that ps2 slowed that gen down. yes it was an excellent console for its software, but as you know, it was quite underpowered compared to GC and Xbox. Yes, it still managed/manages to produce some nice graphics like God of War 2, but still, compared to the competition it was pretty weak. PS2 was the lead console for most multiplats and good games because it sold the most, but that also made the games look worse than they would have on the other consoles, also the multiplats never looked as good as they could have because of the ps2. its not just about looks, but more hardware could have brought some new gameplay elements also like physics and AI and such. When i see a game like GoW2, which uses every last muscle the ps2 has, it makes me wonder what the gc and xbox are really capable of, if developers had focused on them like they did on ps2.

luckily, that isnt the case this gen, because wii is taking a different route and was never meant to be a multiplat console, which means that all three consoles will have every last drop of power squeezed out of them before everything is said and done, unless one of them falls behind. but i think its different this gen, because the consoles themselves are much more different from eachother than they were last gen.

personally im pretty curious about what Wii can really do. RE4 on gc was close to maxing out its potential, but not 100% there, so i wonder what wii can do then.

Im tired about you people talking all about graphics. If you had a game that was as nice to look at as say madden 07 for PS3 and XBOX 360 would u play it if it had gameplay of say madden 2000?

I disagree, they all had exclusive titles that made full use of their hardware and the PS2 was capable enough to stand with the Xbox and GC. Anyway, the Xbox got some mulitplatform games from the PC too, which made the PS2's lower performance irrelevant. If the Dreamcast had stayed in the generation, then yes, I suspect that would have been too underpowered, but the PS2 was definitely not.

I actually agree the ps2 was underpowered and it did notice, 4mb of video ram really handicapped the console and sadly it held it back but on the other hand that has not stopped it from being the only console from last gen I am still playing.  All three of the last gen consoles are showing their age now but there are still games on the PS2 I need to get and some that I am awaiting release for, and when I am playing a game I am enjoying I never stop and look at it thinking 'god this is ugly' because the games look fine, dated maybe but still great.

in my opinion splinter cell chaos theory looks better than ninja gaiden and the game was multiplat and showed xbox power compared to the PS2 and the Cube. Both of the game looks good but i think chaos theory stands out more because it was muliplat while ninja gaiden was an exculsive.,

MGS2 on the PS2 still looks amazing for it's age, and it came out way back near the beginning of the PS2's reign.

Chronicles of Riddick; Escape From butcher Bay was by far the best looking last gen game...
