[QUOTE="xxThyLordxx"]I dislike anything mario. and yes I have played both n64 and the gamecube version, I find the game crap, but my younger brother loves the game to death, this will probably be the game that will make me buy a Wii(for my kid brother).Rahnyc4

and what did mario do to you, to dislike him, and whats your age. i find that its the kids that grew up in the ps1 generation, who dislike mario.

Not true, I grew up with Nintendo and I'm pretty sick of the little plumber myself.

Smash Bros. is an outstanding series, no fighting game has as much length or unlockable content than Melee from my experience. It's really, in my opinion, awesome as well for the fact that 4 people can play and it has an awesome selection of characters. Only crap thing about it is when you characters with clone moves (eg- Captain Falcon and Ganondorf etc).

You sure about that? Marvel V. Capcom 2 had an insane amount of unlockables.

Well I have played the original Smash Bros on the N64, I honestly didn't see anything that exceptional about it but it was pretty fun nonetheless.

dude, I've been gaming for 17 years. I've never been a fan of mario, the only mario games I liked were Super Mario Land 3 on the original Gameboy and Super Mario World on SNES.

The Smash Bros. series isn't on my list of all-time favorites, but it is a lot of fun to play with friends.  I'm actually surprised I don't have a copy of Melee, but my N64 original was definitely used quite a bit over the years.

It seems like a vast waste of developer resources just to regurgitate fan favorites in a massive sell-out to cater to the lowest levels of customer demand.FoamingPanda

Well that's your opinion, but many find the concept of having your favorite Nintendo characters square off in a battle of video game supremacy to be pure genius.

Too bad, it's quite fun!

Too bad we can't have more cross-platform type battles like with Snake.

I don't know. It seems like a vast waste of developer resources just to regurgitate fan favorites in a massive sell-out to cater to the lowest levels of customer demand.

Think what Nintendo could do if they devoted those resources to creating a new game (independent of any franchise) -- we might actually be playing a first-party Nintendo game that isn't followed by a number greater than 3!

Um there are only two Super Smash games with the third coming out. That's one Smash game a gen, and yes that isn't a number greater then 3 until Nintendo's next console. Then you can complain.

Wow that sucks. Mario 64 was amazing, New Super Mario Brothers is amazing, the three Paper Mario's are amazing, not to mention some of the spin offs like Mario Kart, Tennis, and Golf. Oh yeah and then there is the NES ones and Super Mario World. Ouch that sucks to dislike "Anthing" Mario. Even the biggest Nintendo haters used to like Mario.

3 was an arbitrary number. I think his point was Nintendo makes too many sequels. I disagree with him though.

The people here who don't like the game probably played it a few times and couldn't figure out the moves. So they sucked, hence the game sucks. I played Melee to death when I was in the Air Force. I'd come home from work, break out the Cube into the dayroom and hook up four controllers, crack open a beer and start playing. Within an hour we'd have four ppl playing and a handful others standing around watching. *sigh* Probably the high point of multiplayer gaming in my life, and I'd be surprised if it reached that point again.

I've played many of the most popular, top rated & hyped games for quite awhile (may not have owned them, but i've played most someway or another), & I can honestly say the SSB series has offered the most "raw" fun from any game i've ever experienced. The gameplay never gets old. SSM:B will offer online matches aswell.

As long as it doesnt stray to far from the melee formula, & the character line-up is as good, if not better then Melee, then this will get AAA for sure.  I just pray it stays the fast paced, party fighter it has been so far. To tell you the truth, I would really love to see a Melee rehash. Better graphics, more characters & online matches, as long as the gameplay stays the same.

And you really cant compare SSB to other fighters, as it is entirely different.

I prefer the Tales of series... over Smash Brothers.  Customizable characters and a coherent plotline give credit to the gameplay of the Tales of series.  Part of me wonders how much Smash would be loved without any of its guest characters.  Of course, there isn't much going for nintendo systems.  I've owned the first two consoles and the gameboy, but I don't really see how the analog stick has improved the fighting genre.

Hooray for broad generalizations!

Don't give Smash Bros. too much credit, no other fighting game has an easier way to pull off moves. Anyone can figure it out.

I didn't call him crap. I said his appeal has been lost on me. I gave him plenty of years where I saw his face and HAD to play the game.  Now I just shrug my shoulders and wonder if he'll ever get a vacation from Nintendo.

Who mentioned guns, boobs, and blood? Me thinks you are talking to someone else.

I like SSBM, and I liked SSB, but SSB is far, FAR from the greatest fighting game series ever made. It is one of the most fun, yes, but Virtua Fighter is THE greatest fighting series ever made. Sure you can say other fighting franchises have tried to stand up to Virtua Fighter, but only ended up finding a niche (Mortal Kombat, anyone?). Even though those games that did find their niche might have been old by the time Virtua Fighter came out, it was VF that revolutionized the 3D fighter.

