I'm not sure what he's trying to say. Is he speaking only for consoles, maybe?

Why would F2P be difficult to handle in the long run? If anything LoL, HoN and Tribes only turn a profit "in the long run" :?

And WTF expanding shooters? He's gone completely bonkers. Shooters haven't ever stagnated as much as they have done in the past years.

considering current trends they are going to grow and core is inevitably going to shrink as it becomes less profitable.Thats the way of the world, the same happened in hollywood and the same happeend in the record industry.

Whateve is the trend will call the shots and whats not will shrink or become a bit more obscure and off the fringe, we see it continually more and more developers embracing the F2P trend because its highly profitable and its cheap in areas.

Gamers will one day get sick of F2P and casual (Social) crap. It's just because they are rubbish and lacks quality and immersion.

I feel that Sony may not want to chase the casuals for more money. They are probably keeping the loyalty to their fans, and are happy to leave Microsoft and Nintendo doing their terrible business practices while Sony is doing things differently to please real gamers.

thats what people want, we are primarily a species that moves around a lot and this is why casual gaming have become a phenomenal sucess. We use them for time wasters and thats all games are really if you think about it.This is why casual games and mobile gaming are becoming a powerful player in the industry right now i mean cmon UE3 got ported to iOS which is an indicator is a pretty big maket.

Sony have already forayed into the casual market with singstar and buzz, theres no such thing as loyalty to fans for any corporation even sony despite your own beliefs look at move that was an attemt at capturing a slice of Wii pie.

They are only going to grow, there is no denying that.

Especially F2P MMOs. A paid subscription model quickly becoming redundant.

That said core games are not going anywhere. More causal players means more future core players.

The casual market is only bigger because there are more casual gamers than real gamers. Young to mid-age people with gaming as their main hobby are "real gamers". They wouldn't play crap games while waving the Wiimote all over the place or jumping about everywhere to control Kinect. They want good games, sit down on a chair and have a controller in their hands and have fun. That's what I like.

There has to be a place for real gamers. Otherwise that's just plain insulting. The PC and Sony seems to be only places for real gamers, and I hope they will stick with that.

If the casual market takes over everything, then I will have to find a new hobby because they are not "games" to me.

i dont see gaming as a hobby, yet i play what you consider serious games, i also play things like kinect and the wii aswell cause you know i just enjoy playing games having a bit of fun and burning a couple hours.

There is no such thing as real gamers either, its a little falacy people like you have made up to feel appreciated in a market that isnt suiting your needs.Might i remind you the 2 platforms you praise for "core" gaming also have their fair share of casuals like the other platforms, the 360 has probably the same amount of core games as PS3 to be brutally honest.

The Wii however is debatable as theres a few obscure gems on that system.

Yes, there's a thing as "real gamers". It's because you just don't understand it. In your post here, I've found out that you're not a real gamer because you're only playing games to burn some time and play on gimmicks such as Kinect. Real gamers are the guys who dislike those gimmicks and likes good games such as Uncharted, Halo, Gears of War, God of War, GTA, Gran Turismo, Crackdown, Motorstorm, Killzone, etc. Real gamers DO exist. You've got to understand it before speaking garbage.

I know that 2012 is kind of sucks for gaming, but the PS3 is getting Sky 4 and LBP Karting, and the Xbox 360 is getting Halo 4.

2013 is looking really good for PS3. THE LAST OF US!!! GOD OF WAR: ASCENSION!!! I'm sure there are games I'm missing...

We are in the recession, so things are expected to screw up and game libraries for consoles and PC gets dull. People aren't spending as much as before, so game devs don't want to pump out too much. Welcome to the real world. Just bare with it while it lasts.

GamerwillzPS

i dont see gaming as a hobby, yet i play what you consider serious games, i also play things like kinect and the wii aswell cause you know i just enjoy playing games having a bit of fun and burning a couple hours.

If the Xbox 360 has the same amount of core games as the PS3, then why is Microsoft forcing Kinect on all of their games? Why are they milking existing IPs instead of creating new ones? Why do their E3s always suck with no new games to demonstrate? All they were showing are gimmicks such as stupid "apps" and Kinect.

Sure theres kinect integration into forza, but you dont need it.Its on a dev by dev basis if they want to implement Kinect and i dont see MS forcing it anywhere :S i wouldnt say bi-yearly releases is milking considering Sony do the same with Resistance,Killzone and Uncharted over the space of this gen. Also the fact Forza horizon (personally looking forward to it more than any other game this year) was enough for me.

Sure there was apps, but Sony was no better with crap like wonderbook this year at E3 all of the big 3 have been terrrible.

The library of Xbox 360 exclusives I have is very small compared with PS3. Therefore I consider Xbox 360 a casual console. All the games outside my library are garbage.

Thats your personal taste, you are trying to say that when it does not suit your personal taste means the console is casual and shows yet again how much diahorrea you are spouting yet again.Considering the 360 shares a majority of its library with the PS3 would that not mean the PS3 is a casual console aswell?

Yes, there's a thing as "real gamers". It's because you just don't understand it. Im not speaking garbage, i dont see how one's taste reflects them being a real gamer. This is like saying you only truely listen to music if you stick to certain genre's which isnt the truth the same can be applied to gaming. You play games and you play what you enjoy and in the end thaats all that matters is the fact your having fun who cares if someones playing Angry birds if it entertains them they still are a gaming sure they have a taste that is not the same, doesnt mean they are any less of a gamer really.

Im not speaking garbage, i dont see how one's taste reflects them being a real gamer. This is like saying you only truely listen to music if you stick to certain genre's which isnt the truth the same can be applied to gaming. You play games and you play what you enjoy and in the end thaats all that matters is the fact your having fun who cares if someones playing Angry birds if it entertains them they still are a gaming sure they have a taste that is not the same, doesnt mean they are any less of a gamer really.

and yet cows call PC gamers elitists :P

Well, I sure hope it doesn't turn up that way.

If it does, well I guess core gamers will get used to it. :(
