Seriously.. How much did GTA sell.. Like 15 Million... right..?

Now if you think about it.. About 10 to 20 people who played video games also did massacres.. (like Cho Sung Hi or that guy from Columbine and stuff)

Now out of 15 million people. and even more if you count in Halo , Doom, Half Life and other shooters.. as well as Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and what not.. only a handful killed people and the rest is potentially dangerous now..?

What kind of logic is that.. ???

Now add all the people drinking alcohol and beating up people, committing crime or what ever and compare it to the people drinking alcohol....

Umm i doubt the ratio will be much lower...

So why do gamers get all that blame and people drinking some beer or wine occasionally get.. what.. nothing...

where is the logic in this world... god..

Jack Tompson...

Thats it.

Seriously, this guy makes anything look bad.  He could make Orange Juice vanish from shelves if he put his mind to it.

its basically because yes violent videogames can be a contributing factor. its just not the main issues, because u also need a weak minded person for this to honestly influence violent behavior, maybe throw in some abuse and other emotional issues and yes u can create a psycho. but ur right videogames dont deserve the heat they get, specifically its not the main reason, all it really is a contributing factor.

Childish logic. Columbine incident was more than enough to censor gaming. When will you gamers talk the responsiblity? That's right majority of you all or at a stage called "self identity vs. the world"

Nope. According to the testimony of all his classmates, dorm mates, family and teachers, he was simply a depressed kid who wrote disturbing plays, took medication and watched Spike TV. No one who knew him mentioned that he was a gamer at all and only described him as a loner who never participated in class and ignored invitations to social venues.

The guy obviously needed professional help. The guy probably had a difficult time letting his anger out. There are some people who just takes in everything and never reacted. Then one day, this person got pushed to the limits and decided to let it all out. But we can't blame everything on videogames. There are certainly other factors behind this tragedy.

okay.. that guy playing a game like counterstrike means as much as that guy drinking a beer occasionally or watching a violent movie from time to times...

Its not like other activities people do can promote anger and violence.. Its just that most of the people learn the ability to endure their anger and act adequately even if they are angry..

I played Doom before.........yet I haven't killed a person to this day. Wow....the columbine shooters needed conseling and psychological help. They were somehow not in touch with reality. They thought that shooting all this people will make all their problems go away.

You might want to box up your PS3 and take it back, then, because I can just about guarantee you there won't be $600 worth of E-rated games for the system.

What makes me angry is that people like Thompson just generalize people. Just because the columbine shooters played videogames, it doesn't necessarily mean that videogames has totally influenced these guys just to go crazy and murder. These shooters just took everything out of context. I remember watching the National Geographic Channel show about Columbine. One of the shooters showed a lot of interest in the concept of natural selection. He even thought of Darwin's work as a brilliant way to eliminate the weak. "Survival of the Fittlest" This guy totally took Darwin's theory out of context. The shooter thought that only the strongest must survive. He thought that WEAK should be eliminated. This proves that there are many factors other that might have influenced their rampage.

Why not?

Let me also state that it seems every hater of Fox News just tends to dislike it by word of mouth, not actually watching it.

Video games don't take over peoples minds. Noone who is sane will play GTA and try to re-enact it by shooting up their school. You have to be naturaly insane and you have to have a motive. Noone would kill someone just because they saw it in a video game. Something has to have happend in your life to push you over the edge.

YES!!! I am. I'm the one blaming video games.

yeah but ur overgeneralizing, with videogames being the main cause for colombine. its a fact that doom doesnt teach how to pull a trigger, and handle recoil. or actually u know use a gun. its a fact those kids use to get made fun of, were outcasts, and were even abused at home. one of them had weapons in his house. so dont say videogames should be held responsible for the actions of a crazy person. where were the parents trying to help out there depressed abused child. u wanna know why me, u and the majority of the gamers on this site havent become killers from playing games, because we have been raised better and know better. Just because a weak minded person can be easily influenced by a source of entertainment, doesnt mean that form of entertainment is bad or even to dangerous. because the fact is it takes many things to create a killer. Mindset, motive, contributing factors(such as abuse, violent images, depression, hatred towards others etc.) its not one thing that makes a killer, its many.

i dont listen to the news anymore; Fox gives more opinionated comments about the morality of others than facts.....and they cant even get their facts straight...

the other new program are almost just as bad

i call it yellow media....like the kind of agenda-based news that was spread during the spanish-american war...

oh, well...what can you do; their ratings are high :(

Fox News isn't real news.

