I been seeing all these thread about how Halo3 beta is weak, and nothing special. Though I find myself saying what is so special about Halo3, its just about mindless shooter. But anywho, ever since the MS, started hyping the term "BETA", I been seeing these sony kids are starting to use the phrase "Beta". For instance, "Sign up for the Warhawk Beta", or "there is gonna be a playable Beta version of Killzone at E3!" or "uncharted, will there be a beta version to download soon?" I mean doesnt Beta really mean "DEMO"? Well at least MS did come up with something unique in naming their demos ,Beta. Man I cant wait for the Beta version of Super smash bros. Brawl!!!!!!!!!!!THE_PREZIDENTUse wikiapedia please, Halo 3 beta is called Halo 3 beat because its running on a beta engine. Now dont we all feel smrt.

The term beta is not new, nor does it mean "demo". A beta version can be put out as a demo, but they do not need to be the same thing.

MS didnt come up with the Beta phase in game development... Its a stage in development where for most developers you have finally come out of idea development (alpha stage) and starting to add in all the gameplay aspects along with some but possibly not all the textures or models of the final game. So no its not just a demo, its a stage in game development where the game is not totally complete and many things can change anywhere from graphics to even totally redefining the gameplay.Â

Since when has beta been a new word? Beta means that the core of the game is intact &Â they want user feedback so that they can make minor changes to the game before release if necassary.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but how about you learn how to use Wikipedia? Halo 3 at this point is called "Halo 3 beta" because software development has stages, each of these stages have different names such as Alpha where new features are added to the software, then there is the beta stage where it is in the debug stage (debug is going through the code step by step, jumping in and out of functions, tracing variables, etc) and stable state where most of bugs have been eliminated. Right now Halo 3 is in the debug phase thus earning it the beta title.
...and they now have an easy way to get a product in the beta phase to a large number of people.mmmm windows live beta, microsoft antispyware beta, every software goes through beta.
but well... sony developers liked the idea of halo's beta testing and decided to start hyping their own
cabjnico
...a product in the beta phase means that it is close to the final release that consumers will see. Usually about 90% complete or so.
I know, but Im just saying, sony developers liked the term, they probably saw how sucessful it was for MS in using it in Halo, probably if MS would'nt have used the term then sony would have used it.MS didnt come up with the Beta phase in game development... How sucessful the word was for MS? The word isnt for them to be sucessful or not its for them to state what stage in development the game is, just like when a developer declares they are going gold. Going gold doesnt suddnely make the game popular, that just lets everyone know the game is finished and being preped to go to the mass producers.Â
Crysis is in alpha stages. Does that make you happy?Killfox
No, it makes me want to cut myself because I don't have enough money to build a beastly computer to run the damn thing..... :|
