I would feel pretty dumb and taken advantage of if i spent $400 on the gears 3 xbox bundle only to have the xbox720 come out just a year later. MS needs to either announce a neq system so people wont waste money on an old one or give a timeline of when it will come out
I'm buying the bundle regardless even though I am over 100% sure that the new 360 is NOT coming in 2012. Besides, my 360 is pretty much dying on me and definitely doesn't have more then a few months left (It's loud as heck and my warranty has been up for awhile now). I'm thinking new xbox in late 2013 and I probably won't buy the new one anyways until 2015 (maybe 2014ish if it has a great line up of games). So I'll get around 3-4 years out of a 270 dollar value (taking off the cost of Gears since I was going to buy it anyways and also the money I make from my old console).
There will be a price drop in a few months, just in time for the holidays. If it isn't an official price drop, there will be bundles and reduced prices for sure--late november. Just wait till then. Plus, the Xbox720 is just going to be a $450 webcam.
EDIT: Also, to all those saying they aren't going to release a console anytime soon: Do you all understand that announcing a new console would maybe decrease current gen hardware sales?
If Microsoft wants another RROD fiasco, then they'll release in 2012. Both Sony and MS have alraedy said they don't plan on releasing a new console soon.
Considering I'm questioning whether the Wii-U is going to launch in 2012, I think it is safe to say that it will be 2013 or maybe (though it would be pushing it) even 2014 before the next Xbox and Playstation come along.
The new generation doesn't mean this generation is over. This generation will trot along for a couple extra enjoyable years, following the new generation's commencement. That's what I plan to do anyway, then I'll have plenty of new games to play once I buy a next gen console.
I dont' see the reason you people keep calling the next Xbox console the Xbox 720. The current Xbox 360 can play games at 720p look at Gears 3. Next gen consoles are going to play games at 1080p standard and maybe some games higher. :P
