my girlfriedns brother wants to get a 360 or ps3 but hes planing to chip it or downgrade it, can some one please be my witness that this is not like the psp and that this is illegal and sony or microsoft will brick and shut down his system? i need witnesses hereserg_15

MS bans you off XBL if the console is modded.The console itself doesnt break, its still usable, but only offline.I'm betting that the guy is trying to chip his console in an attempt to play pirated games, which is pretty sad.

He's referring to the firmware. People downgrade their PSP firmware so they can use homebrew stuff and stolen games.

Yeah tell him there's absolutely nothing he can do like that. Not only is there nothing, the systems are both well integrated online and would just be bricked if he got caught,

Same here.

My whole friends list had chipped consoles (near enough) and some of them (4 months later) are only just getting back online because MS basically castrated their consoles (the games would still work and the 360s did too, but they wouldnt work with xbl anymore (with the serial number as well, so once your 360 has been spotted you need another one to play online again)). Just tell him that he will just end up buying another 360, unless he doesnt play online basically.
