which hopefully they wont, and there wont be and gears of waggle.
but i really hope they do cause i want an xbox 360 for halo 3, but if they release a new one i can just get that instead, and play live on that
[QUOTE="stereointegrity"]i wouldnt buy it...thats really too short a time for me..even the ps1 to ps2 to ps3 had a bigger gapSaturos3091
The reason why it felt shorter was because MS left the Xbox to die a year early before the release of the 360. They stopped most of their support to concentrate on the 360. That's why it felt like the console died prematurely.
The next NIntendo ans Playstation will come in 2011. Or 2013. Becasue the Wii is making alot of money and the PS3 is finally selling. Soulkiller2252013 is the magic number for me. I will not buy a next gen system until 2013 at the earliest.
:DThe world ends 2012, or atleast thats what the Aztex/Mayan calender saidSony_Narutendo
That's the newage interpretation. The calender itself doesn't specifically state *end of world*. :P
microsoft already said they wont be releasing a new console that soon.lawlessx
I don't think the 360 was meant to last long, it uses dvd9.
If there would be a new console for the Xbox, would it be anymore powerful than the ps3 or just as powerful?nuge004
Uh, it would be several times more powerful. Processing power advancess too quickly these days... the PS3 will practically be a dinosaur compared to the computers of 2010. (okay, I may be exagerated, but not by much)

Wouldn't developers hate this then, always having to learn new ways for developing games because they are not use to the hardware or software of the system like how the Ps3 was to the 360?
