So I´m a cow because I loved the ps1 and the ps2, and I´m confident sony will win this gen also, but if I knew that the xbox would be the ultimate winner this gen I would probably have gone with the xbox, I mean I want the best product, screw brand loyalty if it means getting the shaft. Now what I want to say is even if I was 100% sure the wii would win the war I still wouldn´t get one, and this isn´t some 12 year old hate nintendo thing, it´s just not what I´m into, I´m pretty sure most cows and lemmings feel the same. Ultimatly even if the wii wins the war it´ll be off casuals so the wii really can´t "win" this war. Nintendo has failed in my eyes even if they sell a trillion consoles.

why do you hate casuals so much. the ps1 and ps2 won off casuals as well.

we were all casuals or nongamers at one time. so now that you're a gamer you think new ppl shouldn't join your little club?

I hate to break it to you, but casuals make the market. They made the PS2 win and they will make the wii win. They buy the most games and hardware regardless of review scores. Price is what matters most. You will get some who don't care about the price and will get a 360 or PS3, but the majority of them will choose the cheaper option. Hey, you don't like the wii, no problem. I think there are plenty of options on the market today to make everyone happy. :)

Well, I don't usually buy items based on who else has one(though it might be a factor when talking about an online community), or else I wouldn't have gotten a Zune. :?

If it's just not your thing, or your not into it, that's fine, but don't start perpetuating this same elitist bull**** we've been hearing since launch. The fact is that I have fun with it, and if so many "casuals" do as well, what difference does it make?

I´m 100% sure that if I had a wii I would have fun with it, I´m not a machine, the thing is I really can only have one console per gen(money money) and the wii would never do it for me, it just doesn´t have the depth. And com one elitist bs? You can´t see a major diference in style between ps3 360/wii games? There completly diferent.

because at this point and time, the PS3 has just as many MUST HAVE titles as the wii, right? what's driving the wii right now is casuals, there is no way to hide behind that fact. but hardcore games will come this year. in fact after informing my wallet of how much i'll be putting down, it turned around and pimped slapped me. i'm not one for leather beat downs, either. the point is, you should really, REALLY look at the schedule for upcoming wii projects, for this..and the next 4+ years, before calling it a failure.

What I am trying to say in this thread is that we have hermits, cows, lems and sheep, and 3 out of those 4 don´t really care if the wii is the ultimate winner, and if you call youself one by one of these terms it means you take gameing a bit more serious then casuals do, all I´m saying is for most of us that have been around gaming forever the wii is a bit of a disapointment.

I have no reason to lie, the only game on the wii that I would like to play right now is a game that I playd on my ps2, RE4. There are no upcomming games on the wii that make me feel bad not having it, the pc, and the 360 both have games I wish I could play.

It's a viable argument to say that Publishers really jump on anything that's taking off, and Nintendo has publically said that they wanted to make "simpler & smaller" games.

The PS2 has also been out a long time now so it easy to point out key games...And well you yourself may not like the Wii their are games on the system that target everyone and their are a number of great games coming out just like their are number of great games coming out for all the systems.....In the end it does not mater what you think if the Wii sells the most systems then it won just like the Nintendo, SNES, PS1, PS2 and who knows what next right now the 360.

I just dont get the logic. Why won't there be hardcore games on the wii? People have already mentioned the ps2 distinction. Simply, the system with the most users will attract support. This support will inlcude hardcore games. Remember that we were all new gamers once. I think it's stupid to assume that only casuals are buying the wii too. There is a good percentage of hardcore gamers who own wiis. A lot of them aren't very happy right now (including me sort of), but that is quickly changing.

People often portray the wiimote as a device to attract casuals, a gimmick. They said the same thing about the touch screen on the ds. That is just retarded. I guarentee that hardcore gamers are intrigued by the wiimote and motion sensing in general, just as they were with the touch screen. Not all hardcores of course, but then again I'm sure a lot of casuals prefer ps3 and 360 as well (gears of war, halo)

So the promising sales of the wii will not hold it back somehow, as you think. Could it be the horsepower then?Do hardcore games necessarily have to have evolved visuals, physics and AI? Again, you are wrong. Hardcore gamers are much more likely to play games on old systems remember. All those new, pretty visuals are nice, but only a casual would consider it the most important aspect of a game. Remeber that if last gen systems could make hardcore games (going back to the beginning of gaming), then the wii can make hardcore games just as easily. The current library doesn't support the idea of the wii as hardcore so much, but just remember that a system's game library is the one thing that can change over time

Of course it isn't like the Wii... The console has been on the market for a very short time. Unless of course you're saying that the Wii is devoid of Hardcore games... Wich would make me disagree entirely with you.

Quite in fact it could be argued that it may have a bigger or similar quantity to the PS3 list when it comes to hardcore titles and that would certainly be more fair of a comparison, than actually using a console that has been out for what? 7 years?

