Part of my job is to have an in-depth knowledge of analytics, and i've been closely following several data points (no, not polls) to help gather an idea as to what console/device will lead the next generation.

To start, you have to understand that right now, there is no more powerful of a measuring tool than social media.  Gametrailers has an amazing program they use that cumulates the amount of tweets and mentions all of the consoles get in a 24 hour period. PS4 has been dominating that amount by 2x-3x the amount of MS. Yes, this is after the 180.

Looking at sites that do offer some insight as to their preorder numbers, its pretty clear that Sony also has an advantage as well. Again, this makes sense; It's a cheaper system - the cost of a PS4 and one of the actual big games of this holiday season (the launch exclusives aren't that big of a deal, really) is less than the cost of an Xbox One by itself.

So, where does that leave us? Honestly, this is going to come down to exclusive first party games that come out between the 12-24 month period of the consoles. If MS gets some solid exclusives in that window, with a price drop due to a hardware redesign, they may be able to catch up or surpass the PS4 on an international level. They'd have to be REALLY solid titles, but since MS didn't inheret any solid pipelines between the generatioins, it may take longer than that to get some great exclusive content on their machine.

TL;DR - Here's the breakdown: PS4 (between 80-100 mil total) X1(50-80 mil total) Wii U (30 - 60 Mil) 3DS (80-100 Mil)
