I really doubt the wii sales are going to increase._Cadbury_
Oh, they'll increase, I just doubt it'll be the second coming of Wii-Mania 2007.
The people who really wanted a Wii probably have already got one.
jakehouston88
If that was true, the Wii still wouldn't be the highest selling console in NA. :?
Yes, it will be easier for grandma and grandpa to get a Wii now that it's cheaper then a month of Depends....
I really doubt the wii sales are going to increase._Cadbury_
Yeah, they will increase. Enough at least to be competitive and probabally still win in sales. I mean the average person is still going to see Wii $199 and say that is a nice gift and a better price. Unfortunately the average customer doesn't care about hardcore games.
TC, what are you basing this off of? As for the person who said they don't think sales will increase. Don't be silly.
ActicEdge
I just think the TC like other Wii bashers just don't want to face the fact that the Wii is a sales monster no matter what they think of it's game library. Now even though I don't care for the Wii library I'm not that blind to think it won't still win with this price cut. Hey at least the PS3 had one great month.
just like with the other systmsThe people who really wanted a Wii probably have already got one.
It's only a $50 price drop...

Well not totally true as the PS3 was really high for the average customer so now that they dropped it there is a big pool of people who want it because it is affordable now. The Xbox with the arcade and the Wii have been affordable to the masses for awhile.

its not hard to come up with an extra 100 bucks, if people saw the ps3 as having much more worth it would have outsold the wii regardless of the price. a 25% decrease in price is not going to change a product from being "really high for the average customer" to "affordable now" systems always see a small increase in sales after a price drop and/or a new SKU is released.[QUOTE="3rdbass"][QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] just like with the other systmssurrealnumber5

Trust me the average consumers were holding off from buying the PS3 as they have a price they will pay and $299 was a big point for a lot of PS3 users. Trust me the PS3 will not be lagging in 3rd unless the Xbox decides to do another price cut. There were a lot of PS2 users that were waiting for the PS3 to get to their level and plus the PS3 is just starting to get to the respectable level of games to warrant a purchase. The PS3 will continue to sell well now trust me.

i am not going to trust what your are saying when i can just look at market data to draw a clearer and more accurate depiction of consumer behavior[QUOTE="3rdbass"][QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] its not hard to come up with an extra 100 bucks, if people saw the ps3 as having much more worth it would have outsold the wii regardless of the price. a 25% decrease in price is not going to change a product from being "really high for the average customer" to "affordable now" systems always see a small increase in sales after a price drop and/or a new SKU is released. surrealnumber5

i am not going to trust what your are saying when i can just look at market data to draw a clearer and more accurate depiction of consumer behaviorOk I'm doing the same and this price drop is having a bigger impact than the last PS3 price drop. Let's just agree to disagree. This is about the Wii anyhow and I'm sure it will remain #1 with this price drop. They realized there was no need to drop it $100 and cut more into their profit when the $50 cut would acheive the unit sales they need.
At home caring about things that matter.

I lol'd
but yeah im not too sure if a 50$ price drop is enough to really dramatically effect things. I think it would have been big if it dropped to 150$ though
 LMAO  seriously a $50 price drop after the system being out for 3 years is NOT going to bring in any more than probably another million buyers.........but next spring at best. everyone thats wanted a wii already has one and the people who dont, im sure 50bucks isnt really going to be a deciding factor in getting it. a smarter approach would be to package a game in with the system. mario galaxy, twilight princess or metroit prime maybe. and drop the price to 200 or MAYBE keep it at 250......but then again the latter would be a phail approach to also.At home caring about things that matter.

It's only a $50 price drop...
just like with the other systms PS3 dropped by 300bucks and the 360 dropped by 100-200 bucks(depending on which one you get) so no, not like the other systems which are now finally affordable to those who didnt have one. the wii however has always been in that sweet spot.....im sure you can figure out how it goes from here....The people who really wanted a Wii probably have already got one.

It's funny how an extra $100 didn't matter earlier, but now it does?

not really, price drops from how i see it, only highlights the demand for a product. if the demand was never that great a price drop will not bring demand up for the long term. at least that is my theory[QUOTE="slvrraven9"][QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] up? like it did for the ps2?surrealnumber5? explain? the ps2 sold more at 200 and below then it did above the ps2 also had virtualy no cometition. please dont say the xbox because although it did have decent sales...its like comparing a studio apartment to bill gates mansion

who said it didnt matter? from 299 to 199 is enough to make a console get a second look. from 249-199, meh.....I dont think anyone cares about a $50 price drop on the Wii.
Videodogg
Get back to us on that when the Wii kills the sales chart through X-mas for the 3rd straight year. lol. People simply fail to realize how big a $50 sales drop and a 2-D mario near the same time really is. Nothing sales wise will possibly hope to compete with that. Oh wait psp go is comming out! lol (epic fail Sony)
