Yes I know.... I know..... " not another KZ2 topic " but I found something quite interesting about what one of the developers said about this game, apparently it's using Ray-Tracing,something which I thought no computer or console game would ever be able to use this gen or maybe even next gen.

Here is the link to the source.... http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34201.html

What's Ray-Tracing?Willy105

It's a different method of graphics rendering. What we use in game today is called "Rasterising", which relies on the GPU. Ray tracing relies heavily on the power of the CPU, and can render photorealistic lighting.

To TC: Are they using entirely Ray Tracing? What did the dev said exactly? please.

It's good to see that developers are finally starting to use it.

I don't think he actually means ray-tracing, I'm fairly certain he just got that term confused with Volumetric lighting.

Please...your doubting a developer? A person who actually works on the game?

Well, I don't know. He might have actually meant that, maybe the PS3 has somehow managed to pull off a lighting technique that we're not supposed to see in consumer electronics for 5 years, but I'm just saying that this may just be a mis-term thing.

Well, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue had ray tracing in it. Not very much ray tracing (just in the garage), but it did have it. So I wouldn't doubt that the developers of KZ2 managed to get ray tracing to work.

i saw a youtube video of 3 PS3's pulling it off, now 1 PS3 for a game would be impressive, but I wonder how advanced it is in KZ2.

I think it makes perfect sense, since the highlight of the PS3 is the Cell, and its GPU isn't as powerful, why not take full advantage of the powerful processor.

Well, the trick is getting ray-tracing to work in real-time, at the same time was with moving objects, physics, Ai, etc. I'm fairly certain that that's not something that we're going to be seeing, and if it is, it's not going to be to the sort of detail as in ray-traced art displays, but I'm not the sort who would know. I might be wrong on that.

maybe.. but its definitely not full on ray-tracing to the whole scene, but maybe a mixture of different kind of lighting technique's where one of them is ray-tracing..

Some very complicated lighting mumbo-jumbo.

I'm not exactly sure what all of that is supposed to mean, but it sure sounds awesome.

Well, I don't know.

MetroidPrimePwn

no, bu they probably do. still doesn't mean anything yet.. depends how well it works and what they do with it. but since the GPU on the PS3 is basicly crap, it's almost a MUST.
