Vgcharts tracked both when they each reached 9 million. NPD has PS3 total sales at 2.56 million in USA while vgcharts has it at 3.84 million for NA. I'd say they are doing pretty good if you ask me considering they add Cananda and Mexico totals to their numbers.

ps3 would have to sell in the 100k's more a month to catch the 360. Even if the 360 were to sell less than the ps3, it would still be adding to a sizeable lead.

You have to think that 360's are just going to stop selling completely to think it will pass the 360 this year. It could do it maybe around 2009, but there's so much uncertainty, and the holidays, and blah blah blah, any predictions on "Sony to overtake 360," or "360 to overtake Wii," is just baseless speculation.

Except with the exception of Ratchet the titles you mentioned were all new IPs. The titles he mentioned are gauranteed million/sytem sellers.

well when you sell out every month, at average 500k a month sales, yeah, your going to catch up. Unfourtunately the PS3 hasn't done that and needed the holiday season to even break 500k.

The 360 was steady at 200k while the ps3 had to claw out of 80k land, to even beat the GBA.

So what makes you think that over the next 5 months, the 360 is going to stall, and not sell a single unit, while the ps3 starts selling like the wii?

That's true, considering that the PS3 was coming off the hotest console of all time. It has only been able to keep up with the 360. That's sad! What's even more sad is that FAnboys got ripped off when they bought the PS3 last year, when it's so much cheaper now. If I was a PS3 fanboy, i definitely would not make threads that has the PS3 barely keeping up with the 360...With the name it should have blown by it, I guess people really do want great games.

I'm not that dumb to assume that new IPs that doesn't appeal to the mass would do that to a new console even if it's a PS.

If you don't think those will make PS3 sell more then you don't know much about how things work.

Just watch how people will start getting their PS3 when those games come out, especially in Japan and Europe.

Well it is already happening. Look at sales from a worldwide perspective and not just the USA. Also I will wait for Sony to announce their numbers before I remove my signature.

To many variables to really predict what will happen, but once a handful of things happen on all three consoles, the predictions become clearer.

*All three Consoles at or under $199.

*Wide variety of Good/Great Games at discounted prices(Greatest Hits) on all three consoles.

*All Three consoles with a level playing field of system sellers ( Probably holiday 2008 )

Alot of people seem to forget about software sales in favor of hardware on this forum as well, when trying to predict a clear victor this early in the generation.

Why then the PS2 sales went from 19million to 29million in less than 5 months after MGS2 and FF10 came out? MGS2 sold 600k at launch(close to 6million overall) and FF10 over 2million(close to 8million overall).

And don't mention GTA 3 cause it only sold 300k in its first 6months, around 130k when it launched.

MGS is a system seller, but is it going to be to the degree of halo? I mean Halo single handedly made the 360, beat the Wii in september, Im not sure if MGS can do that, but you never know.

Check those totals again.. PS3 has 6 million sellers 4 of them third party games. It also has 12 games that have sold over 500k units.
