I've read a few posts here in System Wars and I've seen that a lot of people are not excited for Fable 2 at all claiming that the original Fabe flopped. I understand that a bunch of this hate is coming from people that don't own an XBOX or Xbox 360. The PC had the original FABLE, but I personally prefered the Xbox counterpart due to better controls, but that's just MY opinion. I haven't played much of the PC version though.

Anyway, thepoint I'm trying to make ist hat the original Fable had one of the best atmospheres andmood inanygame.

ThisatmosphereremindedmeoftheoneinElderScrollsIVOblivionabit.

Character development was great, and decisions influence appearance of your character.

Fable2 seems to only improve upon this, and add its own things to it.

Anyways, the original Fable was kickass, it was only the excessive Molyneux created hype that made people angry when it actually game out.

Fable seems to have interesting ideas, but, it's seems they aren't implemented very well IMO.

I thought the original Fable was awesome. Don't know why people on SW hate it so much.

fable 2 will pwn goty 2008 forget about cows

Now let's talk about the opening of the story, as I said, you can be a man or a woman, the story starts in classic computer game style. It's all about this regal bird, flying through this amazing and incredible landscape, through down valleys, over mountaintops, through city streets, the bird just comes to rest on the top of this tower. The camera follows the dump down, it comes down, the crap lands on this kid's head - that's you. Anyway, that's the style of the game. You're nobody, you're nothing, you live in the sewers, everybody, you know, just disregards you. Your destiny is to be a truly great hero.

The story has a baddy, who's Lucien, we're trying to make him the most cruel baddy you've ever seen, not evil, cruel. He is destined to build this tower, called the spire, that tower will end up five miles high, what you do with that tower is very much dependent on how you play the game, we are really going in, and anyone that saw the talk with Peter Jackson this morning and heard some of the things that I said will realize that I'm really into the world and the story connecting, what you are, so you will find the story slightly different when you play it, but you still will be able to talk about that, you are destined, in that story, to bring together a group of heroes rather like the Magnificent 7.

"

[edit] Gameplay

[edit] Combat

Announced at E3 2007, there is a new revamped combat system. All melee combat takes place on the X button. All ranged combat runs on the Y button and magic on the B button. Flourishes will be shown in a different perspective and time will slow down to show finishing moves. Moves done in melee combat are also dependent on where the player is located. For example, if a player is on top of a tower, pressing the X button may cause the player to throw a certain enemy off of the tower rather than attack with a weapon. Also, in the X06 edition of the combat with a not yet ready combat engine shows you can use the environment which leads on to different combat reaches. The character can get into a bar fight shown in the combat demo (the first tested engine).

There are multiple different weapon types known of so far: guns, axes, swords, hammers, and maces. Longbows have also been confirmed and crossbows remain a possibility. In addition to the traditional bows and crossbows, the usage of a musket is shown in the game trailer, and in another gameplay demo the player is shown slinging one across his back, possibly suggesting that it could be equipped.[4]

[edit] Dog

The player will encounter a dog that will stay with him or her for the rest of the game. Molyneux has stated that the dog is an entity that will get the player to care, to experience love or hate, when he announced this feature at the GDC 2007. Every dog will be unique in some way and morph depending on a variety of factors such as alignment. The dog will assist the player by alerting him to threats (although never giving the player away to the threat) and so completely replacing the mini map, and attacking whatever enemies the player is weakest to, depending, for example, on the weapon drawn. In a recent interview and game demonstration Molyneux showed some of the interactions players can have with their dogs, including buying toys, playing fetch and rewarding or punishing their dogs for their behavior.

Obeying three main laws (do not aggravate the player; unconditionally love the player and self-preservation), the dog features advanced AI. Although the dog is not directly controllable, it will respond to the player's actions; moving to attack will bring it to attack, running somewhere will have the dog run. Behavior is context-specific, and the dog will stay much closer in towns or when the player is hurt than when outside. He is, to a degree, trainable using expressions.[5] Molyneux also revealed that if the player seriously does not want a dog, then they have to run away and escape from it (preferably when it is injured), although the dog will track down the player, causing him or her to run away again. One example given is if the dog is injured and the player leaves and goes to the pub, later there will be a scratching at the door. Someone will open the door for it and observers will react negatively.

[edit] Family

Another mechanism to get the player to care are families. The player is able to flirt with anyone (of either gender) and get married. The player may have protected or unprotected sex with NPCs of the opposite gender, which may result in a child. The child's looks will depend on those of his parents, and his attributes will be dependent on the player's actions and alignment. Female player characters may become pregnant.[5][3]

[edit] Death

In Fable 2, the player's character does not die upon defeat. Rather, he or she falls unconscious once he or she loses all of his or her health. The enemies will then injure the character while they are unconscious by beating, kicking or stabbing them, which will leave permanent scars. The new system of "death" is intended to simulate the humiliation of defeat, while sustaining scars will negatively affect NPCs attitudes toward the player. Molyneux stated during the E3 2007 combat demo that boss enemies will inflict major, disfiguring scars, which will have a major negative effect on NPC relationships.[6]

However, falling unconscious (said to last around 30 seconds according to Molyneux) can be avoided, if the player is willing to sacrifice one of 3 things: gold, reputation or experience gained.

