Someone stole my PS4 and Switch today. Have you ever had any of your games/systems stolen?

Today was a sad day. Someone broke into my house while I was out for just 20 minutes, and stole my electronics, including my PS4 and Switch. I guess the only silver lining is they didn't take my games. They also took my Wii U and one of my 3DS systems along with other stuff. At the end of the day, it's just a piece of plastic, whatever, but I hope they find the person. We do have video footage from a nearby house. But anyway. Has this ever happened to you, SW? Someone steal your games or system? If not SW related, feel free to lock. But I think it's something people have been affected by/need to be aware of.

Unfortunately the footage I have is just from my neighbor's house, and it shows the guy with my stuff walking through the drive way. He had a hat on.

That sucks man, hopefully all goes well with your insurance. I live in a quiet neighbourhood, so not much happens here. Had someone try to burgle our home in the UK, and they ran into my 200+lb Prison Officer dad, who chased them over the back fence.

Wow, that's fucked up man. Sorry to hear it. I know these things are slim chances, but hope you get your stuff back.

Yeah way back in the day someone kicked my door in for some other shit and just grabbed my PS2 while they were there. Got it back from some dude at the corner store about a week later lol.

If you have the serial numbers, contact Nintendo, Sony, and tell police too. They can track hardware should it ever end up online.

Do what you can change passwords on your accounts and maybe remotely removing any saved payment options if they exist.

I had a former friend of mine steal an Ipod touch 3rd gen 32 GB back when I was in high school, hence why I call him my former friend. Let's just say I was really mad at him for it.

Sorry, man, that's awful. I've had a PSP stolen along with one game (Ridge Racer), but it was a situation where the person lied that he didn't have it. It was just a dumb kid my little brother knew, so I didn't force the issue.

Sorry to hear that.

In 2013 someone kicked my door in while I was at work. They took my PS3, TV, and laptop. I called the cops, but they were unable to help me.

Good thing thieves like that are typically morons. Those were probably the least valuable things they could have stolen. A new PS3 was about $130. The TV was an old plasma, which they probably fucked up when they stole it unless they made sure to keep it upright. The laptop was fucked and only ran Linux.

They seemed to miss my expensive guitars and massive record collection, among other nice things.

Hope they fucking rot like the petty criminals they are. Probably can't even make it as real criminals.

I can gift you a 3DS. 😊

This happened to me. The bastards stole my PS3 unit. They literally just ripped it from the TV taking some and leaving other cables.

Another instance was my roommate was selling my controllers and games.

This is unfortunate to hear and I hope that the authorities can do something to recover what was stolen from you. Fortunately, I never have any of my video game-related good stolen from the many suburbs I lived in my 45 years of life.

@SolidGame_basic: I've had all kinds of shit stolen from me over the years. Every time I say "just let me catch 1 person. They'd pay for every thing that's ever gotten taken". It's a helpless feeling for sure.

Hopefully your video footage has a good enough image for identification and they get caught.

Never had a console stolen. But I did break a few of them due to me being stupid.

The first time was when a 13 inch tv I had on some plastic shelves fell suddenly. I stopped the impact with my foot and saved the tv but it bounced off my foot onto the ps2 and crushed it to death.

Then a year later I had just bought another ps2 from Best Buy for $150.00. I guess I was thirsty or something and placed a glass with a drink in it right next to the ps2 on the carpet. Then I went to get up and as I was exiting the room I knocked the drink over and my second ps2 got wet. After that it was basically a paper weight.

Its a shame it stopped me from playing some good games like Suikoden 5 and others.

@SolidGame_basic: I'm very sorry to hear about your consoles being stolen mate, that's an awful thing to have happen to you. 😞 Hope that the authorities are able to help out, and with some luck you can get them back. If not then there should be some decent prices on the PS4 as we get closer to the PS5 release date.

I guess at the very least the burglar never took anything of sentimental value which couldn't be replaced, such as personal family stuff that you really can't put a price on. I do admire your upbeat attitude given the circumstances, but it's true they are ultimately replaceable in a way which other stuff wouldn't be. I know that doesn't make it any less frustrating of course, and it's easy for me to say that as somebody who isn't in your position now.

It's a relief to hear that they didn't make off with your games collection, so thank goodness for small mercies! If I happen to come across any good deals on the Nintendo Switch I'll be sure to let you know.

Damn man... I feel your pain. Sorry to hear about your loss and your house getting broken into. Possibly look into the camera system for your front porch, etc. (not trying to tell you your business, but just concerned for you so it doesn't happen again)

During my move from CA to IL at the end of my enlistment in the USMC I never received an entire large box full of original Xbox games... must have had 150-200 games in that box... I was pissed to say the least. I learned a valuable lesson though, I will NEVER trust a moving company with my games and or valuables ever again. I'll box those up and take them with me when I move next time.

Nah, that's fucked up man. Worst thing of all is the psychological effect, when you don't feel safe at home. People should stay the hell out of there!

I've been lucky as I never had thieves break into my house. I always thought my PSP or Vita could get stolen, as those were quite expensive, when I had them out in public. But they never did. I still own all my handhelds.

That sucks man. I had a different kind of system stolen before... I had my car broken into and they stole most of my system (subwoofers, amp, and cd deck). I was so pissed. Anyway, to put a SW spin on this... this may be a sign that it is time to switch to PC gaming. ;)

One thing you can do is contact your local pawn shops and give descriptions of each item stolen and have them contact you if your stuff shows up at their store. Some criminals are a little smarter than that and won't go to pawn shops in the town they stole from, so it may be a good idea to reach out to a few in the neighboring areas.

This include GameStops and GameXChanges too.

Went to GameXChange yesterday and they had a break in a week ago, someone came in with a ps4 Pro and needed a power cord, he told the story of how he got the console, bought from a sketchy teen for $35, came in to get a power cord and when the store employees powered on the system it had their stores GameXChange's account on it!

The store was cool about it and let them keep the system, it was actually in their broken system pile in the store

That sucks. Makes you think if it’s someone you know, or a friend of a friend and they knew you had stuff by word of mouth. Or if you had work done in the place, could have tipped someone else. It’s sad, they’re probably desperate for drugs. I hope you get your stuff back and that douche gets a dose of karma.

Damn man, I'm sorry to hear this happening to a fellow gamer, no matter our preference differences. It sounds like they may have been scoping you out for a while to know exactly what you have. Did any of your neighbors get hit as well? I've had thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment stolen from me before, so I know the feeling...

Keep your head up man.

True. The investigators said they would check pawn shops. Honestly, I don't feel good about my chances, but I'm using this as an opportunity to meet my neighbors and let them know what happened. I know what the dude generally looks like, so if I spot him, hopefully we can catch em.

I don't know how he would know.. I think he just saw an opportunity and came in and took whatever he could find in 10 minutes. And he got lucky. I was only out for 20 minutes.. he happened to be around checking.

Update - they caught him!!! they haven't recovered my systems though lol. At least not yet.

Holy shit, nice man. That's pretty rare tbh, usually cops just move on to the next thing with crimes like that.

Hopefully you get your stuff back, but the fact they got him is probably the bigger relief. When your place gets robbed, there's the initial shock and being pissed about what you lost. But the real bummer sinks in when you feel your home isn't safe and secure anymore. So that's gotta give you some peace of mind.

@ConanTheStoner: @Archangel3371: thanks, guys. Yea, I'm really relieved that they caught him. That's the greatest news. Hated having to think he could come back. They said he immediately sold most of my stuff, but they are investigating the two stores he visited.
