So let me get this straight, EVEN WITH SHORTAGES, the Wii OUTSOLD the 360 in Jan

I'm not even going to discuss how pathetic PS3 sales have been,

but wow... even with shortages the Wii beat the 360 which is widely available... the Wii on the other hand is impossible to find. I guess its only a matter of time before the Wii passes the 360's overall sales... especially considering how badly it's crushing the 360 in Japan :(

This doesn't surprise me as the Wii was just released a couple months ago. Of course demand for the system will be higher then a system that's been out for over a year. That's a given. The key now is to see how long the Wii sustains these sale numbers. With it be in high demand through March and April like the XBox 360 was? Why do people keep mentioning XBox 360 in Japan? We all know the system isn't going to sell well in Japan because the gamers in Japan hate America and American products. The Wii is crushing the PS3 in Japan as well and Japan loves Sony. What's up with that?

Somehow I think you believe Wii has a very low amount of units available in stores, but that's not the case, it's still getting very big shipments to stores, it just has very huge demand.  360 was also sold out this time last year, both were huge at launch, this is not the time to be speculating on which is more successful.

I don't think "victory" can be claimed just yet. The Wii just released. Naturally, it is going to have higher demand than a 15 month old console, and people are going to buy more of them. Once the initial launch hype wears off, sales are going to decline. If it maintains a large lead throughout the year, we will have a better idea of how strong the Wii really is.

The real story here is the PS3's sales. It also just released, and is being outsold by that same 15 month old console.

Wii and 360 are available world wide,PS3 hasnt lauched in some places (europe) it wont be fair to compare sales until next month.MGS9150

The sales comparison is in the U.S. only. They aren't even looking at the numbers in Japan or U.K. So the comparison is fair.

It's worse for the PS3 because it just launched. The XBox 360 has been out for a year, so we know the sales really shouldn't be as high as the 2 consoles that just launched. So it's actually more pathetic for the PS3. Usually when a next-gen system launches everyone buys the new system and abandon's last-gen systems. That's not happening with the PS3. More people are actually buying the inferior PS2 and leaving the PS3 on retail shelves. Now that's pathetic.

The XBox 360 launched with 400,000 in US, 400,000U.K. and 200,000 in Japan. In January they shipped about 150.000-200,000 to US. & U.K.market, but in Feb & Mar, they were shipping well over 200,000+ for those months. Check the monthly chart. True XBox 360 did have a lower supply, but not by much and they were still complete sold out everywhere, unlike the PS3.

I live in the U.S. and the NPD numbers that were released was for U.S. only. I could care less how XBox 360 does in Japan. Since it's an American system, I care more as to how it sells here in the states.

Different culture.  Different tastes.  Different economy.

Why should we, on a forum primarily located in the West, care about the success of a console in a foriegn market?  Of course the Japanese will want different styles of games and gameplay -- their culture is quite different than that of Europe and the States.

Sales =/ Quality.  Learn this.
