So what if the Wii has shovelware titles?

As an informed consumer, someone who frequents a site like GameSpot, how on Earth does shovelware affect you? If you don't buy bad PS3 or 360 games, why would you buy bad Wii games? Using shovelware as an example as for why you dislike the Wii is ridiculous, because you'll never spend money on these titles anyway. A few good titles is far, far more important than a bunch of bad ones, and with the most AAAE titles so far this generation, there's absolutely no reason to care about the shovelware.

and?

when bad games come out do you have to buy them? does the fact that there are so many bad movies out there mean we shouldn't watch films?

It just gives the library of games a bad image, if that makes sense.

When you look through a shelf and see all the bad, you think 'wow, whats with all this crap'

Hell, i know the Wii has a ton of good games, i own about 20 of them, but its still depressing to see all of them.

Yeah, shovelware is probably the weakest arguement used against any system. You dont have to buy it, or even play it, so whats the big deal?

Yeah, I made a thread like this and it pretty much came down to it looks bad for your system.

I don't understand how shovelware affects you if you don't buy it, and there are still AAA titles for the system.

It's damage control, plain and simple.

Haters are running out of things to hate so they are reaching into the bottom of the barrel.

We know it doesn't matter, they know it doesn't matter (They won't admit it though), we all know it doesn't matter. Just forget about it and let the haters hate.

That really isnt the point weather we buy them or we don't. It's the fact that Wii has so many of them and less of all the other games that are worth a damn. It should be the other way around, less shovelware, more quality games. But these non gamer casuals like the shovelware crap, so there really is no getting out of it. :| Nintendo has made a system that appeal to people that like crap games.

Sure, ideally there wouldn't be poorly received games. It's just like how Hollywood shouldn't make some terrible movies and how Paris Hilton shouldn't be allowed to record a pop album. Despite the bad examples, there are pleanty of great ones so we don't even have to watch bad movies or listen to Paris Hilton singles unless we so choose to. That's why having the most AAAE titles is so much more good than having the most shovelware titles is bad. You're given the option to play great games. If you were a true video game enthusiast, you would totally ignore the shovelware games and purchase the true gems. Assuming people who argue on System Wars are video game enthusiasts, they should be expected to appreciate the AAA titles released and be completely apathetic towards poorly received games.

Every single system ever made has more bad games than good games.

What I don't understand is why people actually think it sells. If you look at all 21 games that have sold over 1 million, only one could be argued as shovelware, and thats Carnival Games. But for all I know, it could be a pretty good game.

And even the 360 has a million seller game that could be considered shovelware, Uno(XBLA).

The NES was *the* shovel-ware system, and it's still going down in history as being the system that saved console gaming, and the favourite system of many, many people. The quality of a line up is dictated in the number of purchasable games, not in the number of games that no one will buy.

carnival games had a big ad campaign, i still see comercials for it. That probably contributed alot to sales. Advertise anything and its bound to sell if you've got the right appeal for the right market.

Carnival Games isn't a true shovelware title. It's just a mini-game compilations, and a mediocre game. It's nothing particularly bad. It was made by Take-Two, and they aren't producing any of the shovelware available.

Dude, I'm not saying all Def Jam games. Hell, I own and still have the first 2. But Icon is some garbage. It took a great series and literally F*** it up sideways and backwards. I was really looking forward to playing that game, and so far its the first game that I ever returned back to the store the same day.

Much aside, I was stating that developers trying to make a quick buck is going to make half-azzed game. No shiny, bright coat of paint will ever shake the horror I've experienced with Icon. What I am tired of is these lame fanboys trying to point out garbage games when their system swims in it also. There is reason why the Wii have the most.........take a guess? I'm pretty sure you tired of hearing it now.

People do realize that pretty much all of the Wii shovelware are Wii/PS2 multiplats right?

If people think shovelware on the Wii is bad then I could only imagine the PS2. The PS2 had a total of what? Less then 500 AAA's, AA's, and maybe even A's? And had over 5,000 games total for it?

this is probably off topic but my brother just bought the wii along with pro evolution soccer. im suprised to say that it is actually very good, the controls are great and innovative and intuitive. its a lot more fun than the other versions. but the graphics are pretty bad, worse than the ps2s version suprisingly. i think the wii is kinda overpriced for what it is.

Oh ok. Sorry. I thought you were one of thoses people that look crap at the series only cuz it's hip hop related. But yeah the third one flopped hard. No blazin moves, two players max, health bar?????? What have they done? I'm extremely desapointed also. The soundtrack is worse also.

It isn't so much that we have a choice to buy it or not. It has more to do with the fact that these uninformed consumers share the same choice and DO choose to buy shovelware. When this happens developers figure that they can continue recycling the same old trash, not making an effort to deliver quality games, and still turn a good sized profit. The result is gamers getting stuck with large gaming droughts, very few quality titles, and a console collecting dust. The same cannot be said for the PS3 and 360 where developers have to really push themselves to compete for consumers hard earned cash.

i think they had issues with aki, the guys that made the first two defjams, which can be seen by its combat system. then ea switched over to ea chicago, the guys that made the fight night games, they totally ruined it, after a while ea chicago shut down.

So you admit that the PS2 had tons of shovel ware.

Opposite for the Wii.Sonick54

1 out of 10 (if not more) games on the PS2 were shovelware. This isn't that much different then the Wii and is probably a worse ratio.
