[QUOTE="Some-Mist"]In a sense, he's correct. However, the core gameplay is menu/turn based. You don't control your characters movements and you don't manually attack, but you assign their attacks as you would in other traditional RPGs. It doesn't play out as an action title, but it's about as linear as one.IronBass
Turn based attacks is not what makes a game more RPGish than other. It's just a gameplay mechanic, oposed to real time. That's how ActionRPGs were born, for not using that mechanic.but I didn't claim FFXIII as an action rpg. I call it an rpg. You're calling it an action / adventure title. I'm not claiming one game has more rpg elements than another, I'm saying that FFXIII is classified as an rpg, whereas Mass Effect is considered a action/rpg hybrid. It's not a hard concept to grasp.
if it helps you any, gamespot has these following genres listed
Mass Effect 2: Action/RPG
Final Fantasy XIII: RPG
I always thought a traditional rpg was a combination of the story, gameplay (whether it's turn-based, action-turn based or whatever), and exploration. I'm not talking about action-rpgs, or strategy-rpgs. I'm talking about traditional dungeon crawling rpgs along the lines of final fantasy, xenogears, shin megami tensei games, and the chrono games.
Although I never mentioned which game is more RPG-ish, I would say the game labeled RPG as opposed to Action/RPG would have more RPG elements in it. Just sayin.
