I read somewhere that theytrying to work outsomethign with MS, but there wont be any user made mods.
It's probably because of no standard HDD rather than the online service. Maybe both, but no HDD hurts mods.NobuoMusicMaker
nah, i'm sure thats not the concern of Epic, since whenever you talked about downloadable contents, its assumed that you have an HDD to begin with.
i think the problem is M$ is too cheap to let you use mod so it won't destroy their Windows game market.
They discussed this in the 1up podcast recently and they explained that MS did not want inappropriate mods on the 360. The pc allows the user to do whatever they want and doing so on the 360 would mean letting possibly offensive content on the system. The last thing they want is some porno level placed on the 360 for download. The press would have a field day. They also explained that if you think Sony is going to let anything old mod show up on their system without it being viewed first, then you are crazy.
I think MS should allow the mods but they also need a ratings body that will deem what is and what isn't appropriate.
So to answer your question the answer is no. Keep in mind online is more than mod content. It's the entire package and the psn isn't even close at this time.

of course i know Sony will somehow modifiy the mods (if that makes any sense to you) before they release it to the public, but at least they are letting you do it. and on the 360 side, Epic had said that M$ declined to let them use mods, i mean just plain no even though its not pronographic or what not.
and to your other point, i think Sony is releasing some kinda downloadable movie service soon for PS 3 and PSP?

Actually they never said if sony would review the mods or not(even though we all know they will to protect the company name).
MS hadn't said one way or another if they were not going to allow the game to have it. The issue becomes once you let 1 company do it you have to do it for everyone and that means more man power in screening when right now they only screen xbox live content (the ESRB helps with the important stuff) and lives screening and approval process is no joke so imagine adding mods to the equation. I give sony credit for going down this path with 2 possible media headaches, Home with the possibly of porn in peoples apt (I find that funny though it is still wrong) and now mods.

LMAO!sharing porn...its inevitable and cant be helped..someone is bound 2 do it!
I bet the problem roots from Epic wanting mods to be on both consoles but Microsoft probably wanted some way to microtransaction the hell out of it.
Sounds like something they would do.

Not really. You should listen to the last 1up podcast as they discussed this and said pretty much what I said. They did not say anything about MT.

The 1up podcast isn't an infallible source of information, even so did anyone bring up the prospect of Microsoft charging for mods? Like they did for the maps Epic wanted to be free for Gears basically [Which annoys me to no end] - That's the only reason I've come to this conclusion.
Microsoft is bat**** insane when it comes to DLC and price.

they did not say it doesn't mean M$ is not trying to do it. plus it just makes perfect sense for them to make it as some kind of microtransaction product, since $$$ is what they are after especially when the Xbox devision has never made a dime in the business.
actually last time i checked it wasn't impossible only something ms didn't want happening....and guess what do you know how many mods suck? 90% of em its rare to find good user made mods....and epic said unreal engine was the most moddable when we all know that crown belongs to source....WilliamRLBaker
Thats pretty much the truth...I honestly do not recall a single good mod for UT2k4...Everyone mods with Source. My guess is that it is more in lines with the map editor and such. That I did see alot of...But to be honest. Again...Even on PC...the vast majority just played normal games and such.
To be frank...Sony paid Epic alot for this. So my guess is they are trying to make it sound more then what it really is. Kind of funny...The ones whying it only care for the fact it is a Timed Consule Exculsive. All the people who care for the game more...Seem to just be upgrading thier PCs and getting ready to play it there.
this is based on what Epic said when they made UT 3 exclusive to PS3 and PC.
so XBL > PSN anymore?
Game13a13y
PSN Also Gets Dedicated Servers, which Removes Lags, Discoonections, Massive reduction to Latency and more stuf ;p
PSN lets u download mods ;p
PSN is free
Yeah, i think PSN is much more better :p
I think it really depends on the game and if the developers want to do it. We've already seen mods for Timesplitters on Live. The mod making was inside the Xbox community though not imported from a PC. Personally, a couple of people on here are right, the vast majority of mods are garbage whther its the tool set or the creators imagination. The good thing is that once an addition gets made that is good, everyone plays it.
Personally, I am not sure mods in the console world are that big of a deal.It also allows for God knows what to get in the network and if I was MS, I am not sure that is a risk I would want to take. Like someone said above, someone is going to have to go through these maps, check to make sure they are kosher, then they would have to ranked and stored somewhere so everyone could get them.
Not hating, just don't think this is as anything more than a niche thing. If I amwrong and it actually turns out to be huge, then a bad prediction on my part but great for gamers. I can live with that.
I think it has more to do with PS3s open source Linux based OS than the way their Online networks handle data. A mod is just a file, so why wouldn't XBL be able to handle it?Darthmatt
It's not a matter of it running on XBL, it's a matter of is MS would like to charge you for that content.

I think it really depends on what type of mods you will be seeing for the PS3 version, if they are not very good ones then I dont think it matters but if they seem to be up on par with the PC Mods then the Ps3 definatly finally has something the 360 doesnt have on xbl.
It doesn't matter to me, Modding isn't something that really interests me. braydee1234
i could of guessed this statment would surface. Funny, lemmings care alot for that awesome exclusive, add-on content on GTA but could care less about mods. I know I would be more excited about the Rockstar scraps MS paid for than mods made pruposely by the devs becuase they thought it was needed.
good post. but one question for MS, when have we ever seen pron mods for any of the UT or HL series. They discussed this in the 1up podcast recently and they explained that MS did not want inappropriate mods on the 360. More than likely MS doesn't want to lose a piece of that pie so why would they allow people to download something for free? We've seen it time and time again that MS wants to charge and control everything that comes through live.....PSN seems to be more flexible in that sense as they have shown they care less about money. I do believe PSN is going to need to monitor the situation though because user made mods.....why do I get the feeling we'll have naked ladies with guns not to long after launch lol.