[edit] Cutscenes

There will be no cutscenes in the game, apart from the beginning cutscene which lasts approximately 1 minute. Rather like pressing the Y button in Gears of War to focus in on a team mate, pressing a button during a major event in Fable 2 will focus in on the main point of interest.

[edit] Dynamic world

Molyneux has stated that his aim is to create a dynamic, changing world on a large scale. Since the game will take place over a hero's lifetime, many things will change; he gave an example of a trade camp the player could help or destroy that would later be a town or ruin. Trading in such camps would increase their profit, resulting in a small town growing around them, while stealing from the camp or massacring the camp will result in the abandonment of the area. Additionally, every property in the world is ownable by the player, often unlocking further content such as quests. Titles will be awarded for buying property, for instance, if you were to buy every building, and every piece of land in a town, you may become known as the mayor, king, and eventually emperor of the entire realm. [3][7]

It is also rumored that towns and villages from Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters have "grown up". One example is Bowerstone, which in Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters was the largest town, yet it was still quite a small town. It has been confirmed that it is in Fable 2 and is rumored to be a thriving city. The first published screenshot of the game is of Bowerstone.

It has also been confirmed that the Hero is from the slums of Bowerstone.

Uhh, let's see...

How about that thing about how it was supposed to be "the greatest RPG of all time" and simply ended up being a good action-adventure game?

Fable is a great game, but it's lead designer Peter Molyneux promised the most extreme things to happen in the game like having people start to rival you and real time tree and plant growth. Hopefully, he keeps his mouth shut during Fable 2's production.

The "greatest RPG ever" was 6-7 hours long, had a tiny world, no decent characters andoverly simple combat.

In short, it sucked. That is why it gets so much hate.

I have a 16 hour save file, it's one of my seven save files, all longer than 7 hours. You should use average times when talking game lengths, not "speed-run" times.

I liked the atmosphere in the early stages in the game, and the combat was decent too. For the rest the game was too simple though, and the plot was pretty weak. On most parts it doesn't stack up to the better RPG's I think. It's also too short for an RPG.

I'm using my time and it wasn't a speed run. Anyway 16 hours is still about 20 hourtoo short for an RPG. God ones like morrowind can last hundreds of hours.

I loved Fable on PC, I hope the 2nd one comes to PC at some point as well. Dunno why people would hate it, maybe the devs just promised too much and people got dissapointed, or maybe they think of it as a shallow RPG instead of the great Zelda type action adventure that it imo is.

Yes its decent and I prefer it on the XBOX too, it was just a huge disappointment compared to what Pet Molyneux hyped it to be. Too ambitious for its time, hopefully Fable 2 reaches its potential.

You're tapping one button the whole time you're engaged in combat. The atmosphere was not immersive at all, and most of the spells are pretty useless save for a few. You can become filthy rich and never have to worry about money for the rest of the game near the beginning of the quest, and all there is to really "choose" in the game is to be good or evil. So much potential just laid down on generic elements. If Fable 2 is anything like this, I can expect similar reception.

Fables atmosphere was pretty good, but the character development was awful.

It was a pretty good game overall, most people that hate it just haven't played it yet.

Nonsense. that's what Microsoft is doing with Halo 3, and it's working out fine. They just need to spend enough money on Fable 2 to tell gamers that they aren't men unless they buy it.

Fable had great everything, just horribly execution. It was, literally, trying to combine some of the greatest elements of everything into one game.

The story? Your cliche Hero story. Hell, I predicted the plot after I left the Hero Guild:

- Happy boy with a happy family living in a peaceful town. UNTIL BANDITS BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE, GOUGE OUT YOUR SISTERS EYES, AND KILLS YOUR ENTIRE TOWN. Queue cliche Hero that comes in, and takes you under his wing.

- Meet up with the head student at the Hero Guild. You quickly progress and show your power, head student sees this, you become rivals.

- Find out your sister is alive.

- Battle in the Arena, to which you defeat your rival for good. Do you kill her or let her go? The correct answer is who cares? It doesn't effect anything.

- Find out there is a Seer working with the bandits. You can use her to find your sister.

- Hero Guild gets destroyed or something. You are the best hope of the land.

- Find out your hero from the beginning is working with the Bandits.

- Find out your sister is the Seer with the bandits.

- Go in. Kick ass. Take names. Defeat the Bandit king and thrust Generic Blade of Flaming Doom into the fire or kill your sister with it. Right here you can go from 100% good to 100% evil. If you turn evil, give your city-load of cash to the good temple and become 100% good.

Wallah! That's the Fable storyline! Potential to be epic, but it had such bad execution it turned out just being meh. Still a very good solid AA-AAA rpg -- if you never looked into the hype.

Fable was an awesome game the combat was slow but was still good. The only thing I'm not liking about the new Fable is the time period it's set in i think it should of stayed with the first games time period

Man. Good thing I played the game without listening to the hype or I would have hated it too.

I liked Fable, I'll probably buy Fable 2 but not exactly a day one purchase for me.