Ok, you CAN say that Street Fighter 2 revolutionized the 2D fighter, and I would agree. But put Street Fighter into 3D and it will suck, just like VF will suck if you put it into 2D, as its heritage is of a very complex and realistic fighting series. Sure, it might not be the most fun (Heck, I was bored to death of VF 4 X_X), but you have to say that for a game that aspires to be a TRUE fighting game, it does the best job of doing it.

But getting back to SSB, that game is a lot of fun, and it can be a blast with four players at one time, and is certainly a great fighting franchise.

dislike smash bros? Blasphemy!buuzer0

I agree! We need to start utilizing this word, blasphemy, more often. Because Gaming is like religion.....except being ruled by stupidity, greed and evil (well maybe the publishers fit that bill...) its ruled by the gaming gods of logic, gameplay, dynamics, innovation, intelligence and entertainment (not just lowest common denominator.).  So to say that one "dislikes" smash brothers would defenitly be blasphemy unto the gaming gods!

Now bow and worship before the alter of t3h gaming! Make a sacrifice unto the gaming gods and rejoice! The streets shall run red with the blood of the unbelievers!

then you never really figured out how to play the game. Because it isnt just a party game. it is very technical and very hard to get good at. its not just about mashing out combos, Its about timing, finess, and inventiveness. making your own combo on the fly seems like it would be harder than memorizing a combo. but thats just me.

exactly. Thank you for illustrating the difference.

When it comes to fighting the only game that allows you to read your opponnent is SSB; in most other games you just have to hit when the opponnent is not attacking and then initiate your combo, then they get a turn or you continue to pummel them. So the game is about who can remember the most string of button presses and succesffully utilize them. But in SSB its all about skill, not memorization, and knowing how your opponnent moves accounts for alot. Thats why its fun to play with players of all skill levels because they can, for at least a little while, hold their own until you are able to anticipate their method of attack (or lack therof) and employ a correct strategy.

I could go on and on but needless to say i think that SSB is leagues above any other fighting game; its simply more involved and requires more cognitive engagement than that of most traditional fighters.

Certainly a minority. A minority I'm no part of. SSB is an awesome series, was great fun on the N64, awesome on the GC, and will hopefully be just as great, if not even better on the Wii. It's a series that both hardcore gamers and casuals can enjoy, and few multiplayer games are as great with 4 people, in my opinion. Me and my friends coined so many insults playing Melee :D

Anyway I can only see fanboys hating this game. Its in the EVO and MLG leagues...so yeah. Its up there with street fighter and tekken. Once you learn advanced techs (just like SF) than its like playing a whole 'nother game.

[QUOTE="Rahnyc4"][QUOTE="xxThyLordxx"]I dislike anything mario. and yes I have played both n64 and the gamecube version, I find the game crap, but my younger brother loves the game to death, this will probably be the game that will make me buy a Wii(for my kid brother).Bread_or_Decide

samus would whipe the flor with that lame.. i rather see snake get beach slap by mario though :-D

and what did mario do to you, to dislike him, and whats your age. i find that its the kids that grew up in the ps1 generation, who dislike mario.

Not true, I grew up with Nintendo and I'm pretty sick of the little plumber myself.

That's a reason to like the game, not dislike it. There's over twenty other characters in the game you can use to beat him up.

I would love to see Snake kick all their butts. Man I'd pay to watch that.

I love Smash bros, but a lot of haters believe its more of a mindless party games!!! SSB on the 64 to me felt more like a party game than Melee!!!

Melee felt more in depth with more characters and bigger (and also suicidal small) levels. Plus the physics of jumping was a big change between both games which made it more exciting and the increasement of items!!!! I feel that you needed more skills to play Melee than what you did on the original 64 Smash Bros.

I can't wait for Brawl and the online mode!!!!!!!!!

looks like theres not much hate for smash bros series on this site. i think i count about 5 people or so who disliked tha game, and im gonna assume they only dislike the game, cause they refuse to play nintendo games. its basically the fanboy in them.

I Love the smash bros series.

on the outside it's accessible and easy to get into...but on the inside you'll find a great layer of depth.

If you can't find that layer of depth....you'll get you ass handed to you

[QUOTE="FoamingPanda"]I've personally never found much pleasure in mindlessly tapping buttons in ways that guide various marketing icons around a small map so that they might bash other marketing icons. FoamingPanda

Oh you mean like pikmin?

I like it but it becomes boring very fast. Not enough moves and depth to the series. I'm a Tekken and Street fighter fan but i need depth and smash bro's is too easy to master

lol, knowing all the moves isn't mastering smash, esp. with wavedashing, shuffling, etc factored in.  Do you actually think beating a lvl 9 is mastering or something?

Heresy! WHO doesn't like SSB?  I can understand not liking the first one, as it was meh (I loved it, but it was a little bland...) but Melee was PERFECTION!

I guess if you prefer more "traditional" fighting games like Tekken, VF, Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, etc. you could dislike SSB... or if you didn't like fighters at all...

I hate playing the computer. Its not at all like playing a real person. I hope the AI is better in the SSBB.
