Go for the Wii, and make sure it's not one of these newer models that isn't backwards compatible with GameCube games and peripherals. Not only will you have access to GC and Wii games, you'll also have access to a glut of downloadable Virtual Console and WiiWare games. If you want a list of Wii games alone, everyone's got one for ya! Mine follows.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Metroid Prime Trilogy (or just Metroid Prime 3, which is less than half the price on Amazon)
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Metroid: Other M (yeah, I know... but it's still Metroid)
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (or Accent Core Plus, but it's much more expensive)
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Okami (though the PS2 version is superior)
Monster Hunter Tri
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Xenoblade Chronicles (coming next year)
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
There are also several GC games that I recommend (I would recommend more, but these are ones I consider must-haves from last gen):
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Metroid Prime (if you don't get Trilogy for the Wii)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (ditto)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (which you should get even if you also get Brawl)
The 3DS may or may not have a bright future, but there's currently not much to say for it. The hardware needs a revision to improve the battery life and add a second circle pad, and the most notable games on it right now seem to be remakes and rereleases (including old Game Boy games).
The Wii U won't be compatible with GameCube discs. I expect the games to be added to the U's Virtual Console eventually, but given how things have gone with the Wii's VC, "eventually" could mean "it will take years before we release the game you want".
