Im thinking about getting a wii within the next year or a wii 2 if it ever comes out, but i also wonder if it will be worth it. Mayber i should et a ps3 instead. Im a bit conflicted because i really want to play Mario Galaxy, the Metroid Prime Trilogy, SSBB, and Legend of Zelda TP. All of which i cant get on any other console besides the wii. So what should i do?

My advice is to go to a board not called SW filled with blatant trolls (who will be here shortly) and ask anything about the wii. My personal opinion is that if you enjoy Nintendo games and have no problem playing games with an appeal that isn't focused on the age 15-35 demographic and you don't mind dropping $200 you should go for it.

I'm personally waiting to see how good all the new titles are. I don't really care too much about Nintendo's first party actually.

All the new titles are all 2010 I believe, so I'm gonna hold out for a while.

Not the best place to ask that question. Anyway, if you really want to play those games go right ahead and buy it, also, there are other good games on the Wii that you can't play on other systems.

I would say get a PS3. You get Uncharted 2, MGS4, Killzone 2, Demon's Souls, and a bunch more fantastic games exclusively to the PS3. You already have a DS anyway which is where the majority of nintendo's good games go to.

Now's a really good time to get one. You'll have some great games to catch up on that'll tide you over untill more good games are released.

agreed. I need to wait anyway, im in college and have no tv at the moment. so yeah. im most interested in Nintendos first party games because i can get much better 3rd party games on pc in just about every genre. fps, rpg, and indie being the most important.

The Wii is overpriced. Isn't there a price drop coming for it?

I think you ought to wait-- at least till Christmas time, but hey, go for it. Nintendo-made games are awesome.

yeah, but i already have my pc to satisfy my hardcore gaming needs. plus i have a GREAT steam account. as for KZ@, there would be no point. I have crysis which looks better and plays better, and COD 4 which plays better as well, especially with pc controls. MGS4 and LBP are really tempting though. as is the blue ray player.

Well I'd like to believe some of us have some honor. The Wii is a pretty cool system. I really like Madworld, LoZ, NMH, SMG, Metroid Prime Triology. Those are all I have for it, and they are all well made titles.

There's many rumors leading to say the Wii price is going to drop to $200 in a month or two. Yeah I think it's worth, the Vitural console is too awesome.

If you want another console, you should get wii, since you already have a high end pc. Like you said, you can satisfy your hardcore gaming needs with PC. Ps3 would be a good choice, but the only real system seller IMO is MGS 4 (which is amazing), since most of the good games this gen are PC/Ps3/360 multiplat. In my opinion, all of nintendo's main first party titles are of the quality that you would have come to expect from nintendo. Plus, the wii is hands down the best party system (also since so many people have wii's nowadays, chances are you don't really need to buy any extra wiimotes when you want to play with friends).

1) The Wii 2/Wii HD deal is basically nonsense. When Iwata or Reggie announce a new console, THEN it will stop being nonsense. Keep in mind that Pachter is the one that's talking about that Wii 2/Wii HD stuff all the time, and I think I don't need to tell you that Pachter is always wrong about everything.

2) Once you buy the Wii, go to the Wii board here and check the recommendations thread. All the good games are listed there with screenshots and links to some reviews.

3) Wait a couple of weeks to see if the whole price drop thing is real. It seems to be pretty legit, so, waiting a couple of weeks is not a bad idea.

4) Do not waste your money on useless peripherals, unless they come bundled with a game for practically nothing. The zapper is a terrible waste of money, Wii Motion Plus bundles, on the other hand, are a good deal. Same with Mario Kart Wii, which comes with the wheel: it IS a plastic shell, but it's a good bundle. The Cl4ssic controller, as well as a Gamecube Controller and a Gamecube memory card should be your main priorities, plastic shells should NOT.

5) Since you don't have a TV, keep in mind that component cables are MANDATORY if you end up buying an HDTV. The difference is huge and nobody should hook up a Wii to an HDTV using the regular AV cables that come with the Wii. Even the freaking manual states that component cables are a must if you have an HDTV. If you do get the component cables and an HDTV, go to the system menu and change your resolution to 480p and your aspect ratio to 16:9. I know this may sound obvious to you, but you wouldn't believe the amount of people that show up on the Wii board complaining about the picture quality because they insist on hooking up the Wii to an HDTV using AV cables. Also, third party component cables work well and are way cheaper than the official Nintendo set. Don't be afraid to buy them. I have had a Mad Catz set since March and I haven't had a single issue.

6) A cheap SD card (anything above 2 Gigs is good enough) is a wise purchase too. Since firmware V. 4.0, the Wii lets you store VC and Wiiware games on the SD card, as well as launching them straight from it (well, it actually uses the Wii's internal memory as some sort of temporary cache, but you won't even notice it). You can find a 2 Gigs SD card at Amazon for $13, so, there's no excuse.

7) The Wii supports Wifi out of the box. If you have a Wifi router, you're good to go. If you don't, you can either buy one or, if you have a regular router already, you may want to buy the LAN adapter. Both are great options. The USB dongle is NOT a wise investment. Avoid!

