With warner pledging sole support for blu ray plus the fact that blu ray has been outselling hd dvd by a 3:1 margin its clear that its only a couple of months before toshiba and the hd dvd camp admit defeat.

How much of a boost will this be to ps3 sales??

I dont think there will a easy end to this as im sure MS will go all out with a HDDVD 360 before they admit defeat. One thing about MS is they are always willing to put there money where their mouth is

You people are talking like Microsoft controls HD-DVD, are we forgetting that Toshiba and the DVD authorial group are pushing HD-DVD as the successor to DVD.

Microsoft has only sided behind HD-DVD for Xbox because of their console rival to the PlayStation. It would have been odd for Microsoft to make a Blu-Ray add on for Xbox instead of HD-DVD, especially since the PS3 has Blu-Ray built-in.

I still will not purchase any high def format until their is a true standard. For now DVD rules, and the HD-upconverter players are still were to go to watch your DVDs in HD.

Well they sure as hell cant support a failing format. So I dont see how it could be far from the truth. Even though I do remember reading this somewhere like 5 months ago or so.

Well of course if blu ray won they would probably use it, but I just wanted to read when they said that.

Sadly it hasn't won. As long as HD-DVD gets any sales at all. It's still in. :( And since warner is only going to be exclusive starting may and Moneysoft will undoubtable continue supporting HD-DVD wether conditions worsen or not. I think blu-ray won't officially win till 2009 :(

I dont see blu ray winning just yet though. It will take some time. And since sony is practically handing them out (I got a free blu ray player with my panasonic plasma TV and 5 free blu ray movies). I can blu ray winning.

Even if Blueray did becoma the dominat format, I dont believe it would generally effect the PS3's sales. Sony has made the PS3 the cheapest Blueray player on the market right now, as an attempt to boost its sales. However, most people who just want the Blueray will probably not want to but the PS3. this idea could be completly false on my part, but I believe that if blueray becomes the dominant format that blueray players will "evolve" in ways that would make them seem more advanced than a normal player. So poeple may target an actual Blueray player rather than the Ps3 to gain optimal experince.

A $200 Blu-ray player from Sony is almost a guarentee this year.

Well once they start pumping out Blu-rays like dvd's did when they finally took over VHS I'll be happy to get a PS3. If they're the same price in the future then why not? I'm pretty sure at Sony the PS3 is the cheapest blu-ray they have.

Ideally i would like dvd's to hold out an extra 8 years or so. I'm going to find it very annoying when every few years my movie collection gets replaced by the EVEN greater blu-ray version, and then in 10 years the Platnium-ray version.
