I see all these threads with people getting excited that the PS3 is starting to finally sell at levels above the Gamecube, and well... lets just say it gives me a chuckle.

Who cares if the PS3 sold at a comparable rate to the 360 in its first year? How is that anything short of an abysmal failure? PS2 dominated software and outsold the GC and original Xbox at a rate of 6:1 respectively... while the PS3 is in last place, millions of units behind, has 0 AAA exclusives, and well... it will be extremely lucky to pass the 360 this gen... and its beyond delusional to think it will ever catch the Wii considering its been sold out since its release and SSBB and WiiFit havent even surfaced yet.

It took the PS2 almost two years to really take off. PS3 is looking to follow in its footsteps.

Here's the biggest one for MS. Everyone knows that the 360 was in limited supply for HALF of it's first year.

Sony was the unstoppable force. Doing "as much as MS did (with shortages)" is failing on Sony's part.

(and they still just sold about the same as MS did in the same period their first year.)

Now lets assume that the main reason people are buying the PS3 is for blu-ray (as im sure is true for a reasonable number of people). Logically speaking, you dont expect me to believe that these people, with a PS3, will use it as nothing more than a Blu-Ray player, even though it has the capability to play games. Im sure they will rent a game just to check it out, and eventually end up buying sum. Need proof? Look at the PS2. Why do u think it sold so well over the years? yes, we should be impressed that a console with a launch price tag of USD$600, no games for a long time, and lacking features is on it's way to 2nd place.

yet... it's totally understandable, since all those issues are taken care of (now there are games, and more coming, lots of features, and more coming, and the price is USD$400 and going down...)

I was asking a question and giving 2 possible answers. I really dont believe that people are buying the PS3 primarily as a blu-ray player although I'm sure that is a factor in many purchases. PS3 possibly finishing in 2nd place is impressive. The PS3 has...

1. A horrible library of games and worse multiplats than 360.

2. Has far worse online than 360.

3. Doesn't have killer aps out yet like 360.

4. Doesn't have a game that has sold even remotely close to the fastest selling game of all time (Halo 3).

5. Has a worse controller.

6. Sony has had far worse ads for PS3 than 360.

7. Sony has broken several promises to gamers.

8. PS3 was far more expensive than 360 for the 1st year.

All this...and PS3 just outsold the 360 for the month of January and sales are picking up rapidly. It is on track to beat 360 for the entire console gen. What are lemmings going to do now? :lol:

The ps2, in its first year killed the sega DC and sold nearly 13 million units and its been gaining ground ever since(lost a little momentum when the GC and xbox launched, but regained it soon after), and stop dreaming the PS3 will never be like the PS2, as it never surpase the wii, let alone the 360.

First of all, it isn't ANY companies job to impress you with their actions. If you are sitting around hoping to be impressed, then I would say you should seriously get over yourself.

Second, do you really expect a console that launched at $499/$599 to sell comparable to a console that launched at $299?

Third, the fact that the PS3 launched at $499/$599 and supposedly had zero games (even still according to lemmings), and still sold roughly equal (and outsolf head to head in 2007) to a $399 console with more games and arguably BETTER games...well, that should say something about the support out there for the PS brand. I think that is a clear sign that many people are still playing their PS2 and waiting for the PS3 to drop a little more and are mostly overlooking the 360 altogether.

Damage control mania. All hands on deck. The lemming boat is flooding and its only 1/5th the way into the battle.