I a really want for the Wii right now are Super Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda: Twighlight Princess, Metroid Prime:Trilogy, Okami and SSBB

I have Grim Fandango to satisfy my point and click gaming needs. As for wii sports resort, idk if that would be worth investing in.

You are the most helpful person alive. Seriously thank you.

I have a 4 gig SD card, so thats good. I am probaly going to wait 6 months before i buy a wii both because of the anticipated price drop, and because im short on money. I have a friend who might be willing to sell his wii (just the console, no controllers) for 30 or 40 bucks which would be a good deal. The first two games im going to pick up will probably be Super Mario Galaxy and LoZ twighlight princess.

jettpack

That's a great deal. A Wiimote + Nunchuk combo is around $50, and you may want to invest on a cl4ssic controller ($20) just to be ready for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, if you like fighting games, and, if you're interested, Monster Hunter 3. Both games do support the Wiimote + Nunchuk combo but, even though I don't know how it works with Monster Hunter 3, I have tried all the control schemes with Tatsunoko vs Capcom (sans arcade stick, alas), and the conclusion I came up with is that the cl4ssic controller is like a freaking wet dream for 2D fighting games. It's even better than any Dual Shock model, which says a lot. The wiimote + nunchuk combo is a joke on Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and the Gamecube controller is serviceable, but it pales in comparison with the cl4ssic controller.

If you don't really feel like playing Gamecube games now, that's ok. But, when and if you get interested, keep in mind that you'll need a Gamecube controller and a Gamecube memory card.

In conclusion, $40 + $50 + $20 (if you want a cl4ssic controller) is an awesome deal. Go for it.

I have a 360, DS, PS2 and Wii. Until I started streaming Netflix through my 360, my Wii was my most used system. I love my Wii, and as far as gaming goes, it continues to be my favorite system, but clearly I'm in the minority when it comes to the tiny percentage of the gaming population that is System Wars.

If you have a good PC then you're already getting your hardcore needs taken care of with better graphics. Getting the 360 or PS3 at that point kinda becomes redundant. If you're going to get a wii then I'm sure it will be to play the awesome games that just aren't offered on the PC, 360 or PS3 so I guess it kinda makes sense to get one. I suggest waiting until the holiday season to see if the price drop rumors are true first.

From my experiences, I'd say get a PS3 instead of a Wii. If you like Ninty first parties then ok but, the Wii gets old fast imo and I have more fun with PS3.

To the issue of getting a Wii, take a look at the line up of games. Not just those out right now, but those coming out in the future. Barrow a friends Wii or spend a little time at a friends house with their Wii. See if you like it. If you do, go for it.

As to the issue of getting a PS3 instead, take a look at the PS3's games. Not just those out right now, but those coming out in the future. See if you like that better.

No one can weigh your options taking into account for your taste in games better than you can. Please enjoy this encoming onslaught of Wii/PS3/Xbox360/PC fanboys telling you what you should/should not buy.l

Don't do it man.

It was my worst decision in gaming ever.

PS3_CowBoy

Virtual Boy?

I never got a Virtual boy, so Wii wins.

:)

I remember the Virtual Boy. I never got one, but I feel so sorry for anyone who ever did.

I never own it, but played more than enough to know that it's one of the worst systems ever. And don't play if for over an hour, you'll be sorry.

I'm a PC/PS3/Wii owner and I love the Wii and think it is very under-rated by gamers. The thing about the Wii is that many of it's most interesting games get very little hype/publicity so you have to do some research if you want to find all the nice gems. Also Virtual Console is amazing and Wii-ware has some great stuff that people don't talk about but if you do the research (go to wiiware-world.com) you'll find some nice cheap games (i.e. world of goo, contra rebirth, Lost Winds, Lit, Bomberman Blast!, Eduardo the Samurai Toaster, Nyx, Toki Tori, Swords & Soldiers, both Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles games, etc.)Anyways, here are some retail games for you to check out:

I would say get a PS3. You get Uncharted 2, MGS4, Killzone 2, Demon's Souls, and a bunch more fantastic games exclusively to the PS3. You already have a DS anyway which is where the majority of nintendo's good games go to.

jettpack

yeah, but i already have my pc to satisfy my hardcore gaming needs. plus i have a GREAT steam account. as for KZ@, there would be no point. I have crysis which looks better and plays better, and COD 4 which plays better as well, especially with pc controls. MGS4 and LBP are really tempting though. as is the blue ray player.

Honestly if you have an HD tv and no Blu ray then PS3 is the best choice. I use Blu ray just as much as i game.

Edit: Oh haha my bad i didnt see the part where you said you dont have a tv...in that case i wouldnt get any of the consoles :p

PS2 has it's own games. Besides, you said Okami beats those games so why bother?

do you only play your favorit game of all time? or do you play all you want? :P

see?

and this is simply my opinion, of course the ps2 has its own games, but its not like they are AAAA material

closest thing is KH :P

and this is going waaay off topic

I'm just saying, you're recommending a Wii to play a PS2. I see that as a little backwards especially when PS2 has many games that be call AAAA material like Jak & Daxter, Ape Escape 2 & 3, and KH just to name a few.
