People just confuse the hell out of me sometimes :?

I hate Wifi...so for me yes it is unnecessary. I prefer having my systems connected to an ethernet port. Laptops sure. that I want Wifi for. My game systems I like the ethernet cable better. Direct connection.

Imo a $400 price tag is alot, I just dont think the PS3 is worth that price tag... although technically its actually worth more than what its selling for.

It is. :D Just kidding.

People complain about the price usually because they don't have one and are jealous of people who do. Thats my guess. I think the PS3 is overpriced, but I also wouldn't buy a MW2 special edition copy, thats just the way I am.

I won't argue that fact, but I will say that I have my PS3 using my Wifi and I have never had a shoddy connection, so it can't be a complete bust... my 360 is straight connection and I've never really experienced much of a change up in my gaming... But I am in an area that has fiber-optics and I have a good bandwidth so I'm sure people that aren't as geographically lucky might see a bigger gap

I have my PS3 wirelessly connected and its fine, I think if the PS3 connectivity with the router is 80-100% its going to be fine, less than 80% forget it, but sometimes you have no choice but to connect wirelessly.

I'm not saying that the features are useful or even better for everyone. For me, wifi is the best choice. And if you're looking for the extra features the PS3 provides, it really does have a great value. Expensive, but great in value. I still use my PS2 as a DVD player from time to time.

It was worth it at $600.

And wow - $150 for some special edition? That's a ridiculous price, especially coming from the publisher that says the PS3 costs too much.

Im sorry but no matter what way you swing it the PS3 was never worth $600.

Has anyone on this board ever heard of the term "Value to the consumer"???

I mean it boggles MY mind that people don't know what value actually is.

Unecessary for some situations, not for others. I can't really wire a PS3 to the internet in this house. It's not practical. So for me the wifi is necessary because I can't wire it directly.

I agree, its like gaming is a luxury its not meant to be affordable for everyone. If you don't think its worth it then don't buy it its not like you have to. And if anyone says that the PS3 or any console is expensive but decides to spend 150 on a single game!? Is not someone I'd take serious in regards to something not being worth it or not.

I made this decision a long time ago. That's why I don't own any of the current generation consoles, they are just too damn expensive.

My only assumption then is that you are a PC gamer, which no offense, but that's like the most expensive route... Not saying it's not worth it but I would have to guess if you play games on a consistent basis you upgrade your system regularly... which is way more expensive then any console... If i'm way off the mark on my assumption then I'm sorry for being stupid

Haven't upgraded in two years. I can play crysis on high/very high with acceptable frame rates (20-30), and every other game on all high settings perfectly.

That's true. But at least you have the option of not going with the special edition. That's where Sony blew it imo. They should have given some options in order to have a cheaper start off point. Just an 80 gig PS3 with BC, no wifi, no sixaxis, no browser option might have been a bit cheaper and more attractive to some consumers.

Overall the PS3 might not be 'expensive' because of all the bells and whistles it has, but some people don't want all of those bells and whistles that make it expensive, people would rather not have those bells and whistles so they can pay less. And they look at a 360 and look at the games available and most of them look similar so they label the PS3 expensive, even though its sort of like comparing a Mac to a PC (not exactly, but in terms of price and customization, to a much lesser extent.)

For what you get the PS3 is not expensive yet is at the same time, makes it suck for someone like myself whom has been on the fence because of this pickle for a long time.

Whatever floats your boat...But it is not a useless feature......because I, and all that I know that have PS3's use Wifi to great effect. In fact, I would not go back to having another damn useless wire hanging out the back of my living room tv cabinet, and somehow strung across the room to my pc and modem. I personally hardly ever watch Blu Ray movies on mine, but it certainly is not a useless feature. The only useless feature PS3 has is Home....and it's free anyway.

It's funny how so many can say "go hard wired.. it's better for gaming". So everyone has a router right next to their ps3 nor do they have/want to use a 100 ft cable going in and out of every room. BTW I use wifi and depending on what I'm downloading on my pc I can get download speeds at 1 mb/s and a few times I've hit 1500 kb/s and I'm only using wireless g. I average downlaod speeds at 500 kb/s though. With my ps3 the online is a tad bit slower then my pc, but I get 0 lag in games and this is with a 75% connection rate.

WiFi is when you dont use it.

That is like saying online is useless cause the majority of gamers don't use it. This useless arguement can only really be used on the sixaxis, as it is the only feature PS3 has that has all but been abandoned, and was rarely implemented well in games from day one. But features like Wifi, bluray, bluetooth and others all are very useful and are used on a massive level by many PS3 owners. And if you are using Wifi (like me), paying the extra is subsedised by the fact I use it for online, and do not have to pay for online.......Unlike with 360 where if I want Wifi, I have to buy it seperate as well as pay MS a yearly fee to be able to use there rip off service. Live's yearly monetry charge is a huge useless feature, because none of us of sound mind want the charge of paying to have the internet twice, and MS make enough off all the content that hits Live.
