(I'm not that interested in it, but for those who are) The Wall Street Journal via VG247 report that SOCOM 4 will be out in April.
Presumably late April, since Motorstorm: Apocalypse is due out on the 12th the same month in North America.

Wow, Sony is ripping gamers off.
For putting out all these exclusives:cry:
In System Wars, any high(er) profile exclusive release is great bait for a classic console argument. Welcome to GameSpot! Oh, and my opinion, this is terrible. They should do it a month where they already aren't releasing another high(er) profile exclusive. But at least gamers can play it earlier. And why is this in System Wars?

I love the first 3 Socom games.Once I played the last ps3 one I knew socom was finished :( Yeah, but that wasn't made by the Socom 1-3 team, so I wasn't really expecting greatness from that. Socom 4 has the original developers of socom.

Last GOOD socom was 3 on the ps2.Sp4rtan_3I thought SOCOM 3 was poor. The maps were too big, the vehicles were horrendous, and the hit detection was way off. I know Confrontation isn't overly great but I thought it was better than 3 because it didn't have those problems. Sure, it had its own set of problems at launch but it was distinctly SOCOM in its design. Zipper tried to do too much with 3, which is why a great deal of the community went back to 2. The first one is still my overall favourite.

At least you could somewhat trust the original developers.Sp4rtan_3

The main problem I had with the map size was when both teams were down to one or 2 players, it was frustrating trying to find people. It was annoying when you were alive, and even worse when you were dead and had to watch. I haven't seen anything on SOCOM 4 since last year sometime, and it looked part SOCOM, part cover shooter, which was dissapointing. I think it was from the single player though, so there's still hope. Plus I still haven't forgiven Zipper for ruining my favourite map from the series :P

Nobody judges Zelda games because of the horrific CD-i games for example...Sp4rtan_3

Yeah, I'm curious if cover will be in MP. A lot of people are asking to not implement in and keep the lean. I'm not to sure how much does Zipper listen to their fans, but if you go to their forums, that's all people talk about and regeneration health.Luxen90I'll remain optimistic but try not to get my hopes up too much. A cover system in MP would be bad enough but regenerating health aswell would be terrible.

Cracks me up, when Socom 2 came out, everyone said it sucked and 1 was better, Socom 3 comes out everyone said it sucks and 2 was better, when Socom 4 comes out everyone will say the say that confrontation was better lol. I've loved every Socom I'ved played, I just don't hold on to nostalgic feelings like Hard core Socom fans do, but I promise you this, Confrontation will be the last actuall feeling Socom game. I'm very skeptical about the route Zipper is taking with this one. Also I've been playing Confrontation now for about 2 years with some pauses cause of new game releases but I always go right back to it.

I wonder how much the Move will make the game suck. :PStevo_the_gamerI'm pretty sure Zipper is dedicated to both DS3 and PSMove controls.

Yea, the main issue was infact of the game being launched without content that was posted on the game case lol. But over time they did get it together. I think the worst thing about the game now is that they didn't make medleys of the cold front pak and confrontation maps. But you can play quick matches that will mix the maps. Really gameplay wise its awesome, but implentation of features is the biggest thing wrong with the game.

SOCOM really shines when you have a good team that make plans and execute them with good communication. Its not a Gears or UC2 clone in military clothing its a Tactical shooter that has its own goals and audience. addiing a cover system would drastically change the pacing and allow for run and gunners to overpower the tactics and essentially make it: Gears of war: US marines.

I doubt it would turn into that. The people typically playing Socom online are already Socom fans. They know what it takes to win matches and succeed. Runnin and gunning will get you killed. The cover system would work alot better than the lean system in my opinion. We'll see what happens, regardless of what they do, I'll be getting the game day one.
Introduction of vehicles is what made SOCOM 3 the best SOCOM game yet and that's what Zipper should build on. Oh, and huge maps like SOCOM 3 - really enjoyable!

Last GOOD socom was 3 on the ps2.Sp4rtan_3Ha, what?? 3 was "alright" at best ... introduction of vehicles ruined that game and took the series a couple of steps back. I was one of the rare people that really loved the epicness of 3.
I liked it as well. I also enjoyed Combined Assault despite the crappy coop, black blood, and..."mercenaries." Teen rating...
