Sony Acquires BluePoint - Confirmed

I said over a year ago that Bluepoint is a perfect dev for Sony to acquire for the sole purpose of remaking old Sony titles to test the waters and see if people are still interested in the series. If they are, Sony can invest in a sequel or a reboot (and if they are't, a remake is nowhere near as expensive than a brand new title, so they're saving money). That's what i would do if were them.

Honestly, I'd love to see Uncharted Golden Abyss (PSV) remade with modern graphics for PS5. I could easily see Bluepoint pulling that off well. If done, I could finally sell my paperweight of a Vita.

Smart idea. That stated, they have expressed plan to work on original IP. Perfect idea is to let them do both. They can alternate.

Whether acquisitions are good or bad for the industry is another thing. But if you are happy for this, then good for you. Just keep that same energy when Nintendo, Microsoft, Tencent, or another company does it

Im entirely convinced Sony sat on this acquisition for over a month+, for no reason other than "break glass incase the news cycle is talking about Xbox or GamePass (like their numbers shattering a new milestone), and we need an emergency influx of good PlayStation news".

Good developer from what I've seen, at least at doing remakes. I saw this coming last year after Demon's Souls Remake was announced. Hopefully Sony gives them the freedom to make what they want and not just make them do remakes of old games though there a few I'd like to see.

I really wanted them to do a MGS Remake buy it appears they are working on a new IP.

It certainly makes sense given how closely they’ve worked with Sony in the past. A bit odd how it took them this long to announce this officially after that leak though. Anyway I’m interested in seeing what they work on next.

Don't actually see much business sense in acquiring remaster/port studios as it's cheaper to outsource to them without having them on your pay role continuously. It's even more astonishing because they already acquired Nixxes. If I have to guess Sony has a lot of remakes/ports in the road map to make this financial sense.

And one of the shittiest trends in VG in recent years continues, although no one is surprised in the slightest by that one.

You were wrong at assuming that its not coming because the rumor has been running around for a while, but Sony hasn't confirmed it because there's no reason to rush the announcement. Your "Just like they immediately bought Bluepoint, right?" was wrong, very wrong.

Kinda crazy to think Bluepoint is PlayStation's fifth acquisition this year. And that doesn't include the exclusive deals they made with Deviation Games, Firewalk and, Haven.

Although I would love them just to do a new SOCOM game instead (ala S1, S2, or Confrontation) I would also be ok with a remake in the style of what Modern Warfare (2019) did to that franchise. If we get a straight up remaster of the first 3 or whatever that would be cool as well, but my least preferred path for them to take though.

Either way this is awesome news though, Bluepoint is a studio I'm actually interested in. I just hope SONY gives them creative reigns to make new games.

Some of us knew this would happen like a month ago and we discuss this already so hardly a surprised to say the least and BluePoint has always been working with Sony closely for years anyway. Nevertheless congrats is in order.

Oh and I agree with @Telekill on Uncharted: Golden Abyss coming to PS4/5 in some kind of way. It's the only Vita game that's not making me putting the handheld away anytime soon. Can we also get Soul Sacrifice remake port as well?

Basically a given, but still a solid purchase. It'd be nice to see them spread their wings, as opposed to being purchased for turning over older games.

Well get onto Sony & ask if Bluepoint can replace Lucid or at least help them with Twisted Metal before it is a disaster of AllStars proportions..

Or a Warhawk/Starhawk remake, or Socom, Resistance 1-3.

Even better, I would like to see an original game from Bluepoint, which I've heard is what they may be doing.