My point stands, that if you're using a possible Wii victory because of the casuals, than perhaps you should look at the PS2.

Well I guess looking at the current lineup of wii games, the current sales, and nintendo´s current policy(simpler easier games) everything points to a money making console with loads of casual games. You can´t compare the ps2 to the wii, they are completly diferent, you guys are losing it, the ps2came after the ps1, we already knew the type of games it was going to get, and even the ps2didn´t laucnch with all these casual games, don´t kid yourselves, not to mention the technical diferences were minimal.

because at this point and time, the PS3 has just as many MUST HAVE titles as the wii, right? what's driving the wii right now is casuals, there is no way to hide behind that fact. but hardcore games will come this year. in fact after informing my wallet of how much i'll be putting down, it turned around and pimped slapped me. i'm not one for leather beat downs, either. the point is, you should really, REALLY look at the schedule for upcoming wii projects, for this..and the next 4+ years, before calling it a failure.

It's a viable argument to say that Publishers really jump on anything that's taking off, and Nintendo has publically said that they wanted to make "simpler & smaller" games.

at THIS POINT IN TIME. i feel like nintendo is just trying to sell as many consoles as possible, seeing how far this simplistic style can take them, before unloading their real meat and potatoes. you are not going to whitness the gamecube all over again, trust me. too many devs have signed on board, putting in practically nothing in terms of budget, to create a quality wii product.

Saying you'd rather have another console is fine, but to say that a victory doesn't count because it was due to purchases by casuals? That's the elitist attitude I'm talking about.

Well if you're talking about fanboys, then yes, they probably don't care about the wii, but they wounldn't have cared anyway, so if you're trying to validate some point based on the feelings of fanboy, you're out of luck. Personally, I don't consider myself a sheep, lemming, cow, or hermit, I just get what I like, I just happened to like the GC and Wii, I also have a PS2, and plan on getting a 360. Not everyone fits into a fanboy category, in the real world, you'll find that most gamers don't.

sorry, but if your going to include hermits in this 'gen war' then the pc wins easally and all arguments are for second place

but other than that the wii will win and deserves to win

[QUOTE="StealthSting"]If you seriously think PS2 was sucessfull just because of hardcore gamers, then you are seriously deluding yourself.
StealthSting

Ffs I never said that, but the ps2 had plenty of "hardcore" games, I don´t care if a system has causal games as long as I get my share of my type of games. Why do you guys complicate this so much, why do you make it should like the ps2 was just like the wii?

Of course it isn't like the Wii... The console has been on the market for a very short time. Unless of course you're saying that the Wii is devoid of Hardcore games... Wich would make me disagree entirely with you.

Quite in fact it could be argued that it may have a bigger or similar quantity to the PS3 list when it comes to hardcore titles and that would certainly be more fair of a comparison, than actually using a console that has been out for what? 7 years?

My point stands, that if you're using a possible Wii victory because of the casuals, than perhaps you should look at the PS2.

This thread is really about how you win, not why, casuals will always decide the winner, the point is will the wii keep 80/90% of it´s games casual oriented, or will they make it like 50/50, right now it´s pretty much all casual games, and it´s working so I don´t see why they are going to change their game plan.

Well I guess looking at the current lineup of wii games, the current sales, and nintendo´s current policy(simpler easier games) everything points to a money making console with loads of casual games. You can´t compare the ps2 to the wii, they are completly diferent, you guys are losing it, the ps2came after the ps1, we already knew the type of games it was going to get, and even the ps2didn´t laucnch with all these casual games, don´t kid yourselves, not to mention the technical diferences were minimal.Eddie-Vedder
Yes, the wii is a great console to release casual games and make a lot of money. That in NO way prohibits the wii from being a hardcore console btw. In fact, it makes the wii more likely to recieve ALL types of game's as well. Also, looking at sales numbers, the closest thing the wii has to hardcore games are selling extremely well (RE4, Zelda, Super Paper Mario). There are some ports of games that aren't selling well, but who cares about them? Their crappy ports! I want them to fail

You have nothing to back that up. And if you do, you're certainly not using it.

Me having an interest in the console and its upcoming games(Wich is a rather large list by the way) says otherwise...

That's correct. It's theoretically possible for someone to have more fun with Cooking Mama than MGS, making it a better game in their opinion.

Unless you're talking about cost of development?

If so, I'd like to direct you to a few movies.

Primer - 7,000 dollars

Pearl Harbor, Waterworld - A whole LOT of money.

This will probably shock you. But I actually know Hardcore gamers that had more fun playing Wii sports, Guitar Hero, SingStar and DDR than any MGS game they've encountered... Not everybody loves the series for specific and very understandable reasons(Tho I'm not included in that list).

For most elitists, it seems to be the more obscure it is, the better it is.
