Seriously. TC's little brother will be allowed to kill all kinds of life but not see the conversations that lead up to 2 beings creating life. Our society is so effed up! What is the worst that will happen? Your brother will ask questions, all you have to do is answer with facts, not opinions or religious opinions, just facts. So the massive amount of killing people and things don't bother you but a not even R rated sex scene that you can see on cable any day of the week will deter you? :|

[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"]If you read Mein Kampf you will be amazed by the similarities. Control/Police/IndoctrinatePariah-I didn't suggest indoctrinating or controlling anything. I'm making a case for the ratings system attaching higher ratings to sexual innuendo over violence. Nice attempt at Godwin though.
I have experience with societies outside America because most of my family comes originates in another country. Sex is treated completely normally in that country, all my family living there is exposed to sexual innuendos and references on a daily basis and they even talk of it in front of their parents. It's not all hyped up over there like it is here. Teens feel the need to rebel over here becuase society tries to hard to ram it into their heads that if you aren't abstinant than you are a bad person. If you look at sex casually than people will treat it casually and not do the things that people in America do. None of my family have any early pregnancies or STD, they are all fine, and were raised with sex. The problem, as you've stated, if our culture. Which talks of how bad it is where ever you go. That is the problem.sacredtext62But it DOESN'T talk about how "bad" it is; America is filled to the brim with sexual media. Noting the presence of philosophical detractors amidst the culture isn't the same as the culture as a whole looking down upon it. If that were the case, the FCC would have skewered most of American television by now. A taboo is not considered a writ of law. And the difference between our culture and others is that degree of taboo attributed to the subject, but you're largely underestimating the negative effect of increased sexualization in foreign countries. When you don't bother to put sex into context, as opposed to just tossing your children into a sex-addled world filled with fetishistic properties that probably can't even be attributed to the definition of "sex," you warp the meaning of it, which--in turn--drastically affects people's lifestyles. The problem here is not "being raised with sex." I'm not even sure what such an innocuous statement is supposed to mean. My parents put sex into context for me as well. In which case, I too would be able to say that I was "raised with sex." Talking about it openly is not the problem. Making sure you apply the proper context is what's paramount. Trying to say that Teens are just trying to act like rebels ignores what actually goes on in the public schools. Perhaps some could be attributed to your ratio of "rebelliousness," but it's essentially a lifestyle that ignores the presence of a taboo altogether. But that's the thing: American culture often times does not put sex into the correct context. It works both ways. You show too much and children have no idea what is really normal, show too little, and any sexual urge can be inferred as immoral, or wrong, and they are left confused, and to fend for themselves. Our culture dictates that we shouldn't discuss with children the physiology behind sex, the necessity for precaution, or why people have the desire to have sex. Our authortarianism is not any more helpful than foreign methods of social liberalism. There needs to be a balance. Nudity is considered shameful even though being comfortable with our bodies is necessary in making important decisions relating to sex. It's counter productive, and we are only causing more problems due to our own social insecurities. Basically, the main difference between our media and foreign media is in our approach to sexualization. Hollywood seems to depict more unrealistic standards than foreign media, and therein lies the problem. Sure you could say that sexual themes are limited to be shown in mature programming, but in a world where pornography is a google search away, this is not enough. you can't hide everything, so it needs to be explained, so children know what to do with it. If the only context kids get is in porn and motion pictures, we can't exactly expect them to have a good understanding or the perspective necessary to deal with these issues, now can we?
[QUOTE="Arjdagr8"]There is a hardcore pornographic scene which is almost unavoidable. If you do not like that type of thing i would not recommend getting it.Dweedleking5000**** so there is a sex scene.. damn.. really wanted this game.. nvm Im gonna get Baldurs gate collection for PC or maybe oblivion elder scrolls GOTY for 360 instead now. dude i was joking man. There scenes really isn't that explicit. And its so easy to avoid. Just type in mass effect sex scene on youtube and see how its completely not explicit.
If your brother is so young that you are worried about him seeing a sex scene, he has no business playing mass effect. Its M for Mature.
Is there anyway to block out the Sex Scenes? my younger Brothers play my games but I dont really wanna buy this game if it has Sex Scenes like Wikipedia says..
Im thinking of the Xbox 360 version btw if that makes a difference.

OH NOES! not teh S-E-X.....
Hey lets let them play games where they are killing/murdering 100's or 1000's of people, but if the game has a scene that hints that the characters are doing a natural act that all of us, at least one day, will have done. (except for Hermits) Also the act which is the reason why we exist..... then lets declare the game unfit and not suitable.
Your buying Mass Effect, i know it's a high rated game, but i just hope you like lots and lot and lots of dialogue because it's loaded with it, i mean don't get this game expecting a HALO with RPG elements. It's much more talky than any other sci-fi shooter /rpg you'll ever play. I was watching my brother in law play it way back when it first came out and i literally fell asleep watching and listening to the dialogue...oh well what ever floats your boat.Is there anyway to block out the Sex Scenes? my younger Brothers play my games but I dont really wanna buy this game if it has Sex Scenes like Wikipedia says..

The sex-scene is something you could see in a sit-com. It's not terribly graphic.
You'll see more graphic scenes on Lost or some other such Tv showIs there anyway to block out the Sex Scenes? my younger Brothers play my games but I dont really wanna buy this game if it has Sex Scenes like Wikipedia says..

First off, there's ONE sex scene, and it's upwards of five seconds of bare back, side boob, and a quarter of a butt crack.
Secondly, you don't want to have your little brothers experience something completely natural they could see pretty much anywhere on TV or the internet, but apparently have no qualms with them running around killing people?
The ESRB rates games for these purposes.
