Welcome to Batman: Arkham City, also known as drm the game.

Game uses Steamworks, Securom, and Games for Windows Live.

So I'm installing the game and I get the Securom pop up that tells me to input my cdkey. Then the game tells me I'm only allowed to install the game I own five times and that I only have four installs remaining. Well this is complete bs and I haven't seen many games using this system since Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Spore. And lets not forget to mention that Securom apparently can be damaging to your computer.

Next enter Steamworks. Steamworks isn't a big problem for me since I already use Steam anyway but why have Securom on a game that uses steamworks when I can't play the game without being signed into my Steam account.

Then we have the hated Games for Windows Live. I don't like GFWL so I immediately tried to skip the step but the game made me activate the game on gfwl also even though the game requires I have steam. So I signed into my profile and set the game to not automatically sign in and then I got a warning telling me that without signing into games for windows live, my game would be unable to save. That's complete bull ****.

So now I have three drm systems just messing up the game experience before I even begin to play. Well I guess this drm is needed to prevent pirates from playing, I mean there is no way pirates would be able to get around these systems.

I guess I won't be buying the game unless it appears on GOG with all its DRM free goodness.

LMFAO, that's awesome.

How utterly redundant... Or is it 3x the security for 3x less fun? Who knows?

Wow, now I feel kind of glad I didn't get the PC version. That is terrible, all three of those things? And I thought it was bad enough GTA IV used Windows Live. Yeesh.

See!? See!? This is one of the reasonswhy thePC is not my primary game system anymore even though it's a powerfuli7 2600k / GTX 580 system. I hate DRM that requires you to be online to save your game, I hate DRM that requires you to be online to play even the single player off-line story, I hate DRM that limits how many times you can reinstall a game, and I hate Securom based on the bad stuff I read about it. However, I don't mind DRM that is just a code fora freeonline pass to play multiplayer online like they do now in console games if bought new and I don't mind being required to have the disk in the drive as a DRM like console games.

Then you're likely SOL. This is why I prefer that Steamworks be the go-to option for DRM. It, at the very least, allows one to play games offline.

Thanks for making gaming a worse place, and contributing to the increasing paranoia and security measures publishers use.

I'm not going to say piracy is worse then stealing or whatever like those dumb commercials, but flaunting it and doing it without care is a great way to prove you are cheap and selfish and just do not care for the games industry.

PC isn't my primary gaming system either, but for a variety of reasons, not just DRM. Saying the DRM that encompasses a portion of games is your one reason is a little overkill, unless you exclusively happen to play only Ubisoft games.

DRM can be a contributing factor alongside exclusives you don't care for and an extra level of bugginess or compatibility issues (my main reasons), but DRM as the only reason?

Well if its that bad dont play it. Plus you should have done some research before buying the game, im sure there were many online sites reporting about this. Its your own fault, you knew what was coming.

I'm not specifically referring to this game but DRM in games in general. I bought alot of games that used DRM that I don't like such as ACII, Splinter Cell Conviction, games that use Games for Windows DRM thatrequire you to be online to be able to save your progress, Sims 3, BF3, and more.

Yeah, I bought this game off greenman and the DRM on it is absolutely ridiculous, the always online crap really sealed the deal on my hatred towards their DRM. As soon as a cracked .exe or something to break the DRM comes out I will be using it pronto. I'm betting it's already out but I haven't really researched it. DRM does little but promote piracy, and it definitely pisses legit buyers, such as myself, off.

I hope so too. I also wish that a major company would experiment around with GOG by releasing a major, new release on there to see if it will do well, as GOG is 100% DRM free. When that happens, PC gamers will have to band together and put their wallet where their mouth is.

Thank dumb developers and publishers for that. I can't even blame people for piracy in some cases, when the legal version is so full of DRM crap to a point where it becomes unbearable. Hell, I even know people who first bought a LEGAL copy of a game, and then pirated it anyway because they didn't want to have to cope with all the DRM annoyances.

Yeah it sucks, too bad, the PC version definitely needs to be rated lower because of these things. This is one of or could be my favourite game of the year but such things are very hard to overlook. It's as though they are begging you to pirate it.

And then developers like Ubisoft claim they don't want to port or make games for the PC because piracy is running rampant on out platform while the 360, Wii and handhelds have worst piracy problems.

I'm pretty sure it worked with any DD service that is selling the game.

Slightly? Surely the difference between the PC version and the 360/PS3 version is equivalent to that of between the 360/PS3 and the Wii which 360/PS3 gamers like to flaunt so much.

I had similar problems with Dirt 3, in which there was actually a bug in the game which for some reason meant that the game recognized my GFWL account as invalid, even though it clearly wasn't since I was able to use all my other GFWL games, and that of course meant that I couldn't save my game, which was just complete crap. Frankly, I got so used to it that I stopped really caring about the whole thing. It just seems par for the course for PC games to have some kind of draconian DRM nowadays, I simply stopped worrying about it.

[QUOTE="drinkerofjuice"][QUOTE="BPoole96"]I could get it for the PS3 but I was really hoping to play it on my PC since the PC version looks sexyHexagon_777
You have a choice between slightly better visuals and an uninterrupted experience. The latter sounds like a much better deal.

Slightly? Surely the difference between the PC version and the 360/PS3 version is equivalent to that of between the 360/PS3 and the Wii which 360/PS3 gamers like to flaunt so much.

Yeah...no. PhysX and tessellation don't add that much to the game if video footage is of any implication. It'll look better, but you'd be fooling yourself if you think it's to that extent.

[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"][QUOTE="Kiro0"]Well hopefully all the DRM will kill a few sales and move us a little closer to something like this.

TheShadowLord07

I hope so too. I also wish that a major company would experiment around with GOG by releasing a major, new release on there to see if it will do well, as GOG is 100% DRM free. When that happens, PC gamers will have to band together and put their wallet where their mouth is.

um you're thinking of direct 2 drive not gog

Wat, D2D allows DRM, GOG doesn't.

No, I've bought a decent amount of games off D2D, they all have their native Steam DRM still.

That is unreal. At that point I would pirate the stupid game. Is it at all possible that some of the pirated copies were actually people who payed for the game but decided they could get a better DRM free copy?

Seriously, Steam is enough. Pirates will find a way. How about you stop trying to piss them off and just put your games out there. Don't punish the legitimate gamers, it just makes more pirates. I doubt people would steal music as much as they do if iTunes wasn't so unbelievable.

Funny thing is, if you have a genuine copy there are ways to circumvent all this DRM. Even with this multiple DRM nonsense it's still the vastly superior version, that's not even counting DX11 and tesselation. 1600p, max settings, bliss :)
