You know we only make up a very very small % of gamers on this forum. There are the whole rest of the world that plays games and NEVER goes on forums like these.

So what do scores really mean? Just because R&C got a 7.5 on this site doesnt mean its not gonna sell a million or more copies. So who cares if a game gets a AAA or AA?

The only reason it matters here is for others to say "it failed,flopped"...

To me even though GOW got good reviews and is a hit with people doesnt make me like it. It was my sole reason for getting a 360 at launch. I had to have GOW when it came out...Well I beat it quickly...It was quite boring to me...and the camera angle was the worst ever as that game hurts my eyes to even play...So is it as good as GS says?....Not for me.

So reviews, and scores acually mean nothing in real world use....

That is true, but thousands of people judge games by their reviews and i'm not sure but a very large portion of feeback comes from word of mouth, so it can infact be told to millions of people based on the one review.

This is what I really hate. When a game gets a low score you always get "Reviews dont matter" mentallity.

They do, a lot of games do not have a demo and you might not have a friend who owns the game so you can't try it out at their place. How do you know what you are buying and that you ain't wasting money? Reviews of course, I would rather read reviews before I purchase a game than just randomly throw my money at any random game in a shop.

EDIT: Not only that, but according to GS it is still a good game (R&C)

For me, reviews dont matter too much. If a game looks interesting, then I buy, if not...I dont....Im one of the very few who loved Brute Force for Xbox. I had to have it as soon as it came out...LOVED IT...Great game, but many people dogged it cause it was hyped as a Halo killer.

I think reviews are great for giving you the inside of a game. They can be great information. But to base buying a system or a game off of someone elses thought?...That isnt for me and never will be as everyone has a difference in opinions.

Games are rated the same reasons movies, books (etc.) have critics. Believe it or not these games aren't rated just to appease us "hardcore" gamers, or forum goers. It looks good on your resume; also makes for quite the ad campaign.

In the real world, nothing.

IN SW, it appears to be a life or death situation.

I think the reviews affect many people when buying games, especially the more casual gamers. And Gamespot is one of the biggest game sites (if not the biggest?) so some people wont bother to look anywhere else but here. Even if it's a single score, it could have impact on sales.

Hell, even I get affected. I was going to buy a PSP game for my cousin for his birthday, and since I don't know much about the PSP the first thing I looked at was gamespot for highest scores..

Reviews are references for people that want to know whether or not a game is good. You can say what you want, but it does affect (however small portion) sales. If people go to see how well a game scored, and see a 7.5, they might be inclined not to buy it, because it's not good enough. of course, this isn't the case with everybody, so you can't generalize about things like this.

If your talking about salesI would say a bit but there definately not necessarily. You just have to look at consatnt rubbish EA release year in year out but there still havemassive successes as far as sales are concerned. With as far as the quality of the game is concered well again still take the reviewswith a pinch of salt and use and see what itsaverageing at gamerankings.

Definately dont buy into this idotic systems warsnotion that its only the gamespot review that matters. However even if a game got good reviews across the board still dont assume your ll like it. Example in my case was Eldar Scrolls Oblivon got amazing reviews from practically everyone but i absolutly couldnt stand it. More fool me really just bywatching some of the videos on it i hada feeling that i wouldntlike it. But like a chump i went out bought it becuase everyone elese was saying it was amazing.

Which leads me to next point i reckon aside from playing the game the best way to see if you will it or not is to watch videos of it on various websites. Buy doing that you cut out all hype and bumwash surrounding the game and make your own oppinion of it and you get idea of what the game is like
