So why can't 3DS have a touch screen analog stick?

As the owner of an iphone i've used the touch screen analog stick for games. Its trash but ill admit it does work. So i ask this out of all the talk of 3DS 2nd analog stick.

Why not just use one of these?

Its an analog addon for the ipad. Granted the design will need to change for 3DS.

But C'mon

WTF!?

The above image looks like an even worse disaster than what the attachment already is.

Also, as usual, Nintendo opted for the cheaper resistive touchscreen (although it is a bit more precise, and, considering the screen size, you couldn't use a finger on it anyway).

Mario 64 DS let you use your thumb on the touch screen as an analogue stick. The d-pad was more optimal though.

Actually, Mario64 DS was designed for the thumb-pad that came with the first iteration of the DS. The same control scheme was implemented by Rayman DS and a few others. It kinda worked with the thumb pad, but using only your thumb on the DS' touch screen is really not confortable.

Are you serious? A touch screen not big enough for your finger? Ok....

Plz people any of you got a 3DS hold it how you would. Tell me how hard an analog would be to use at the bottom right of the touch screen.

The 3DS touch screen is vastly inferior to an iPad's touch sensors and wouldn't have near the same sensitivity or accuracy, plus it's proven that physical feedback = epic win and touch controls are still so much in their infancy that I doubt someone like Nintendo would want to risk the comeback of their platform on an uncertain control method.

Kinect disillusioned much of the 360's original fanbase aka the people on this board. It's kind of like the Wii right now but I'm sure its just a phase :P

Because it only works with a pen. You cant use your thumbs. With the pen in your hand you cant use the face buttons. They should have put another analog stick in.

You mean a annolge stick 'ingame' located in the touchscreen? I believe it's up to developers to do that. Who knows...maybe they never thought of it.

Before I sold my ds I dont remember being able to use my thumbs like an iphone or ipad. It would make it look like theres was multiple pens pointing at different areas when I used my thumb. I dont have a 3ds though but I thought 3ds had the same touch screen ds has.

Its pressure sensitive. I'm sure It can use the same controls as an iPhone as an onscreen analog, but it cannot use one of those analogs like the TC provided.

I don't have a 3DS, but just using a finger or thumb to do things on the DS touchscreen works fine. I'd assume the 3DS works the same way, but I'm no expert on that.

No matter what Nintendo does, they're going to get chastised because the 3DS should have had a second analog stick from the very start.

Here's a Video of Me using the Touch Screen as a 2nd Analog.

I think a Touch Screen Analog Stick would improve it vastly.

Putting a stick on the touch wouldn't work at all. For one, it's a tiny screen and if they're going to use the touchscreen then that's restricting a lot of screen space. And those stick attachments are all terrible.