Why not?

Let me also state that it seems every hater of Fox News just tends to dislike it by word of mouth, not actually watching it.

Fox News is laughable. It's so obviously right-wing biased and many of the anchors are ridiculous. Examples of idiocy since you don't need examples to know how biased Fox News is:

I don't care for Fox News and I have watched it. I work for a news station. To be honest I think most news channels and news stations in general are horrible. All of them are biased.

I watch fox news, but only Bill O'reilly and Red Eye mainly because they're people that you love to hate,

So I wait for them to say something that pisses me off.

Video games don't take over peoples minds. Noone who is sane will play GTA and try to re-enact it by shooting up their school. You have to be naturaly insane and you have to have a motive. Noone would kill someone just because they saw it in a video game. Something has to have happend in your life to push you over the edge.jmorey01

So why do gamers get all that blame and people drinking some beer or wine occasionally get.. what.. nothing...

where is the logic in this world... god..

farnham

Its already been confirmed that he was not a gamer.  He downloaded music a lot and chat on forums a lot.

So posting clips that last several seconds proves what again? Anyone can take certain shows in bits and pieces and blow it out of proportion.

Also, what makes you think that left wing bias is not as troublesome and apparent in other media venues?

Look, I'm not going to ignore the fact that Fox News is more conservative than venues like CNN and NBC but to discount them because of their views? That ignorance at best and is what's causing division in America. Instead of taking both sides, you want to rely on one view of one party and preach it as truth. That's as bad as the extreme right wingers believing everything the republican party says.

Oh, and by the way: I'm a republican.

So video games cause people to become killers? Really? So all the mass murders around the world all throughout history were caused by video games? What about the Crusades? Ted Bundy? Charles Manson? Ted "the Unibomber" Kazinsky? John Wayne Gacey? Or my personal favorite..... Jack the Ripper, I'll bet he was playing some cool video games back in the 19th century.

Video games are nothing more than a scapegoat. Just like Heavy Metal was back in the 80's. How many movies have been named in wrongful death suits? Hundreds. Nobody wants to take any personal responsibility for their actions. As others have pointed out, there are millions of gamers all over the world, there have been for over 20 years. If video games are the sole reason for murder, why have'nt we entered the apocalypse???

First off the main error here is the fact that USA allows guns as legal weapons, which is pure nonesense none other than the military should have weapons... And this has nothing to do with games, it is a depression, the guy has probably had bad childhood and probably problems with other ppl around him.

I completely disagree. As I stated in another thread, a homicidial person would still be homicidial even without the presense of guns. This kid planned this attack out to begin with (Evidence being him sending out tapes/letters/audio to NBC). Without guns, he would have just turned to another tool, such as a home made bomb, knives, rope, car, whatever.

One man's use of a gun should never be considered the norm among gun owners. It's a right given to citizens of the US as a precaution measure in case the government turns into a fascist state and it's also a tool for those wanting to protect their family from criminals. While the VTech shooter bought his gun legally, most guns used by criminals are illegally obtained. Taking away guns from law biting citizens only leaves them open to an assault from an armed criminal.

This guy showed evidence of being severely depressed and disturbed long before the shooting. His english papers led his teachers to refer him to counseling. Jack Thompson is desperate.

How about "the pot calling the kettle black"? You're a gamer too, right? Feel like taking responsibility for what a bunch of crazy A-holes do?

YES!!! I am. I'm the one blaming video games.

You might want to box up your PS3 and take it back, then, because I can just about guarantee you there won't be $600 worth of E-rated games for the system.

Not saying that it M rated games should be banned from playing. Just regulate a bit. Is a chainsaw in GeoW really necessary? Is blowing a cow head of in RE4 really important to the game? No, let's clean up gaming a bit.
