That review for mgs4 was probably the most well written and dead on reviews the site has posted in the last 3 years. It is reminiscent of greg k's great writing style. Seriously awesome review, great score as well.

Anyone else think the review was just great?

TBH, if there was anything that lost the credibility of the score that GS gave, it was that Kevin rated it.

This is the same guy that rated AC = 9.0, NMH = 9.0, ME = 8.5 etc....

The guy only writes the review, the scores are all of them, they collaborate :| Way to know the rating system :D

I don't think it completely works like that. He would still have more input in the final score than anyone else because he is the one reviewing it.

No, they all have equal say, and what they come up with is what he puts. Its always been like this. They would never just let 1 guy rate a game, because there are too many different tastes. Thats why I'm surprised MGS4 got a 10, its one of those love hate games. You either love it or hate it, apparently all the gamespot writers love it.

No because otherwise Insomnia wouldn't have made that huge complaint about Aaron Thomson scoring their platformer (R&C:TOD) when he usually plays sports games...

Thats a bad way of doing it. Gamespot just lost even more credibility for me. You cant properly score a game unless you have spent a decent amount of time on it. I'm sure not all the GS editors spend the same amount of time playing the game as the editor reviewing the game does.

The Mass Effect review was a bit harsh on the score.

But the written review was great.

And To be honest VOn Ord did a fantastic job with alot of game reviews.

Sure he overrated some games, but his justifications in some of those reviews were praise the games deserved.

But I hate his Metroid PRime 3 review. It is just the worst written review he has. I think Kevin contradicted himself too many times.

I'm sure there is some sort of qualifier, I only know what I know because I read about it some where back in the day. I bet you have to spend a certain amount of time on a game or beat it and play it online and stuff to review it. Which is why it took 2 days to get the MGS review out I would assume. Lots of gameplay in a short time.

mass effects review was spot on even though it was one of hte best games ive played this gen, probably #3. but its not his score that sucks its the review system, there were just too many flaws and glitches to keep the game AAA, on the old system it wouldve been 8.8 or 8.9

The thing I find about Kevin Van Ord's reviews is that, he does brilliant writing and attention to detail and overall, just a really great review, but a lot of the time, his reviews just have really strange point scores.
