So instead of investing money into the Wii U...Nintendo instead releases a 2DS??

I mean seriously Nintendo. With the Wii U in desperate need of games and support, instead of investing the time, money, resources towards gaining that support for the Wii U...you release a stupid and doomed to fail 2DS? Really?

The money that was used for research, marketing, and manufacturing the of the 2DS, surely could have been poured into 1st party project for the Wii U, along with coaxing 3rd party developers as well, right?

The X1 and PS4 are right around the corner. The Wii U has had a near historically bad release. Yet Nintendo seems perfectly content to release uneeded handhelds. I just don't get Nintendo honestly. 

I mean, am I off base here? Was there a huge demand for a 2D focused handheld from Nintendo? Are Nintendo fans perfectly content with their current game selection, even though the true powerhouse 1st party titles like Metroid, Starfox, and Zelda haven't even been talked about by Nintendo?

I really want to like and support Nintendo...but I just can't at this point. I WANT to get a Wii U, but it's just not a worthwhile investment at this point. Both the X1 and the PS4 already have more titles I'm interested in on their launch day than the Wii U has managed to produce in over a year of it's lifespan. 

Get your act together Nintendo, please. Or, you can do the whole gaming world a favor, and drop out of the console market, and release your games on the real gaming platforms. 

I'd imagine the R&D and money spent in hardware is different than the software. So then making the 2DS does not effect the games one way or another. Nintendo is screwing around with the Wii U because they know their main cash cow is the handheld market. And even though they won't admit it. I bet they would like to just drop the Wii U support and move on to something different.

you haven't realized yet that they are going to put all their focus on the 3ds because that's what has been making them money this year. 2DS is going to sell and that combined with the 3ds sales are going to help bandage the sinking ship which is the Wii-U

1.  Nintendo has LOTS of money.  Investing money in X doesnt preclude investment from Y.

2.  A hardware team doesnt work with software.  Literally, they manpower used to create this 2DS cost the Wii U (or 3ds for that matter) development teams nothing.

Can't imagine the money being invested into the 2DS being as substantial as you make it seem. I mean, it's probably cheaper to manufacture than the 3DS, right?

Hell, I've been thinking of buying one myself, even though I hate the design.

But the TC is saying Nintendo isn't investing enough in Wii U and that 2DS is taking their focus away from the strugggling console. This list shows that Nintendo is putting a ton of effort into the Wii U. An outstanding amount really.

The Wii-U has plenty of first-party software coming. Problem is none of it's here yet and there's barely any third-party support to compensate for that.

My problem lays more with the 2DS and its ugly ass design. Seriously, what was Nintendo thinking?

If you think I'm complaining about the 3D-less feature, that's not it. When Nintendo announced the 2DS, I said, "Well, that's a bullet in the Vita's brain." But then I read it can't close.... WHY? Seriously, WHY? The only (lame-ass) reason I've heard so far is "it's for children". Bull-crap. Why not just make a 3DS that, you know, doesn't have 3D? Why design it so stupidly? (I know it sounds like being able to close isn't a big deal but it is). It's like Nintendo is punishing people for not wanting or can't use the 3D effect.

If anything, they are focusing TOO MUCH on Zelda and not enough on the other franchises like Metroid, FZero and Star Fox.  They have alot of forgotten franchises that could be hits such as Uniracers, Stunt Race FX, Vortex could be their own 1st party online mech game, a freaking POKEMON SNAP would be PERFECT for WiiU's Gamepad, Fatal Frame as well (Granted if they remove all the unnecessary help they give in that game that completely ruins all chances of it being scary), Zangeki No Reginleiv could be their own 1st party MMO if they tweaked the gameplay but oh well.

All I can do is hope for the other franchises to fruition.

It is strange that they legited Wind Waker. It's a remake of one of the best games I've ever played, but it is still just a remake.

On the subject of FE X SMT, while those are two really strong franchises, we really know pretty much nothing about that game and how it will play.

Cost vs. reward has several factors into it you know.

If every company thought to add more money into whatever product that is failing at any random time, we would have a lot less businesses out there.

If they had your mind set at the beginning then who knows what would have happened. Right now though it's probably not worth it.
