Fellow brethren, help a System Warrior out.

I really want to get into Fire Emblem as I think this series was made for me. Or, in other words, I was born to play it and love it.

However with first 6 or so titles unavailable in English (at least not officially), I'm not really sure what's the best place to start. I don't own a DS anymore, so I'd have to start with something emulated anyway.

So, what are the best Fire Emblem games in your opinion? How would you compare it to other SRPG games? And where would you rank it when it comes to significant games from Japan?

I haven't played them all, but my favorite is Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn. Just play through Path of Radiance first and put in Radiant Dawn right after, putting your memory card into the Wii.

This is weird; an anti weeboo guy is asking for a weeboo game.

Awakening is actually a really good place to start. It is easier than most of the other games, and it allows you to turn off permadeath, making it more accessible. I would strongly advise you to never turn off permadeath, though, even if you are struggling. Permadeath is half of the fun of the series.

FireEmblem is hardly a weeaboo game to me. I know some of these games are very dark in subject matter actually.

My favorite is Path of Radiance but if you're resorting to emulation I suppose you'd be better off with one of the GBA titles(of which either would be a good pick, go with Sacred Stones if you want to start with an easier one).

@Salt_The_Fries: Lots of Weeaboo stuff is dark in subject matter, it's not all schoolgirls and melodrama.

Fire Emblem is absolutely a weeaboo series. It's about teenage warriors and drawn like anime. It's built around melodrama and RPG mechanics.

And that's totally fine because the games are fantastic. Hating "weeaboo" stuff just cuts you off from a lot of really great games.

Awakening is a great place to start. It's a fantastic introduction to the ideas of it.

Either that or the GBA games. The GBA games are mechanically more demanding anyways.

If you're just trying to explore interesting JRPGs in general, and if you have a way to play PS2 games, I'd reccomend Persona 3: FES and Persona 4, if you haven't already played those.

@Salt_The_Fries: Fire Emblem: Awakening is the best place to start there and I will say it was by far the best for me to get into Fire Emblem series and Awakening is on Gameboy Advance.

I'm more into SRPGs when it comes to home consoles, although I can tolerate (and enjoy) contemporary JRPGs on handhelds.

The GBA games would be ideal to start. Them or Awakening.

You don't deserve to play Fire Emblem. It's for weeaboos only.

Fire Emblem 7 (Blazing sword). My favorite one, has an easy tutorial too at the start to get you into it but still offers plenty of challenge later on.

Path of Radiance is a close second though.

Played all of the games released outside of Japan. Path of Radiance is my favorite of them all.

The GBA trilogy and Path of Radiance.

Don't bother with Awakening (IMO) cause it's just waifu garbage that can be broken entirely once you hit chapter 4.

I would go with Awakening and then play the others on eShop, they can get pricey trying to find the physical copies.

The GBA ones are the best ones to start with. After that I would say Awakening. Once you get the feel for it than go for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn since those IMO are the hardest ones.

The first one released outside Japan called simply Fire Emblem (it's the 7th entry in the series, Fire Emblem 7: Rekka no Ken/Blazing Sword) on the GBA is the best place to start with the Fire Emblem series. It was designed for newcomers, with an extensive tutorial to cover you about the general mechanics of the series. It's also a fantastic game with great sprite work, a memorable cast of characters and a good plot to get invested in.

After you've completed Fire Emblem 7, go with Path of Radiance (Gamecube) & Radiant Dawn. Radiant Dawn is the best in the series, by far, but the story of it is a direct continuation from Path of Radiance, so you must complete that one before jumping into Radiant Dawn to appreciate the characters and the plot. I jumped straight into Radiant Dawn and i loved every second of it, but only after completing Path of Radiance as well did i realize what a fucking amazing duology this is. They should be viewed as one game and played as such.

They're not only the best in the series, but they're also one of the best video games ever made.

That should get you started. After that, just flip a coin and make a choice. The rest of them (localized games) are good games (except for the DS remake called "Shadow Dragon", stay away from that piece of shit), but they're not even in the same ballpark as Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn.
