The PC is in the console war. It is a console in my views as much as the Ps3 or 360.

I myself have a gaming PC, along w/ all 3 of the next-gen consoles. I keep my PC updated, usually two updates yearly ~$500, and I don't regret it or claim PC gaming is expansive.

But in terms of the console wars, I often hear that the PC has the best version of multiplat games, and that is the case for me, and many System Warriors. But then when PS3/Wii/360 owners claim that PC gaming is expansive, we say no it isin't you can play the latest games with a two year old pc (which you may be able to play on medium settings at good framerate.).

Pc gaming does cost more if you want the BETTER game. No denying this, so fanboys don't.

SO I ask fellow Manticores and Hermits. What do we choose. Best Versions of Games but also Most expansive, or Competetivly priced and inferior multiplats (inferior compared to PS3/360, as in for example COD4 on Medium settings on PC at a steady framerate ~30FPS, vs. PS3/360 versions at 60FPS and its optimal settings...probably around high-max on the PC, more towards high settings).

So which one gamers?

Best Multiplats and Most exansive (latest games on very high-max) $1,500+

or

Inferior Multiplats and Less expansive (latest games on medium) ~$900

way to misundrestand.

I'm asking, how do we count the PC, do we count it as Very Expansive and Best Gaming Experience or Cheaper (not much more expanisve then consoles) and inferior game experiences.

Its unfair to say for example that COD4 = best experience on PC, and then say you can get a good gaming PC for $800. Because w/ a PC for $800 you'll have a hard time playing COD4 on even medium settings.

iam pretty sure you could buy a 800$ pc that can handle COD4 on medium settings, especially with the 8800GT coming out, it would probly run it on high.

I doubt you can make an $800 PC, to run COD4 on HIGH settings. Remember we're not talking about upgrading, but building a full PC, Motherboard to the keyboard and mouse.

Actually CoD4 is very easy to max out. The only game you couldnt max out on a $800 PC is Crysis. Unless you mean including a new monitor and case etc in the $800 budget. Then it might be sqeezing it for a few games like UT3/crysis/FSX etc.

By full PC I mean, Motherboard, CPU, GPU, Case, RAM, Power Supply, M+K, Hard-Drive, CD/DVD Drive. No Monitor since we don't count TV's part of a consoles price.

could shave off that $21 if I went with an AMD CPU, but I figured it was close enough.

Edit: whoops, apparently that 8800GT is out of stock atm.

hm, forgot the OS, (as usual since I always reuse my OS's :P)

the c2d is fine. And if you want some extra juice it will easily go to 2.5ghz on stock cooling no increase in volts, and 2.8ghz with a nice cooler and no extra volts.

however... this needs some shaving. What OS? vista or XP?

hm, well I could do it if I could find a 8800GT 256mb($200), or if I dumped the 8800 and went with a x1950xt or something. Oh well.

Edit: its updated anyhow. Went with a 65nm 5000+ and a am2/am2+ mobo so it could be used for AMD's Phenom CPU whenever it comes out.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4208569

EDIT2: also video card prices could be crashing even more in a few weeks since AMD and nVidia are releasing new cards.

EDIT3: nice thing about the 8800GT though is you get just a tad less (5%ish) the power of a 8800GTX for a little more than half the price.

So which one gamers?

Best Multiplats and Most exansive (latest games on very high-max) $1,500+

or

Inferior Multiplats and Less expansive (latest games on medium) ~$900

-D3MO-

Neither really, PC's are what you want them to be. To run ALL games better than 360 you need a fairly decent PC, but nothing out of the ordinary still, 360 only plays most games at 1280x720(not sure about CoD4), most PC gamers use higher resolutions, even my weak x1950pro can run most games on high using that res. Also many games are better than on consoles even with a crappy PC, for e.g. CnC3 wasn't all that impressive on the 360, and Prey looked better on my old 6600GT than on 360, tho not sure whether it was a port or a multiplat. Anyway, saying it has either inferior or superior multiplats based on graphics is just plain wrong, each multiplat is different, many can be played on the same visual level as consoles have even on mid-range rigs. Secondly visuals are only one part of the game, even if in some games the 360/PS3 would have better visuals it still leaves other things to consider. Like the (lag)free online, option to use any controller, mods, cheaper price.

Anyway, I think it should be counted as the most expensive system, but not as a 1.5K system, that's too expensive, running games on high at a decent res and fps is more like $800 for the whole thing. Ther reasons we shouldn't use a PC that can max out every game as an example is that they might not even exist at the time the game is released. It doesn't always automatically have the best multiplats either, just like a cheaper PC doesn't always automatically have inferior multiplats.

really no monitor? Hmm, I got a 1200 pc then not counting the monitor, and I also got some of the more expensive parts. 2900xt being one of them. Hmm, I think someone could build a $800 one seeing as the new 8800GT is supposed to be $250

PC is the best for over all quality, my PC is more powerful than any of the consoles on the market right now. But not all the games I'm interested in are on PC.

Like I'm sure Mass Effect, Fable 2, Gears of War 2 etc will be ported to the PC eventually. But I don't want to wait, I hate having to wait when something is available elsewhere.

Also I wouldn't be able to play Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy, Infinite Undiscovery, White Knight Story, Cry On, Ninja Gaiden, God of War, Forza Motorsport, Grand Turismo, Grand Theft Auto 4 etc. I love action games and JRPGs, those are two genres the PC lacks. But the RTS, FPS, Western RPGs (Even if it's released late), MMORPGs are all best on PC.

Seems like PC is getting some crap exclusives so I would choose a console anyway. The graphical difference between a console and a PC at the moment isn't that big either.

Then we should also count the full price. If you can build a $600 PC that runs games as good as consoles, then you can't say that PC has better graphics.

We count it at is full potential, as is done with all platforms.

Drathyl

Then we should also count the full price. If you can build a $600 PC that runs games as good as consoles, then you can't say that PC has better graphics.

You can build a PC for around $800 that will surpass a console in every way.. Not to mention it can do things other then play games, sorry alot of people arn't 12 year olds that just play video games.. Some of us need it for school/College, work, media, etc etc.

Fine by me. here in the UK my PC that runs Crysis on Very High and slaughters everything else ... costs less than the 3 consoles combined , I suppose US is the exception to that rule though.

So which one gamers?

Best Multiplats and Most exansive (latest games on very high-max) $1,500+

or

Inferior Multiplats and Less expansive (latest games on medium) ~$900

-D3MO-

$900 on consoles, thanks for playing.

AMD Athlon-64X2 6000+ CPU
Nvidia Chipset DDR2 PCI-Express MB
2GB DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory
320GB 7200 rpm SATA-2 HDD
18x Double Layer DVD+/-RW
2x NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512MB 16x PCI-Express Video
